Hydroa vacciniforme lymphoproliferative disorders (HVLPD) fall within the clinical spectrum of chronic active epstein barr virus (EBV) disease (CAEBVD), ranging from localised and/or indolent forms (classic HVLPD) to systemic disease with fever, hepatosplenomegaly and lymphadenopathy (systemic HVLPD). A preadolescent male with 47XYY, multicystic dysplastic kidney, autism spectrum disorder and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) presented with photodistributed non-pruritic, non-painful necrotic papulovesicles accompanied by non-febrile intermittent fatigue and lymphadenopathy. The patient had a history of EBV pneumonia in infancy confirmed by CT scan and was later diagnosed with CAEBV.

Neonatal sepsis results in significant morbidity and mortality, but early detection is clinically challenging. In a neonatal rat model of endotoxic shock, we characterised unique infrared thermographic (IRT) profiles in skin temperature that could identify risk of later mortality. Ten-day old rats were placed in a thermally stable isolette and IRT images of cranial (T), scapula (T) and rump (T) skin temperature were obtained continuously for 8Â h following an intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or saline.

Obesity is a growing concern in the US and world-wide, associated with an increased risk for several cardiometabolic diseases, including metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Currently, therapeutic interventions to prevent and/or treat MASLD are limited, and research is needed to identify new therapeutic targets. The specific-sized 35kDa fragment of hyaluronan (HA35), has gut protective and anti-inflammatory properties and a previous pilot clinical study reported it is well tolerated in healthy individuals.

: Cyclical vomiting syndrome (CVS) is a recurrent debilitating illness characterized by intense episodes of nausea and emesis with widely varied pharmacological management across the country. Aprepitant is now increasingly used in patients with CVS. The impact of aprepitant as an abortive therapy in the readmission of pediatric patients with CVS is currently unknown.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a complex chronic condition that places young adults aged 18-31 years at high risk for general and diabetes-related distress and poor cardiovascular health. Both general and diabetes distress are linked to higher A1C, a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The purpose of this cross-sectional quantitative descriptive study was to examine the associations between distress symptoms (general and diabetes) and cardiovascular health while considering covariates in young adults ages 18-31 years with T1D.

Data about metabolic syndrome (MS) in people who use drugs (PWUD) undergoing treatment for recovery are limited. We aimed to explore the extent of the MS and its predominant components and determinants in a sample of PWUD undergoing treatment for recovery through rehabilitation or opioid substitution treatment (OST) in Lebanon. Furthermore, we investigated the effect of each treatment modality on the MS; This was a cross-sectional study, in which demographics and treatment-related, nutritional, and biochemical data of the participants were collected.

Moderating the pool of active ribosomal subunits is critical for maintaining global translation rates. A factor crucial for modulating the 60S ribosomal subunit is eukaryotic translation initiation factor-6 (eIF6). Release of eIF6 from the 60S subunit is essential to permit 60S interactions with the 40S subunit.

Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a major public health challenge, affecting millions worldwide and placing a significant burden on healthcare systems due to high hospitalization rates and limited treatment options. HFpEF is characterized by impaired cardiac relaxation, or diastolic dysfunction. However, there are no therapies that directly treat the primary feature of the disease.

The number of dental implants placed and restored every year is increasing across the world. However, there has been an increase in the number of reports with implant-related surgical complications in which the inferior alveolar nerve injury is the most serious one. This surgical problem can be avoided by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), three-dimensional (3D) implant planning software, and computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology such as stereolithographic surgical guides.

Conventional complete denture wearers often complain of lack of stability and overall discomfort with their prostheses. The advent of dental implants and advanced prosthetic methods have greatly improved this struggle for edentulous patients. The utilisation of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology has only further enhanced the capabilities of dental practitioners to rapidly and accurately restore edentulism.

Purpose: Despite efforts to minimize opioid prescribing, outpatient ventral hernia repair (VHR) with mesh remains notoriously painful, often requiring postoperative opioid analgesia. Here, we aim to characterize patterns of opioid prescribing for the heterogenous group of patients and procedures that comprise mesh-based, outpatient VHR.
Methods: The Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative registry was queried for patients undergoing VHR with mesh who were discharged the same or next day between January 2019 to October 2023.

RSV vaccine clinical trials reported higher frequencies of atrial fibrillation in intervention groups compared to control. In this large, population-based, propensity-matched study, we found RSV vaccine was not associated with increased risk of new-onset or recurrent atrial fibrillation within 1-42 days compared to influenza or Tdap vaccines.

Machine learning is an effective tool for predicting reaction rate constants for many organic compounds with the hydroxyl radical (HO). Previously reported models have achieved relatively good performance, but due to scarce data (<1400 records), the applicability domain (AD) has been significantly limited. To address this limitation, we curated a much larger experimental data set (Primary data set), which contains 2358 kinetic records.

Background: Cell-free hemoglobin (CFH) and free heme are potent mediators of endotheliopathy and organ injury in sepsis, but their roles in other hemolytic pathologies are not well-defined. A prime example is trauma where early hemolysis may initiate damage and predict outcome. Here, we investigated the presence of plasma CFH, heme, and their major scavengers after traumatic injury.

We describe results from a multicenter pilot study evaluating the eQUANT system for rapid generation of a standardized inoculum (0.5 McFarland equivalent) directly from blood cultures positive for target gram-negative bloodstream pathogens for same-day antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) by disk diffusion, MicroScan and Vitek2 methods. Out of 167 blood cultures that met study criteria (monomicrobial with one of 9 target gram-negative species), colony counts from eQUANT suspensions of 164 (98.
