Skeletal muscle architecture is a key determinant of muscle function. Architectural properties such as fascicle length, pennation angle, and curvature can be characterized using Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI), but acquiring these data during a contraction is not currently feasible. The dynamic range and fluctuations of fluorescence intensities and lifetimes in biological samples are large, demanding fast, precise, and versatile techniques. Among the high-speed fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) techniques, directly sampling the output of analog single-photon detectors at GHz rates combined with computational photon counting can handle a larger range of photon rates. Traditionally, the laser clock is not sampled explicitly in fast FLIM; rather the detection is synchronized to the laser clock so that the excitation pulse train can be inferred from the cumulative photon statistics of several pixels.

We analyzed ophthalmic retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) images from patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) to identify retinal layer thickness and ratio changes that may serve as image-based biomarkers for the disease. One three-dimensional volume before and one after diagnosis for each of 48 patients were segmented to identify retinal layer and total retinal thicknesses. Between before- and after-diagnosis retinal OCT images, there were significant thickness changes in six of ten (60%) retinal layers across all 48 patients.

Background: The use of cryopreserved saphenous veins (CSVs) for the treatment of lower extremity peripheral arterial disease is an attractive option when there is no available autogenous vein. Prior studies found CSVs are at risk for aneurysmal degeneration requiring reoperation. Significance: Full-field optical coherence microscopy (FF-OCM) is a prevalent technique for backscattering and phase imaging with epi-detection. Traditional methods have two limitations: suboptimal utilization of functional information about the sample and complicated optical design with several moving parts for phase contrast.

Aim: We report an OCM setup capable of generating dynamic intensity, phase, and pseudo-spectroscopic contrast with single-shot full-field video-rate imaging called bichromatic tetraphasic (BiTe) full-field OCM with no moving parts.

Recurrent painful ophthalmoplegic neuropathy (RPON), previously known as ophthalmoplegic migraine, is a disorder typically characterized by recurrent episodes of unilateral headache concurrent with ipsilateral ocular cranial nerve paresis which primarily affects children. Diagnosis is mostly one of exclusion, based on clinical symptoms, supplemented by imaging for enhanced or distorted oculomotor nerves. We present a case of RPON in a 24-year-old adult female with unique features of unilateral left headache with ipsilateral pupillary dilation spreading to bilateral dilation and no MRI findings of oculomotor nerve enhancement.

Purpose: To determine the effects of gargle phonation (GP) on self-perceived vocal improvement, vocal effort, acoustic parameters, and speech rate in patients with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD).
