Study Objectives: Narcolepsy is a neurologic disorder characterized by irresistible sleep attacks. Although its etiology is unknown, it is strongly associated with genetic variances in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex. We investigated the association of HLA class II-DR-DQ alleles in a sample of patients with narcolepsy-cataplexy (narcolepsy type 1 [NT1]) and patients with narcolepsy without cataplexy (narcolepsy type 2) with a control group.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are promising drug targets for obesity and metabolic disorders. Recently, miRNA mimics are providing a unique mechanism of action that guides the process for drug development and sets out the context of their therapeutic application. miRNA (miR)-21 expression in white adipose tissue (WAT) has been associated with obesity.

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 or Covid-19), which began as an epidemic in China and spread globally as a pandemic, has necessitated resource management to meet emergency needs of Covid-19 patients and other emergent cases. We have conducted a survey to analyze caseload and measures to adapt indications for a perception of crisis.
Methods: We constructed a questionnaire to survey a snapshot of neurosurgical activity, resources, and indications during 1 week with usual activity in December 2019 and 1 week during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in March 2020.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is regarded as a prototype autoimmune disease because it can serve as a means for studying differences between ethnic minorities and sex. Traditionally, all Hispanics have been bracketed within the same ethnic group, but there are differences between Hispanics from Spain and those from Latin America, not to mention other Spanish-speaking populations.
Objectives: This study aimed to determine the demographic and clinical characteristics, severity, activity, damage, mortality and co-morbidity of SLE in Hispanics belonging to the two ethnic groups resident in Spain, and to identify any differences.

Purpose: Salts of phenylacetic acid (PAA) and phenylbutyric acid (PBA) have been used for nitrogen elimination as a treatment for hyperammonaemia caused by urea cycle disorders (UCD). A new analytical method for PBA measurement in urine which helps to evaluate the drug adherence has been implemented.
Methods: Urine specimens from UCD patients receiving PBA were analysed by tandem mass spectrometry to measure urine phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln).

Background: Suprasellar epidermoid cysts (SECs) constitute a large portion of so-called pearly tumors. Despite their insidious development and infiltration into vital neurovascular structures, they have a friable consistency, which particularly facilitates their resection; the only alternative to surgery is wait-and-see policy. We present a case of SEC in a patient with bitemporal hemianopia and no other significant symptoms and results of analysis of data on surgical treatment of 71 similar cases reported in the last 4 decades.

Objective: Worldwide disparities in the provision of surgical care result in otherwise preventable disability and death. There is a growing need to quantify the global burden of neurosurgical disease specifically, and the workforce necessary to meet this demand.
Methods: Results from a multinational collaborative effort to describe the global neurosurgical burden were aggregated and summarized.

Background: Everolimus with exemestane has shown promising activity in patients with hormone-receptor (HR)-positive HER2-negative endocrine-resistant advanced breast cancer. It is necessary, therefore, to characterize the safety profile of this new combination in the real-world clinical setting and in the broadest possible population.
Patients And Methods: Post-menopausal women with HR-positive HER2-negative advanced breast cancer progressing after prior non-steroidal aromatase inhibitors (NSAIs) were included.

Adipose tissue-derived multipotent mesenchymal cells (ASCs) participate in the information of blood vessels under hypoxic conditions. It is probable that the susceptibility of ASCs to the influence of age and ageing-associated pathologies compromises their therapeutic effectiveness depending on the adipose tissue depot. Our aim was to examine the neovascular potential under hypoxic conditions of ASCs-derived from thymic (thymASCs) and subcutaneous (subASCs) adipose tissue from 39 subjects with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and of different ages who were undergoing coronary bypass surgery.
