Here, we report a case of EMPD extensively involving oral mucosa and underlying salivary ducts in a 72-year-old male and review published clinical, histologic, immunophenotypic, and prognostic features of this rare entity.

Barriers to dental utilization among Medicaid-enrolled young children from primary care practices in Northeast Ohio.

Objectives: To evaluate the individual and community factors that contribute to dental utilization among young children on Medicaid utilizing the Anderson Model and the Socio-Ecological Framework.

Methods: This observational cross-sectional study was conducted using baseline data (socio-demographics, clinical dental need) from a cluster-randomized hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial among 1021 child-parent dyads recruited from primary care practices across northeast Ohio. The baseline data were then linked to dental Medicaid claims data (categorized as any dental visit, volume, and type in the past 12 months) and ICD-10 codes from the child's EHR data (individual-level) together with Dental Health Provider Shortage Area (HPSA) status and Area Deprivation Index (ADI) which were obtained at the neighbourhood-level using home address of each dyad (community-level).

Osteoma of the stylohyoid chain: A rare presentation in a CBCT study.

A 54-year-old male patient presented for a periodic check-up at the dental clinic. A panoramic radiograph showed bilateral ossification of the stylohyoid ligament with an oval radiopacity on the right side. Cone-beam computed tomography revealed a well-defined, homogenous hyperdense entity from the lower third of the ossified stylohyoid ligament on the right side.

Biodentine as a pulpotomy medicament for primary molars: a retrospective chart review.

This retrospective chart review study investigates the long-term clinical outcome of Biodentine® (Tricalcium silicate) as a medicament for pulpotomy in primary molars. Data in this retrospective study was collected from the dental records of all patients that had at least one primary molar receive pulpotomy treatment (CDT code: D3221) between 01 July 2012 and 01 July 2015. This data includes child's age, medical history, dental history, dental radiographs, pulpotomy procedure details and follow-up clinical notes.

Introduction: A musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) of pain, weakness, numbness, or paresthesia is a common issue for dental health care providers. The aims of this study were to (1) identify the prevalence of MSDs among endodontists in the United States, (2) to identify risk factors of MSDs among United States endodontists, and (3) to compare these findings with other published findings for dental providers.

Methods: A 24-question survey regarding the demographics, potential risk factors, and prevalence of MSDs was formulated and distributed to 5394 members of the American Association of Endodontists.

3D printed PEKK bone analogs with internal porosity and surface modification for mandibular reconstruction: An in vivo rabbit model study.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and its derivative polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) have been used as implant materials for spinal fusing and enjoyed their success for many years because of their mechanical properties similar to bone and their chemical inertness. The osseointegration of PEEKs is datable. Our strategy was to use custom-designed and 3D printed bone analogs with an optimized structure design and a modified PEKK surface to augment bone regeneration for mandibular reconstruction.

Experimental validation of a new model for mandibular motions.

Long-term excessive forces loading from muscles of mastication during mandibular motions may result in disorders of temporomandibular joint (TMJ), myofascial pain, and restriction of jaw opening and closing. Current analysis of mandibular movements is generally conducted with a single opening, protrusive and lateral movements rather than composite motions that the three can be combined arbitrarily. The objective of this study was to construct theoretical equations reflecting the correlation between composite motions and muscle forces, and consequently to analyze the mandibular composite motions and the tensions of muscles of mastication in multiple dimensions.

Educating dental students to provide compassionate age friendly care for older adults.

As the world population ages, the need for age friendly care increases. In dentistry, age friendly care requires an appropriate comprehension of multiple factors that can be categorized in socio-economic circumstances, systemic health problems, and oral health conditions. In addition to the understanding of these factors and its relationships among each other, the future dental workforce should also be aware of unconscious and pervasive societal stereotypical perception of older persons, aging, and being old, which results in ageism and ageist attitudes.
