Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent urological condition leading to lower urinary tract symptoms. Minimal invasive surgical treatment (MISTs) such as Rezūm System are emerging aiming to relieve symptoms. We present results from a single centre prospective study.

Over the past decades, there have been great advancements in the antithrombotic management of patients undergoing percutaneous interventions, but most of the available evidence derives from studies conducted in the setting of cardiac interventions. Antithrombotic treatment regimens used in patients undergoing percutaneous cardiac interventions, in particular coronary, are frequently extrapolated to patients undergoing noncardiac interventions. However, the differences in risk profile of the population treated and the types of interventions performed may translate into differences is the safety and efficacy associated with antithrombotic therapy.

Antithrombotic therapy after cardiac percutaneous interventions is key for the prevention of thrombotic events but is inevitably associated with increased bleeding, proportional to the number, duration, and potency of the antithrombotic agents used. Bleeding complications have important clinical implications, which in some cases may outweigh the expected benefit of reducing thrombotic events. Because the response to antithrombotic agents varies widely among patients, there has been a relentless effort toward the identification of patients at high bleeding risk (HBR), in whom modulation of antithrombotic therapy may be needed to optimize the balance between safety and efficacy.

The zygomaticomaxillary complex is integral to facial aesthetics and is frequently involved in facial fractures. These injuries often necessitate surgical intervention, with open reduction and internal fixation being the standard treatment. This article presents a novel philosophy for managing zygomatic fractures, emphasizing the "Scarless Surgery" technique.

Despite the implementation of multimodal treatments after surgery, glioblastoma (GBM) remains an incurable disease, posing a significant challenge in neuro-oncology. In this clinical setting, local therapy (LT), a developing paradigm, has received significant interest over time due to its potential to overcome the drawbacks of conventional therapy options for GBM. The present review aimed to trace the historical development, highlight contemporary advances and provide insights into the future horizons of LT in GBM management.

Introduction: Technical advances and the increasing role of interdisciplinary decision-making may warrant formal definitions of expertise in surgical neuro-oncology.

Research Question: The EANS Neuro-oncology Section felt that a survey detailing the European neurosurgical perspective on the concept of expertise in surgical neuro-oncology might be helpful.

Material And Methods: The EANS Neuro-oncology Section panel developed an online survey asking questions regarding criteria for expertise in neuro-oncological surgery and sent it to all individual EANS members.

Background: Robotic-assisted surgery is the gold standard for performing radical prostatectomy (RARP), with new robotic devices such as Hugo RAS gaining prominence worldwide.

Objective: We report the surgical, perioperative, and early postoperative outcomes of RARP using Hugo RAS.

Design, Setting, And Participants: Between April 2022 and October 2023, we performed 132 procedures using the Montsouris technique with a four-robotic-arm configuration in patients with biopsy-proven prostate cancer (PCa).

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) to open radical cystectomy (ORC) in terms of surgical and cancer outcomes using specific criteria called trifecta and pentafecta.
  • Data from 41 patients undergoing RARC were compared to 330 patients who had ORC, focusing on factors like surgical margins, complications, and cancer recurrence.
  • While there were no significant differences in success rates between the two methods, RARC demonstrated a notable advantage with less blood loss during surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • * Radical cystectomy with urinary diversion is the standard treatment for muscle invasive BC, but it requires careful consideration of age and health status to reduce complications and hospital readmissions.
  • * Literature review indicates that while non-continent urinary diversion is favored for patients over 75, there isn't strong evidence against considering older patients for orthotopic neobladder reconstruction if they are carefully selected based on their health.

Background: COVID-19 pandemic is thought to have changed the epidemiology of some pediatric neurosurgical disease: among them are the intracranial complications of sinusitis and otitis (ICSO). According to some studies on a limited number of cases, both streptococci-related sinusitis and ICSO would have increased immediately after the pandemic, although the reason is not clear yet (seasonal changes versus pandemic-related effects). The goal of the present survey of the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN) was to collect a large number of cases from different European countries encompassing the pre-COVID (2017-2019), COVID (2020-2021), and post-COVID period (2022-June 2023) looking for possible epidemiological and/or clinical changes.

Introduction: Botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) injections in the prostate gland have been used as a minimally invasive option for treating bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). However, the efficacy of transurethral BoNT-A injections for BOO is not well established in the literature. The aim of this study is to collect evidence on the efficacy of transurethral BoNT-A injections for the treatment of BOO.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) remains a significant public health concern, closely linked to antibiotic overuse. During the COVID-19 pandemic, broad-spectrum antibiotics were frequently administered, potentially exacerbating AMR. This study aimed to assess AMR patterns in our urology department before and after the pandemic.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on human nerve growth factor (hNGF) and its analogs (mouse NGF and painless NGF) to explore their effects on ARPE-19 cells, a human retinal pigment cell line, particularly under oxidative stress conditions.
  • - Results indicated that exposure to oxidative stimuli like hydrogen peroxide and UV-A significantly decreases cell viability, and whereas hNGF worsens this effect, pNGF appears to be less harmful.
  • - The findings suggest that while hNGF can exacerbate oxidative damage through increased p75 receptor expression, pNGF might present a more favorable benefit/risk ratio for potential clinical applications in ocular disorders.

Purpose: The primary aim of this study was to evaluate if exposure to 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs) modifies the effect of MRI for the diagnosis of clinically significant Prostate Cancer (csPCa) (ISUP Gleason grade ≥ 2).

Methods: This study is a multicenter cohort study including patients undergoing prostate biopsy and MRI at 24 institutions between 2013 and 2022. Multivariable analysis predicting csPCa with an interaction term between 5-ARIs and PIRADS score was performed.
