Introduction: Initial data suggest that His Bundle Pacing (HBP) could preserve long-term cardiac structure and function better than Right Ventricular Pacing (RVP), but evidence is limited.
Methods: We studied consecutive patients with baseline ejection fraction (EF) ≥ 50% who underwent HBP attempt, either successful (HBP group) or failed (RVP group). Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography were carried out at baseline and after 6 months of ventricular pacing burden > 20%.

Background: Most Hypertension Guidelines grade hypertension according to various cut-off values. We sought to investigate the prognostic impact of Grades 1 (140-159 and/or 90-99 mmHg), 2 (160-179 and/or 100-109 mmHg) and 3 (≥180 and/or ≥110 mmHg).
Methods: We followed for an average of 10 years a cohort of 3,150 initially untreated hypertensive patients (mean age 50 years, 44 % women) with no previous cardiovascular disease at entry.

November 2023
Department of Pediatrics, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, Taichung City, Taiwan.
Background: Kimura disease (KD) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder involving the Th2 pathway. Although medical treatment with steroids or other immunosuppressants is available, they may cause developmental issues in the pediatric population. Surgical intervention has also been suggested; however, it is associated with high recurrence rates.

Objectives: To date, the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for acute stroke patients has not been well recognized. The study aimed to discover the effectiveness of group-based ACT in treating depression for acute stroke patients.
Methods: We conducted a randomized controlled trial with 140 acute stroke patients with depression.

Background: Psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) has re-emerged as a promising intervention for addressing mental health conditions and existential concerns. Despite growing enthusiasm, PAT may be difficult to integrate into mainstream health systems. The rich sacramental traditions of psychedelics, their centering of the human experience, proposed substrates of action, context-dependent outcomes, and highly relational method of therapy all challenge dominant reductionistic approaches of the biomedical model.

Purpose: Environmental pollutant Bisphenol A (BPA) strongly interacts with insulin resistance, which leads to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Uncontrolled glucose levels in both blood and urine develops vascular complications in T2DM patients. However, glucose-controlled diabetic patients are also affected by vascular complications due to vascular calcification, and there is a lack of clinically relevant data on BPA levels available in patients with T2DM-associated vascular complications due to vascular calcification.

Catheter-based renal artery denervation (RAD) is entering a new era. After the disappointing results of SYMPLICITY-HTN 3 trial in year 2014, several technical and methodological advancements led to execution of important SHAM-controlled randomized trials with promising results. Now, the 2023 ESH Guidelines give RAD a class of recommendation II with a Level of Evidence B.

Backgrounds: This study performed multi-modal hemodynamic analysis including quantitative color-coded digital subtraction angiography (QDSA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to delineate peri-therapeutic hemodynamic changes and explore the risk factors for in-stent restenosis (ISR) and symptomatic ISR (sISR).
Methods: Forty patients were retrospectively reviewed. Time to peak (TTP), full width at half maximum (FWHM), cerebral circulation time (CCT), angiographic mean transit time (aMTT), arterial stenosis index (ASI), wash-in gradient (WI), wash-out gradient (WO) and stasis index were calculated with QDSA and translesional pressure ratio (PR) and wall shear stress ratio (WSSR) were quantified from CFD analysis.

Background: The immune landscape of breast cancer (BC) in patients from Sub Saharan Africa is understudied. Our aims were to describe the distribution of Tumour Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs) within the intratumoural stroma (sTILs) and the leading/invasive edge stroma (LE-TILs), and to evaluate TILs across BC subtypes with established risk factors and clinical characteristics in Kenyan women.
Methods: Visual quantification of sTILs and LE-TILs were performed on Haematoxylin and eosin -stained pathologically confirmed BC cases based on the International TIL working group guidelines.

Background: Early neurological deterioration (END), generally defined as the increment of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score ≥4 within 24 hours, lead to poor clinical outcome in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients receiving reperfusion therapies including intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and/or endovascular treatment (EVT). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore multiple predictors of END following reperfusion therapies.
Methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science and EBSCO for all studies on END in AIS patients receiving IVT and/or EVT published between January 2000 and December 2022.

The basilar artery has the most perioperative complications in stenting compared to the other intracranial arteries. We aim to study whether the procedural safety in stenting for basilar stenosis has improved. This study was a single-arm, non-randomized trial that included historically controlled patients for comparison.

Among the various comorbidities potentially worsening the clinical outcome in patients hospitalized for the acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), hypertension is one of the most prevalent. However, the basic mechanisms underlying the development of severe forms of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among hypertensive patients remain undefined and the direct association of hypertension with outcome in COVID-19 is still a field of debate. Experimental and clinical data suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection promotes a rise in blood pressure (BP) during the acute phase of infection.

Background: Several clinical trials have reported that periprocedural risk of carotid artery stenting (CAS) increase with age. China is experiencing one of the most rapid transitions to an aging society, while the clinical outcomes of CAS in real-world China are still limited. The study aimed to compare the periprocedural and an extending 5-year event rates between younger and older patients treated by CAS to testify the safety of CAS in older patients in China.
