Aims: The therapeutic efficacy of coronary revascularization is compromised by myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MI/R) injury. Higher levels of circulating arachidonic acid (AA) are reportedly associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease. The cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway metabolizes AA into prostaglandins (PGs) and the platelet-activating thromboxane A2 (TXA2), which is inhibited by aspirin.

Background: Alternative splicing (AS) is a process that facilitates the differential inclusion of exonic sequences from precursor messenger RNAs, significantly enhancing the diversity of the transcriptome and proteome. In cancer, pathogenic AS events are closely related to cancer progression. This study aims to investigate the role and regulatory mechanisms of AS in gastric cancer (GC).

Late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) is a chronic, multifactorial, and progressive neurodegenerative disease that associates with aging and is highly prevalent in our older population (≥65 years of age). This hypothesis generating this narrative review will examine the important role for the use of sodium thiosulfate (STS) as a possible multi-targeting treatment option for LOAD. Sulfur is widely available in our environment and is responsible for forming organosulfur compounds that are known to be associated with a wide range of biological activities in the brain.

Importance: Although cumulative evidence suggests that higher blood pressure (BP) and a greater burden of social determinants of health (SDOH) are associated with an increased risk of stroke, few studies have examined whether SDOH burden modifies the association between BP and stroke risk.
Objective: To evaluate whether the association between BP classification and stroke risk differs by SDOH burden among Chinese adults.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In this cohort study, analyses were conducted among 90 850 participants in the prospective subcohort of the China Patient-Centered Evaluative Assessment of Cardiac Events Million Persons Project, with recruitment from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2020.

Acute myocardial infarction (MI) induced by thrombus formation is a prevalent cardiovascular disorder, and thrombolytic therapy continues to be a principal treatment modality. Prior research indicates a substantial association among MI, thrombosis, and the activation of oxidative stress pathways. The effectiveness of current thrombolytic drugs is relatively constrained, and the need for innovative and versatile thrombolytic medications remains critical.

Though it has no catalytic activity toward GM2 ganglioside, the GM2 activator protein (GM2A) is essential for ganglioside hydrolysis by facilitating the action of lysosomal ß-N-acetylhexosaminidase. GM2A deficiency results in death in early childhood due to rapid central nervous system deterioration similar to the related GM2 gangliosidoses, Tay-Sachs disease and Sandhoff disease. This manuscript further characterizes a feline model of GM2A deficiency with a focus on clinical and biochemical parameters that may be useful as benchmarks for translational therapeutic research.

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with atrial fibrillation (AF) being a common complication. Chronic inflammatory responses play a significant role in the relationship between coronary artery disease and AF. This study aims to investigate the value of the multi-inflammatory index (MII) in predicting the occurrence of atrial fibrillation in patients with coronary heart disease.

Background: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a chronic vascular inflammatory disease without effective medications. PCSK9 (proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9), a serine protease from the proprotein convertase family, has recently been associated with AAA in human genome-wide association studies. Myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. MI-damaged vascular structures are difficult to completely restore due to the heart's low regenerative capacity. Given interleukin-33 (IL-33) as a potent endothelial activator promoting angiogenesis, this study investigated the role of IL-33 in angiogenesis and cardiac repair after MI.

Doxorubicin (DOX), a potent antineoplastic agent, is commonly associated with cardiotoxicity, necessitating the development of strategies to reduce its adverse effects on cardiac function. Previous research has demonstrated a strong correlation between DOX-induced cardiotoxicity and the activation of oxidative stress pathways. This work introduces a novel antioxidant therapeutic approach, utilizing libraries of tannic acid and N-acetyl-L-cysteine-protected bimetallic cluster nanozymes.

Background: Acute myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) with complicated mechanisms contributes to a high risk of ventricular arrhythmia, high lethality, and even sudden death. In vitro, Fraxinellone (FRA) exhibits an array of biologic activities and may possess cardioprotective effects. However, no relevant studies have examined FRA's protective potential against MIRI and related ventricular arrhythmias.

Increasing studies have investigated the link between physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior with venous thromboembolism (VTE) but the existing findings are not consistent and the independent relationship is uncertain. This meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively assess the shape of dose-response relationship between PA and sedentary behavior with VTE and further explore whether the relationship is independent after mutual adjustment. We systematically searched PubMed, Embase and Web of Science from inception to August 1, 2024.

Aortic dissection, characterized by a high immediate mortality, is primarily caused by excessive bleeding within the walls of the aorta or a severe tear within the intimal layer of the aorta. Inflammation, as well as oxidative stress and the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM), are significant factors in the development and occurrence of aortic dissection. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are pivotal enzymes responsible for degrading the ECM.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a severe clinical syndrome characterized by rapid deterioration of renal function caused by a variety of pathogeneses. Natural polyphenols have been considered to have potential in the treatment of AKI due to their powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, but their low bioavailability limits their efficacy. Polyphenol nanoparticles based on a nano-delivery system show good effects in reducing kidney injury, improving renal function and promoting renal tissue repair, and brings new hope and possibility for the treatment of AKI.

Aloperine (ALO), a quinolizidine-type alkaloid isolated from a natural Chinese herb, has shown promising antitumor effects. Nevertheless, its common mechanism of action and specific target remain elusive. Here, it is demonstrated that ALO inhibits the proliferation and migration of non-small cell lung cancer cell lines in vitro and the tumor development in several mouse tumor models in vivo.

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) is a necrotizing granulomatous vasculitis classified as an autoimmune small-vessel vasculitis. Clinically, approximately 80% of affected organs in GPA involve the upper/lower respiratory tract and kidneys, with cardiovascular system involvement being rare. Here, we report a case of a 50-year-old female patient who presented with sudden-onset chest pain lasting for 1 hour.
