Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing condition that involves the presence of episodic disruptions to the sleeping pattern due to partial or complete airway obstruction. There are a range of treatment options that exist to alleviate the symptoms of this condition including CPAP, mandibular advancement, and maxillary expansion techniques. This systematic review and meta-analysis of published articles aims to determine if rapid maxillary expansion ("RME") is an effective treatment option in the management of OSA, using quantitative parameters of AHI and SpO.

Among the vast array of functional nanoparticles (NPs) under development, nickel tungstate (NiWO) has gained prominence due to its potential applications as a catalyst, sensor, and in the development of supercapacitors. Consequently, new studies on the environmental impact of this material must be conducted to establish a regulatory framework for its management. This work aims to assess the effects of NiWO (NPs) on multiple endpoints (e.

Endocrine disruptors are substances capable of altering the functions of the endocrine system. There is evidence that some pesticides can be endocrine disruptors and, among some of their effects, we find alterations in pubertal development and in the function of the thyroid gland, which could be related to a greater tendency of obesity. The aim was to evaluate the evidence from clinical and preclinical studies on the association between pesticides used in agriculture and found in plant-based foods with overweight/obesity.

The natural products industry is gaining increasing interest, not only due to modern lifestyles becoming more aware of environmental and sustainability issues but also because of the loss of efficacy and undesirable side effects of synthetic ingredients. This pioneering study provides a comprehensive comparison between extracts obtained from wild and commercial samples of Linnaeus, highlighting their multifaceted benefits in cosmetic applications. The antiaging potential of acetone (70 and 90%) and ethanol 60% extracts from wild and commercial samples of , focusing on their application in cosmetics, was explored.

BK hemorrhagic cystitis (BK-HC) is a common complication following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), particularly when posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy) is used as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis. However, comparative studies of BK-HC incidence in matched sibling donors (MSD) and unrelated donors (MUD) often include small haploidentical (HAPLO) donor cohorts and usually lack detailed information on disease evolution, coinfections, management and impact on outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes in patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing HSCT from MSD, MUD, HAPLO donors using PTCy as GVHD prophylaxis.

Wildfires can impact both freshwater and marine ecosystems through post-fire runoff, but its effects on bivalves, particularly those living in marine habitats, remain largely overlooked. While evidence exists that wildfire ash can alter the fatty acid (FA) and sugar profiles of aquatic biota, its influence on the biochemical profiles of bivalves have not been addressed to date. This study aimed to assess the effects of ash exposure on the FA and sugar profiles of two bivalve species used for human consumption: a freshwater clam (Corbicula fluminea) and a marine bivalve (Cerastoderma edule), additionally evaluating potential effects on their nutritional value.

Lasers from the erbium family have been investigated to activate irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), improving the disinfection depth of the dentinal tubules of the root canal walls during root canal treatment. However, the possibility of laser-activated irrigation (LAI) in retro-cavity preparation has not been investigated to the date. The aim of our experimental study is to evaluate the efficacy of NaOCl gel penetration inside the dentinal tubules when activated during retro-cavity preparation, comparing passive ultrasonic activation (PUI) and Er,Cr:YSGG LAI.

In 1999, Goodpasture antigen-binding protein (GPBP) was identified as a protein interacting with the N-terminal region of the human Goodpasture antigen, linked to collagen IV in patients with Goodpasture syndrome, an autoimmune disease. In 2003, a splice variant lacking a serine-rich domain was discovered, which is involved in the cytosolic transport of ceramide, leading to its renaming as Ceramide Transfer Protein (CERT). This dual functionality has sparked debate regarding the roles of GPBP/CERT, as they appear to participate in distinct research fields and are implicated in various pathologies.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death globally. While it is usually diagnosed after years of declining health or after a myocardial infarction (MI), we found that patients can be asymptomatic, posing a latent and life-threatening risk. We present the case of a man less than 40 years old, in whom heart disease was incidentally discovered during a CT scan performed for an unrelated condition.

Background/objectives: Triple-negative breast cancer is difficult to treat due to the absence of hormone receptors and Her2neu. Sacituzumab govitecan is a new therapeutic approach that uses an antibody directed against the Trop-2 antigen present in solid epithelial tumors, linked to the active metabolite SN-38, similar to irinotecan, to specifically target cancer cells while minimizing damage to healthy cells. The objective of the present review was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sacituzumab govitecan as a single treatment in patients with triple-negative breast cancer and to compare its results with the standard conventional chemotherapy regimen currently used in this disease.

The rising resistance of various pathogens and the demand for materials that prevent infections drive the need to develop broad-spectrum antimicrobial membranes capable of combating a range of microorganisms, thereby enhancing safety in biomedical and industrial applications. Herein, we introduce a simple and efficient technique to engineer membranes composed of polylactic acid (PLA) and polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) biopolymers and α-AgWO particles using an electrospinning technique. The corresponding structural, thermal, mechanical, and antimicrobial properties were characterized.
