Aim: The aim of this study was to assess whether the use of sentinel lymph node (SLN) in addition to lymphadenectomy was associated with survival benefit in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.

Methods: International, multicenter, retrospective study.

Inclusion Criteria: cervical cancer treated between 01/2007 and 12/2016 by surgery only; squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, FIGO 2009 stage IB1-IIA2, negative surgical margins, and laparotomy approach.

Prospective Study of Modifiable Risk Factors of Arterial Hypertension and Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Pediatric Patients on Hemodialysis.

Introduction: Fluid and salt overload in patients on dialysis result in high blood pressure (BP), left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and hemodynamic instability, resulting in cardiovascular morbidity.

Methods: Analysis of 910 pediatric patients on maintenance hemodialysis/hemodiafiltration (HD/HDF), prospectively followed-up with 2758 observations recorded every 6-months in the International Pediatric Hemodialysis Network (IPHN).

Results: Uncontrolled hypertension was present in 55% of observations, with 27% of patients exhibiting persistently elevated predialysis BP.

Objective: To identify all post-BNT162b2 vaccination (BioNTech and Pfizer) events during the ensuing 12 months in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) from the Immuno-Rheumatology Department at Cayetano Heredia Hospital's cohort, Lima, Perú.

Methods: A 12-month follow-up study was conducted from the first dose of immunization with the BNT162b2 vaccine, which was given between May and June 2021, to SLE patients from this cohort.

Results: The initial population was constituted by 100 patients (100 patients received the 1st dose, 90 the 2nd dose, and 85 the 3rd dose of this vaccine); 33 patients presented a SLE reactivation (flare), 9% (9/100) post 1st dose, 26.

Background: The main objective of this study was the validation through the expert judgment of the first Spanish version of the Eppendorf Schizophrenia Inventory (ESI-Sp).

Materials And Methods: A translation and cultural adaptation procedure as a first stage was carried out, which was evaluated by four psychiatrists with clinical experience. In a second stage, we recruited a group of clinical psychiatrists to evaluate the translated instrument by judging the items' clarity and relevance.

Background: International guidelines recommend tailoring the radicality of hysterectomy according to the known preoperative tumor characteristics in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.

Objective: This study aimed to assess whether increased radicality had an effect on 5-year disease-free survival in patients with early-stage cervical cancer undergoing radical hysterectomy. The secondary aims were 5-year overall survival and pattern of recurrence.

Gait speed according to cognitive status in older adults: a cross-sectional study in a resource-limited country.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the association between gait speed and cognitive status in outpatient older adults from a resource-limited setting in Peru.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study including older adults aged ≥60 years attending a geriatrics outpatient clinic between July 2017 and February 2020. Gait speed was measured over a 10-meters distance without considering the first and last meter traveled.

Isolated left ventricular apical hypoplasia: case report.

Background: Isolated left ventricular apical hypoplasia (ILVAH) is a rare, probably congenital, cardiac condition recently reported in the last two decades. Although most cases are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, some severe and fatal cases have been reported, leading to more efforts for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. We describe the first, and severe, case of this pathology in Peru and Latin America.

Identification of Probable sarcopenia based on SARC-F and SARC-CalF in older adults from a low-resource setting.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the frequency of probable sarcopenia and to compare the performance of SARC-F and SARC-CalF for detecting this condition in outpatient older adults from a low-resource setting.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective, cross-sectional study in outpatient older adults aged ≥60 years attending a hospital in Peru, between August 2019 and February 2020. Probable sarcopenia was defined as low handgrip strength (<27 kg in men and <16 in women).

Endoscopic Findings of Gastric Cryptococcosis in an Immunosuppressed Patient.

A 34-year-old man with a recent HIV diagnosis presented to the emergency department with a holocranial headache and skin lesions due to cryptococcosis. He was admitted and during treatment, he presented nausea, persistent vomiting, and epigastric pain. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed multiple round lesions with reddish elevated edges and a pale center in corpus and antrum which were positive for Cryptococcus in pathology analysis.

Self-medication in hospitalized patients with COVID-19: A cross-sectional study in northern Peru.

Introduction: This study aimed to identify factors associated with self-medication in patients with COVID-19.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using medical records of patients with COVID-19 who self-medicated before admission to a hospital in Piura, Peru. Prevalence ratios and 95% confidence intervals were estimated using generalized linear models with Poisson distribution family, log link function, and robust variance.

Side effects and flares risk after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

The objective of this study is to identify post SARS-CoV-2 vaccine BNT162b2 (BioNTech & Pfizer) side effects in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) at the Cayetano Heredia Hospital, Lima, Peru. A descriptive observational study was designed in patients with SLE at the Immuno-Rheumatology Department of the Cayetano Heredia Hospital, Lima, Peru, immunized with the BNT162b2 vaccine from May 21 to June 30, 2021. Of the total number of patients seen in the service, 100 received the vaccine's 1st dose, and 90 patients received the 2nd dose; 90% and 92.

Subretinal abscess due to Candida tropicalis in a patient with acute myeloid leukaemia: case report.

A 54-year-old female patient with a history of acute myeloid leukaemia and receiving maintenance chemotherapy had a systemic relapse. She also had candidaemia caused by Candida tropicalis. Her blood cultures were negative after receiving antifungal treatment.

Histoplasmosis-induced ileal perforation in a patient with acquired immune deficiency syndrome: Case report.

Intestinal involvement with disseminated histoplasmosis is common in some populations infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), especially in those who come from tropical zones. We report the case of a 29-year-old male patient, from a tropical zone, with HIV infection and a CD value less than 50 cells/mm, with a history of abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, and weight loss. On presentation, he was pale, sweaty, and had abdominal rebound tenderness.

However, insidious onset of localized calf pain is an uncommon presentation of embolization and may represent a diagnostic challenge owing to the nonspecific nature of the symptoms. This study reviewed the literature and reports a case of infective endocarditis in a patient who presented with bilateral calf pain as the primary complaint and reason for seeking medical attention.
