Aim: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a common comorbidity among acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) patients undergoing reperfusion therapies, including intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). Acknowledging CKD's prevalence in this cohort and understanding its influence on outcomes is crucial for prognosis and optimizing care. This study aims to determine the prevalence of CKD among anterior circulation AIS (acAIS) patients undergoing reperfusion therapies and to analyse the role of CKD in mediating outcomes.

Background: Heart failure concomitant with prolactinoma is extremely rare.
Case Summary: We present the case of a 29-year-old man who had acute decompensated heart failure concomitant with visual loss in his right eye. Transthoracic echocardiography indicated severely decreased left ventricular (LV) function.

Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is an important and preventable cause of morbidity and mortality among children and young adults in low-income and middle-income countries, as well as among certain at-risk populations living in high-income countries. The 2012 World Heart Federation echocardiographic criteria provided a standardized approach for the identification of RHD and facilitated an improvement in early case detection. The 2012 criteria were used to define disease burden in numerous epidemiological studies, but researchers and clinicians have since highlighted limitations that have prompted a revision.

Pulmonary reperfusion injury is a well-recognised clinical entity in the setting pulmonary artery angioplasty for pulmonary artery stenosis or chronic thromboembolic disease, but not much is known about this complication in post-palliative intervention of oligaemic cyanotic CHD. The pathophysiology of pulmonary reperfusion injury in this population consists of both ischaemic and reperfusion injury, mainly resulting in oxidative stress from reactive oxygen species generation, followed by endothelial dysfunction, and cytokine storm that may induce multiple organ dysfunction. Other mechanisms of pulmonary reperfusion injury are "no-reflow" phenomenon, overcirculation from high pressure in pulmonary artery, and increased left ventricular end-diastolic pressure.

Background: The prognostic value of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) across body mass index (BMI) categories in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is unclear. We aimed to assess the predictive value of NT-proBNP levels and identify the best cutoff values for mortality risk prediction across BMI categories in AMI.
Methods: We analyzed 4677 patients with AMI from the Cardiovascular Centre Beijing Friendship Hospital Database Bank.

Objective: Placental growth factor (PlGF), an important polypeptide hormone, plays an important regulatory role in various physiological processes. Observational studies have shown that PlGF is associated with the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). However, the causal association between PlGF and CHD is unclear at present.

Aim: Omega-3 fatty acids have emerged as a new option for controlling the residual risk for coronary artery disease (CAD) in the statin era. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is associated with reduced CAD risk in the Reduction of Cardiovascular Events with Icosapent Ethyl-Intervention trial, whereas the Statin Residual Risk with Epanova in High Cardiovascular Risk Patients with Hypertriglyceridemia trial that used the combination EPA/docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has failed to derive any clinical benefit. These contradictory results raise important questions about whether investigating the antiatherosclerotic effect of omega-3 fatty acids could help to understand their significance for CAD-risk reduction.

Nanoprecipitation, which is achieved through the diffusion and precipitation of drug molecules in blended solvent and antisolvent phases, is a classic route for constructing nanodrugs (NDs) and previously directed by diffusion-controlled theory. However, the diffusion-controlled mechanism is out of date in the recent preparation of self-delivery supramolecular NDs (SDSNDs), characterized by the construction of drug nanoparticles through supramolecular interactions in the absence of carriers and surfactants. Herein, a "reaction"-like complement, contributed from supramolecular interactions, is proposed for the preparation of naphthoquinone SDSNDs.

The devastating impact of a circumflex coronary artery (CX) injury during mitral valve (MV) surgery is well reported. Despite significant improvements in preoperative risk assessment, intraoperative diagnosis and perioperative treatment strategies of CX injury during MV surgery, recent reports re-emphasize the variability in presentation, the unpredictable mechanisms of injury and the conflicting evidence regarding perioperative management. The progressive transition from conventional sternotomy access to minimally invasive surgical and transcatheter (TC) interventions for MV disease are associated with significant learning curves and require additional single-shaft and robotic console suture manipulation skills with special attentiveness to the potential risk of CX injury.

Introduction: Hypertension, a leading cause of death, was investigated in this study to understand the role of specific brain regions in regulating blood pressure. The lateral parabrachial nucleus (LPBN), Kolliker-fuse nucleus (KF), and periductal grey matter (PAG) were examined for their involvement in hypertension.
Methods: Lentiviral vectors were used to alter the activity of these brain regions in hypertensive rats.

Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) reduces mortality and morbidity in coronary heart disease (CHD); however, patients show a lack of adherence to CR. Alternatively, telehealth interventions have shown promising results for improving target outcomes in CR. This study aimed to review the effect of smartphone-based CR on the functional capacity of CHD patients.

There are few reports on short-term changes in renal function after surgical aortic valve replacement, and data are scarce regarding its impact on long-term outcomes. This is a retrospective study of patients who underwent isolated aortic valve replacement between 2009 and 2020 in four medical centers. Patients with end-stage renal disease were excluded.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is commonly used in several chemotherapies to treat various cancers, but it is known to cause cardiotoxicity and cardiac symptoms. Autonomic dysfunction is thought to contribute to the cardiotoxic effects of DOX, but the specific dose required to disrupt homeostatic processes is still unclear and is influenced by numerous factors. This study aimed to investigate how the DOX dosage affects autonomic function and physiological parameters, to elucidate the neurocardiac mechanisms underlying the observed cardiovascular side effects.

Background: Infective endocarditis is a rare but serious disease with high morbidity and mortality due to its potential life-threatening complications. Gerbode defect is an anomalous connection between the left ventricle and the right atrium that can be either congenital or acquired, with previous rare reports following abscess formation in infective endocarditis.
Case Summary: A 27-year-old woman presented in hospital with Janeway lesions, stroke, splenic and hepatic abscesses, and transient complete auriculoventricular block.

Aims: Multiple prediction score models have been validated to predict major adverse events in patients with heart failure. However, these scores do not include variables related to the type of follow-up. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a protocol-based follow-up programme of patients with heart failure regarding scores accuracy for predicting hospitalizations and mortality occurring during the first year after hospital discharge.
