Acetabular paralabral cysts are common. They vary in their clinical presentation and may be asymptomatic or cause pain and restriction at the hip joint. In rare instances they may cause symptoms by compressing local neurovascular structures.

Background: Hallux valgus is a common condition with in excess of 120 procedures described in the literature for its correction. Traditionally, distal metatarsal osteotomies have been employed in the treatment of mild deformities, with proximal osteotomies being reserved for more severe presentations. The Scarf osteotomy without internal fixation allows large translations which can successfully correct severe hallux valgus deformities, without limitations related to screw placement.

Objective: Hyaluronic acid (HA) is increasingly used by musculoskeletal radiologists in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). Although the evidence base for its efficacy is controversial, it remains in common use. With initial evidence suggesting its efficacy in the knee, it is now offered for treating OA of the hip, ankle, and elsewhere.

Unfortunately, patient recall after the consent process is frequently poor. This study aims to evaluate the effect of procedure-specific consent forms on patient's recall four weeks after total hip replacement (THR).

Objective: The objective of our study was to correlate patterns of injury on preprocedural MRI with outcome after targeted fluoroscopy-guided steroid and local anesthetic injection of the symphysis pubis and its muscular attachments in a group of athletes with chronic groin pain.
Materials And Methods: Forty-five patients with chronic sports-related groin pain underwent MRI of the pelvis and a targeted fluoroscopy-guided symphyseal corticosteroid and local anesthetic injection. Preprocedural MRI was reviewed.

Background: Minimally invasive surgery is being used increasingly, including for hallux valgus surgery. Despite the growing interest in minimally invasive procedures, there have been few publications on percutaneous chevron/akin (PECA) procedures, and no studies have been published comparing PECA to open scarf/akin osteotomies (SA).
Methods: This was a prospective, randomized study of 50 patients undergoing operative correction of hallux valgus using one of 2 techniques (PECA vs open SA).

Revision hip arthroplasty requires comprehensive appreciation of abnormal bony anatomy. Advances in radiology and manufacturing technology have made three-dimensional (3D) representation of osseous anatomy obtainable, which provide visual and tactile feedback. Such life-size 3D models were manufactured from computed tomography scans of three hip joints in two patients.

Herniation pits are small benign lucent oval lesions within the anterior aspect of the superolateral femoral neck and were first described in 1982 by Michael J. Pitt. They are widely believed to occur as a result of mechanical forces from the overlying capsule resulting in herniation of soft tissues and synovium through a small bony defect.

Some decellularized musculoskeletal extracellular matrices (ECM)s derived from tissues such as bone, tendon and fibrocartilaginous meniscus have already been clinical use for tissue reconstruction. Repair of articular cartilage with its unique zonal ECM architecture and composition is still an unsolved problem, and the question is whether allogenic or xenogeneic decellularized cartilage ECM could serve as a biomimetic scaffold for this purpose.Hence, this survey outlines the present state of preparing decellularized cartilage ECM-derived scaffolds or composites for reconstruction of different cartilage types and of reseeding it particularly with mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs).

Aim: To evaluate the effect of body mass index (BMI) on short-term functional outcome and complications in primary total knee arthroplasty.
Methods: All patients undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty at a single institution between 2007 and 2013 were identified from a prospective arthroplasty database. 2180 patients were included in the study.

Unlabelled: Local anesthetic use for wound infusions, single injection, and continuous nerve blocks for postoperative analgesia is well established. No study has investigated the effect of a continuous block of the saphenous and superficial peroneal nerves at the level of the ankle joint following first ray surgery. A double blind randomized controlled trial was designed.

Background: Direct to consumer (DTC) advertising, targeting the public over the physician, is an increasingly pervasive presence in medical clinics. It is trending toward a format of online interaction rather than that of traditional print and television advertising.
Methods: We analyze patient-focused Web pages from the top 5 companies supplying prostheses for total hip arthroplasties, comparing them to the top 10 independent medical websites.

Much research is currently ongoing into new therapies for cartilage defect repair with new biomaterials frequently appearing which purport to have significant regenerative capacity. These biomaterials may be classified as medical devices, and as such must undergo rigorous testing before they are implanted in humans. A large part of this testing involves in vitro trials and biomechanical testing.

The authors present a case of bilateral total hip replacements (THRs) in a 56-year-old patient with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC). The considerations for the perioperative period and the outcome are discussed. Preoperative planning included an anaesthetic review and availability of fiberoptic intubation due to poor mouth opening.

With an aging population, degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS) leading to neurogenic intermittent claudication (NIC) is a growing problem. For patients suffering from this condition, interspinous process distraction devices (IPDs) offer an effective and cheap alternative to conservative or decompressive surgery. Aperius is one such device that has been gaining popularity for its percutaneous insertion under local anesthetic, short operative time, and low risk of complications.

The art of symphysiotomy for delivery in the instance of cephalopelvic disproportion has been a dying art since the advent of caesarean section but in Ireland this surgical procedure was not abolished until 1992. This practice is still present in the developing world and in some circumstances used in developed countries. This study offers some insights on the 40-year follow-up of patients who had undergone symphysiotomy.
