Oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC) is amongst the most lethal cancers worldwide, with poor treatment response leading to low survival rates. Recent improvements have been achieved by including the tumour microenvironment (TME) and patients' immune profiles in treatment decisions. We already know that patients with immune-enriched/inflamed TME have better survival outcomes.

Background And Objective: The conventional aqueous outflow pathway, which includes the trabecular meshwork (TM), juxtacanalicular tissue (JCT), and inner wall endothelium of Schlemm's canal (SC) and its basement membrane, plays a significant role in regulating intraocular pressure (IOP) by controlling aqueous humor outflow resistance. Despite its significance, the biomechanical and hydrodynamic properties of this region remain inadequately understood. Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling using high-resolution microstructural images of the outflow pathway provides a comprehensive method to estimate these properties under varying conditions, offering valuable understandings beyond the capabilities of current imaging techniques.

Background: Care home residents are a highly vulnerable group, but identifying care home residents in routine data is challenging. This study aimed to develop and validate Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods to identify care home residents from primary care address records.
Methods: The proposed system applies an NLP sequential filtering and preprocessing of text, then the calculation of similarity scores between general practice (GP) addresses and care home registered addresses.

Lymphoproliferative disorders of natural killer (NK)-cell lineage are well documented in humans but have yet to be documented in non-human primates (NHPs). Here we describe a case of NK-cell lymphoproliferative disorder/leukemia in a 20-y-old captive female rhesus macaque (). The animal clinically had mild splenomegaly and marked lymphocytosis with small-to-medium lymphocytes in blood smears.

Internalizing disorders are common in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and otherwise non-heterosexual or non-cisgender (LGBTQ+) people. Few studies have evaluated the efficacy of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), a well-established treatment for internalizing disorders, in LGBTQ+ people. The current study quantitatively synthesized outcomes from existing trials of CBT for internalizing disorders in LGBTQ+ people.

As neutron yields increase at fusion facilities, a universal symptom the community must deal with is MeV neutron-induced backgrounds in cables running to diagnostics. On the first Gain >1 plasmas in the world, the National Ignition Facility (NIF) neutron time-of-flight (nToF) diagnostic registered significant cable backgrounds that compromised key performance measurements. The South Pole nToF is uniquely located inside the NIF Target Bay shield walls, ∼18 m from the fusion source, and consequently has long coaxial cable runs (>20 m) that see significant neutron fluence.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are one of the leading causes of years of living with disability in the UK, resulting in pressure on the health system and the UK economy. In response to the increasing levels of patients accessing NHS care with MSK conditions across Sandwell and West Birmingham (SWB), a digital triage and self-management tool was implemented in 2023.
Aims: To optimise safety, efficiency, and choice within the community MSK service from the first contact through to specialist MSK care through digital triage and supported self-management.

The southern Appalachian Mountains are a biodiverse region with high levels of endemism. Shared biogeographic patterns among co-distributed, but independent taxa might illuminate common drivers of Appalachian endemism. Lathrobium is a Holarctic genus with 38 species described form North America, six of which are flightless and endemic to the high Appalachians.

Background: clinical guidelines recommend initiation of antiviral therapy as soon as possible for patients hospitalized with confirmed or suspected influenza.
Methods: A multicenter US observational sentinel surveillance network prospectively enrolled adults (aged ≥18 years) hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza at 24 hospitals during October 1, 2022-July 21, 2023. A multivariable proportional odds model was used to compare peak pulmonary disease severity (no oxygen support, standard supplemental oxygen, high-flow oxygen/non-invasive ventilation, invasive mechanical ventilation, or death) after the day of hospital admission among patients starting oseltamivir treatment on the day of admission (early) versus those who did not (late or not treated), adjusting for baseline (admission day) severity, age, sex, site, and vaccination status.
Transcranial alternating current stimulation (ctACS) has the potential to be an appealing, non-invasive treatment option for psychiatric and neurological disorders. However, its potential has been limited by significant knowledge gaps in the details and mechanisms of how ctACS affects cerebellar output on single cell and population levels. We investigated this issue by making single-unit recordings of Purkinje cells (PC) and lateral cerebellar nuclear (Lat CN) cells in response to ctACS in anesthetized adult female Sprague-Dawley rats.

Background: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is essential in determining the efficacy of novel therapies in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). These require initial proof-of-concept demonstration that treatment administration increases alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) levels and/or anti-neutrophil elastase inhibitory capacity (ANEC) in the lung. Early-phase studies often encounter high interindividual variability of BAL results, primarily stemming from the inherent dilution characteristics of returned BAL fluid.

The here-provided description of the new genera and was necessitated by a phylogenetic study of Staphylininae (to be published separately), which will be used for the proper characterization of their respective new suprageneric lineages in an upcoming update of the higher classification of this subfamily. Both new genera are erected for species that had been previously described but misplaced in the highly polyphyletic "taxonomic wastebasket" genera (Amblyopinina) and (Quediina), resulting in the following new combinations: (Smetana, 1971), ex. ; (Smetana, 1971), ex.

Introduction: Health inequality is a global public health challenge, limited by insufficient high-quality data and analysis. Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain disorders are more prevalent among ethnic minority groups disproportionately affected by socioeconomic disparities and poor health outcomes. Ethnicity data collection enables NHS organisations and policymakers to understand specific healthcare needs and ensure equitable access and care provision.
