Objective: Vulvovaginal atrophy is a condition closely related to low circulating estrogen levels, with post-menopause being the main cause. However, patients of childbearing age may also present with these symptoms due to treatments that reduce estrogen production. Local estrogen therapy is the causal treatment of local symptoms, but it is not always accepted and is often abandoned by patients.

The continuous spread of carbapenem-resistant (CP-Kp) strains presents a severe challenge to the healthcare system due to limited therapeutic options and high mortality. Since its availability, ceftazidime/avibactam (C/A) has become a first-line option against KPC-Kp, but C/A-resistant strains have been reported increasingly, especially with pneumonia or prior suboptimal blood exposure to C/A treatment. A retrospective, observational study was conducted with all patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) dedicated to COVID-19 patients at the City of Health & Sciences in Turin, between 1 May 2021 and 31 January 2022, with the primary endpoint to study strains with resistance to C/A, and secondly to describe the characteristics of this population, with or without previous exposure to C/A.

Background: In patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of the culprit lesion significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular death. However, the management of non-culprit lesions in patients with the multivessel disease remains a matter of debate in this setting. It's still unclear if a morphological OCT-guided approach, identifying coronary plaque instability, may provide a more specific treatment compared with a standard angiographic/functional approach.

This contribution lays the foundation for the European database of explanted UHMWPE liners from total joint replacements. Three EU countries (Czech Republic, Italy and Spain) have joined their datasets containing anonymized patient data (such as age and BMI), manufacturer data (such as information on UHMWPE crosslinking, thermal treatment and sterilization), orthopedic evaluation (such as total duration of the implant in vivo and reasons for its revision) and material characterization (such as oxidative degradation and micromechanical properties). The joined database contains more than 500 entries, exhibiting gradual growth, and it is beginning to show interesting trends, which are discussed in our contribution, including (i) strong correlations between UHMWPE oxidative degradation, degree of crystallinity and microhardness; (ii) statistically significant differences between UHMWPE liners with different types of sterilization; (iii) realistic correlations between the extent of oxidative degradation and the observed reasons for total joint replacement failures.

Prostate cancer (PC) is a hormone-sensitive tumor. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the cornerstone of systemic therapy for patients with intermediate or high-risk localized, recurrent, and metastatic prostate cancer. Although generally well tolerated, ADT can lead to short- and long-term adverse events that can worsen the quality of life of patients with PC.

Background: is a group of ubiquitous bacteria known to cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised hosts, including those affected by malignancies and solid-organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplants. Pulmonary involvement, occurring in two-thirds of cases, is the most frequent presentation. Diagnosis might be challenging both because of microbiological technical issues, but also because of the variability of organ involvement and mimicry.

In recent years, significant changes have occurred in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) management, where docetaxel and new androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPI) have been shown to improve overall survival (OS) compared to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Recent data could once again radically change mHSPC treatment. PEACE-1 and ARASENS trials demonstrated a survival benefit of the addition of ARPI to docetaxel and ADT combination (triplet therapy), compared to docetaxel and ADT.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional disorder characterized by abdominal pain associated with changes in stool frequency or form, in absence of organic disease. The treatment of IBS is often challenging and should be individually adjusted according to the prevalent symptomatology. Pharmacological treatment for IBS with diarrhea includes peripheral opioid agonists, bile acid sequestrants and antibiotics, while IBS with constipation can be treated with soluble fibers, osmotic agents or prokinetics.

In the last fifteen years a better understanding of the biological processes promoting tumour growth and progression led to an impressive revolution in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) treatment landscape. Angiogenesis plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of RCC. These biological evidences led to targeted therapies interfering with vascular endothelial growth factor and mammalian target of rapamycin pathway.
