The focus of this work is on the characterization of hydrophobically-modified polyethylene glycol hydrogels, to be used as drug delivery systems, by means of the combined used of rheology and low field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. Indeed, these two techniques allowed understanding how the transient physical bonds deriving from hydrophobic association superimpose to the pre-existing covalent bonds. We found that the improvement of physical bonds can be achieved not only by increasing the content of hydrophobic segments but also by using thermal treatments after hydrogel preparation.

Neutropenia complicating anti-CD20 treatment in patients with multiple sclerosis: A retrospective case series and a systematic review of reported cases.

Background: Neutropenia is an infrequent complication of treatment with CD20 depleting agents and may require the administration of granulocyte-colony stimulating factors (G-CSF), which have been associated with an increased relapse risk in patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Methods: Aim of this study is to evaluate the clinical features and the management of neutropenia occurring in anti-CD20 treated PwMS through a single-center case series and a systematic review of the literature, performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.

Rapidly evolving Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in COVID-19: from early status epilepticus to fatal outcome.

We report the case of a 70-year-old man coming to our attention for new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) in a rapidly evolving CJD during SARS-CoV-2 co-infection. Our case report describes a fulminant CJD evolution associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, which led to patient death after 15 days from admission. First EEG presented continuous diffuse spikes, sharp waves and sharp-and-slow wave complexes, pattern consistent with a non-convulsive status epilepticus (NORSE).

A Novel Non-Invasive Thermometer for Continuous Core Body Temperature: Comparison with Tympanic Temperature in an Acute Stroke Clinical Setting.

There is a growing research interest in wireless non-invasive solutions for core temperature estimation and their application in clinical settings. This study aimed to investigate the use of a novel wireless non-invasive heat flux-based thermometer in acute stroke patients admitted to a stroke unit and compare the measurements with the currently used infrared (IR) tympanic temperature readings. The study encompassed 30 acute ischemic stroke patients who underwent continuous measurement (Tcore) with the novel wearable non-invasive CORE device.

What trauma patients need: the European dilemma.

There is a need for implementation and maturation of an inclusive trauma system in every country in Europe, with patient centered care by dedicated surgeons. This process should be initiated by physicians and medical societies, based on the best available evidence, and supported and subsequently funded by the government and healthcare authorities.
