Patients suffering from major depressive disorder (MDD) display higher rates of comorbidity with personality disorders, often complicating the treatment, and worsening the outcomes. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is the most common of PD and is frequently associated with MDD, with which shares several features.

Uniportal Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery Completion Lobectomy Long after Wedge Resection or Segmentectomy in the Same Lobe: A Bicenter Study.

Measurement of Pressures Generated in Root Canal During Er:YAG Laser-Activated Irrigation.

To measure distribution of pressures along the depth of the root canal during erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser-activated irrigation (LAI) with different modalities and fiber tip (FT) geometries. A new LAI modality based on the delivery of synchronized pairs of Er:YAG laser pulses to generate enhanced irrigant streaming and shock wave emission was recently introduced. However, the influence of FT geometry on efficacy and comparison with single pulse modality is not yet presented.

Background: Role of erythropoietin (EPO) in the treatment of late anemia in patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) is still undefined.

Methods: Fifty CML patients treated at 14 institutions with frontline imatinib for at least 12 months and in stable complete cytogenetic response who developed a late chronic anemia treated with EPO were retrospectively evaluated.

Wire-guided biliary cannulation: a comprehensive approach to a set of techniques.

Biliary cannulation represent a challenge for the endoscopists that approach to endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, with non-negligible rate of failure even in expert hands. In order to achieve the biliary tree, two main technique are nowadays mainly used, namely the contrast-assisted cannulation and the wire-guided cannulation (WGC) techniques. The WGC technique is widely used because it seems to be related to higher success rate of cannulation of the common bile duct and, at the same time, to lower rates of complications.

Orofacial signs and dental abnormalities in patients with Mulvihill-Smith syndrome: A literature review on this rare progeroid pathology.

Background: Mulvihill-Smith syndrome is a rare sporadic condition that was first recognized in 1975. A total of 11 cases have been described in the literature. The aim of this study was to describe the orofacial signs and dental anomalies, their frequency, and the relationship between Mulvihill-Smith syndrome and other progeroid syndromes via a review of the literature.

Comparison between Two Radiological Methods for Assessment of Tooth Root Resorption: An In Vitro Study.

Purpose: This study aims to verify the validity of the radiographic image and the most effective radiological techniques for the diagnosis of root resorption to prevent, cure, and reduce it and to verify if radiological images can be helpful in medical and legal situations.

Methods: 19 dental elements without root resorption extracted from several patients were examined: endooral and panoramic radiographs were performed, with traditional and digital methods. Then the root of each tooth was dipped into 3-4 mm of 10% nitric acid for 24 hours to simulate the resorption of the root and later submitted again to radiological examinations and measurements using the same criteria and methods.

Laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of stage I adult granulosa cells tumors of the ovary: Results from the MITO-9 study.

Objective: Surgery represents the mainstay of treatment of stage I adult type granulosa cell tumors of the ovary (AGCTs). Because of the rarity and indolent course of the disease, no prospective trials are available. Open surgery has long been considered the traditional approach; oncological safety of laparoscopy is only supported by small series or case reports.

Actinobacteria: A relevant minority for the maintenance of gut homeostasis.

Actinobacteria are one the four major phyla of the gut microbiota and, although they represent only a small percentage, are pivotal in the maintenance of gut homeostasis. During the last decade many studies focused the attention on Actinobacteria, especially on their role both in gastrointestinal and systemic diseases and on their possible therapeutic use. In fact, classes of this phylum, especially Bifidobacteria, are widely used as probiotic demonstrating beneficial effects in many pathological conditions, even if larger in vivo studies are needed to confirm such encouraging results.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with psoriasis: a consequence of systemic inflammatory burden?

Patients with psoriasis are at an increased risk for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) compared with the general population. However, the pathophysiology underlying this comorbidity and elucidation of effective treatment strategies are unclear. This review provides insights into the possible role of chronic, low-grade inflammation in the pathogenesis of NAFLD in patients with psoriasis.

Lung metastasectomy following kidney tumors: outcomes and prognostic factors from a single-center experience.

Background: The lung is one of the sites most frequently affected by metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Nonsurgical therapy for mRCC has limited efficacy, while the 5-year survival rates data published in literature after pulmonary surgery for metastasectomy, emphasize the role of surgery as the treatment that guarantees the best effectiveness in pulmonary resectable metastases.

Methods: From January 2000 to March 2016, 27 patients underwent pulmonary metastasectomy for metastatic renal cancer was retrospectively reviewed.

Teaching uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery in Rome.

Uniportal video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has recently gained popularity as procedure for major lung resections, and actually seems to be the future of thoracic surgery. Uniportal VATS has shown to be feasible and safe as thoracotomy when a correct and appropriate learning curve is done. However, switching from open or triportal VATS to uniportal VATS approach requires a proper training and a consequent learning curve even among experienced thoracoscopic surgeons.

Management of Surgical Third Lower Molar Extraction and Postoperative Progress in Patients With Factor VII Deficiency: A Clinical Protocol and Focus on This Rare Pathologic Entity.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to analyze the management of surgical third molar extraction and postoperative progress in patients with a diagnosis of factor VII deficiency. Close collaboration between the oral-maxillofacial surgeon and hematologist will allow the team to categorize the risk and operate safely, thereby minimizing the incidence and severity of intraoperative and postoperative complications.

Materials And Methods: The present retrospective study included 7 patients with factor VII deficiency who had undergone third lower molar surgery.

Sharing information about cancer with one's family is associated with improved quality of life.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between cancer patients' ability to share information about their illness with their social network and attachment style dimensions, alexithymia, and quality of life. We hypothesised that ability to share information about one's cancer with family, friends, and medical teams would be positively associated with quality of life and secure attachment and negatively associated with alexithymia.

Methods: Forty-five cancer patients were recruited from the Psycho-oncology Unit of the San Camillo-Forlanini Hospital in Rome.

Emotional management and biological markers of dietetic regimen in chronic kidney disease patients.

The aim of the study was to investigate the association between psychological characteristics and biological markers of adherence in chronic kidney disease patients receiving conservative therapy, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis (PD), or kidney transplantation. Seventy-nine adult patients were asked to complete the following questionnaires: Toronto Alexithymia scale, Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale, and Short Form Health Survey. Biological markers of adherence to treatment were measured.
