J Appl Microbiol

March 2022

Engineering Faculty, Department of Food Engineering, Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are compounds, which have inhibitory activity against microorganisms. In the last decades, AMPs have become powerful alternative agents that have met the need for novel anti-infectives to overcome increasing antibiotic resistance problems. Moreover, recent epidemics and pandemics are increasing the popularity of AMPs, due to the urgent necessity for effective antimicrobial agents in combating the new emergence of microbial diseases.

Recombinant expression and coexpression of oyster defensin and proline-rich peptide in Komagataella phaffii.

Biotechnol Appl Biochem

October 2022

Faculty of Engineering, Food Engineering Department, Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey.

Proline-rich peptide (CgPrp) and defensin (CgDef), oyster (Crassostrea gigas)-originated antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), were produced by the recombinant technique in Komagataella phaffii GS115 cells. For this purpose, the nucleotide sequences encoding the CgPrp and CgDef peptides were synthesized by the recursive PCR technique, and ligated in pPICZaA expression vector. Additionally, the expression cassettes of pPICZαA-CgDef and pPICZαA-CgPrp were combined using in vitro multimer ligation strategy to construct the coexpression vector pPICZaA-CgPrp-CgDef.

In the title compound, CHNO, pairs of mol-ecules are linked into dimers by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming an (12) ring motif, with the dimers stacked along the axis. These dimers are connected through π-π stacking inter-actions between the centroids of the benzene and furan rings of their 2,3-di-hydro-1-benzo-furan ring systems. Furthermore, there exists a C-H⋯π inter-action that consolidates the crystal packing.

Introduction: Accurate measurement of blood pressure (BP) is difficult in obese patients due to their upper arm shape and width. Errors made during BP measurement cause misdiagnosis or lead to wrong treatment.

Method: The data of this methodological study were collected from 40 patients who were 18 years old or above, with a BMI above 25 kg/m2, and who were followed up with radial catheter arterial pressure in adult intensive care and postoperative care units between March and December 2020.

Investigations of antiproliferative and antioxidant activity of β-lactam morpholino-1,3,5-triazine hybrids.

Bioorg Med Chem

April 2020

Center for Molecular Diversity in Drug Design, Discovery, and Delivery, Department of Chemistry, CHE 205, 4202 East Fowler Avenue, University of South Florida, Tampa, FL 33620, USA.

This article reports for the first time the synthesis of some novel β-lactam morpholino-1,3,5-triazine hybrids by a [2+2]-cycloaddition reaction of imines 7a-c, 9a-c and 11 with ketenes derived from substituted acetic acids. The reaction was totally diastereoselective, leading exclusively to the formation of cis-β-lactams 8a-l, 10a-f and 12a-c. The synthesized compounds were tested for activity towards SW1116, MCF-7 and HepG2 cancer cell lines and non-cancerous HEK-293 cell line by MTT assay.
