Although there are short- and long-term prognostic studies in patients with myocardial infarction (MI), the data that can be used to predict the clinical outcome following discharge is limited. We analyzed creatinine kinase-MB and troponin related to myonecrosis, suppression of tumorigenicity 2 and NT-pro B-type natriuretic peptide related to myocardial stress, C-reactive protein and procalcitonin related to inflammation in 259 MI patients. Being in the high group for myocardial stress (odds ratio [OR]: 3.

Background: The incidence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is significantly higher in patients who undergo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). OSA is correlated with a higher incidence of postoperative complications in patients undergoing CABG. However, whether OSA is associated with a decrease in renal function and a higher incidence of dialysis after CABG remains unclear.

Although many anatomical variations may be encountered in children with double outlet right ventricle, coexistence of levo-malposed great vessels and left juxtaposed atrial appendages is uncommonly observed. This case report underlines the rarity of this anatomical combination and its clinical significance along with the surgical management in an infant.

Mad honey intoxication (MHI) is a food-induced clinical condition that usually presents with cardiovascular symptoms and can lead to life-threatening arrhythmias if not diagnosed and treated early. No data exist in the literature on the presence of interatrial block (IAB) after food intoxication. In our study, we sought to investigate atrioventricular electrocardiography (ECG) parameters and determine the frequency of IAB in patients with MHI.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe, life-threatening disorder despite the availability of specific drug therapy. A lack of endogenous prostacyclin secondary to downregulation of prostacyclin synthase in PAH may contribute to vascular pathologies. Therefore, prostacyclin and its analogs including inhaled iloprost may decrease pulmonary arterial pressure and ventricular pressure.

Zinc, an abundant transition metal, serves as a signalling molecule in several biological systems. Zinc transporters are genetically associated with cardiovascular diseases but the function of zinc in vascular tone regulation is unknown. We found that elevating cytoplasmic zinc using ionophores relaxed rat and human isolated blood vessels and caused hyperpolarization of smooth muscle membrane.

Objective: Hyponatremia is a prognostic marker for specific pathologies. However, the association between contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) and post-procedural hyponatremia has not been explored. Our study aims to evaluate the association between hyponatremia developing after contrast media administration and CIN.

Background: An increase in short-term mortality can be found among older patients with hemodynamically stable acute pulmonary embolism (APE) who have signs of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction.
Aims: This study was designed to assess whether any difference exists among clinical, laboratory, electrocardiography and echocardiography parameters between older and younger patients diagnosed with APE.
Methods: The study sample included a total of 635 patients with confirmed APE who were divided into two groups of older (65 years and older) and younger (younger than 65 years) individuals.

To determine the effect of renal artery stenosis (RAS) resulting from acute type B aortic dissection (ATBAD) with thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) on early prognosis in patients with ATBAD. A total of 129 ATBAD patients in the National Acute Aortic Syndrome Database (AASCN) who underwent TEVAR between 2019 and 2020 were enrolled in our study. Patients were divided into two groups: the RAS group and the non-RAS group.

This study evaluated the impact of the baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) on clinical and angiographic outcomes and long-term in-stent restenosis (ISR) rates in patients undergoing elective carotid artery stenting (CAS) procedures. Consecutive patients who underwent CAS were retrospectively enrolled (n = 456). At the end of 3 years of follow-up, patients who had died or were lost follow-up were excluded from the study and a final analysis was performed using data from the remaining 405 patients.

Background: Despite the important role of some haematological parameters in tendency to thrombosis is known, their relationship with long-term stent thrombosis (ST) remains unclear.
Aims: This study aimed to investigate the association between the mean platelet volume (MPV) to platelet count (PC) ratio and long-term ST and mortality in patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated successfully by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI).
Methods: In a retrospective cohort study, according to their baseline MPV/PC ratios, 3667 consecutive STEMI patients undergoing pPCI were divided into three groups: tertile 1 (T1) (n = 1222, 0.

Purpose: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and myocardial fibrosis are associated with cardiac arrhythmia. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between OSA and myocardial fibrosis, as well as their impact on cardiac arrhythmia in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) patients.
Methods: We prospectively studied 151 consecutive patients with a confirmed diagnosis of HOCM at the Fuwai Hospital between September 2017 and 2018.

Background: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in several cardiovascular diseases. However, the prognostic significance of RDW in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) who underwent septal myectomy remains unclear as no studies have been conducted on this topic. This study aimed to assess the prognostic significance of RDW in these patients.

There are controversies in the literature on the blood supply to the forearm after surgical removal of the radial artery in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The objective was to investigate the arterial remodeling of the ulnar artery after the removal of the radial artery in myocardial revascularization by means of ultrasound examination with color Doppler in the pre- and post-operative periods. This paper describes an observational prospective study of the remodeling of the left brachial and ulnar arteries (donor arm) in 103 right-handed non-consecutive adult patients undergoing CABG with removal of the ipsilateral radial artery using the color Doppler ultrasound examination.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of one-staged hybrid procedure for aortic lesions involving the distal aortic arch.
Methods: We retrospectively studied 99 consecutive patients who underwent the hybrid procedure (thoracic endovascular aortic repair combined with supra-arch branch vessel bypass) in our center between April 2009 and January 2020 for lesions involving the distal aortic arch.
Results: Median age was 64.

Background: Hypothermic circulatory arrest is usually used in aortic surgery, congenital heart defect repairs and other complex surgeries. It is frequently associated with excessive postoperative bleeding and the transfusion of allogeneic blood products. The physiopathology of hypothermic circulatory arrest-induced coagulopathy has never been systematically studied.

Pulmonary venous connections may be infrequently abnormal in patients with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). A special subgroup of partial anomalous pulmonary venous return,"scimitar cyndrome", and its coexistence with TOF is less frequently reported. It may proceed unnoticed, as cyanosis already predominates in the clinical picture.

Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and endothelial dysfunction are associated with cardiovascular risk factors and the development of atherosclerosis. Endocan is a marker of endothelial dysfunction, while obstructive sleep apnea is one of the causes of endothelial dysfunction. In this study, we investigated the relationship between endocan and obstructive sleep apnea severity.
