The mitochondrial receptor protein FUN14 domain-containing-1 (FUNDC1) can induce mitophagy under hypoxic conditions, as well as playing important roles in normal metabolism and intracellular homeostasis. Exercise not only elevates mitochondrial biosynthesis, but also exerts a significant impact on mitochondrial fission, integration and mitophagy. However, it is still not clear whether FUNDC1 plays a regulatory role in this context.

Fatty acid synthase (FAS) is highly expressed in human adipocytes and cancer cells and is considered as a dual therapeutic target for obesity and cancer treatment. Garcinone E is a natural xanthone and exists in the pericarp of . In previous studies, xanthones were reported to be highly active inhibitors of FAS.

Baduanjin Mind-Body Intervention Improves the Executive Control Function.

Front Psychol

January 2017

Beijing Key Lab of Physical Fitness Evaluation and Tech Analysis, Key Laboratory of Sports Ability Evaluation and Research Comprehensive Laboratory of General Administration of Sport, Capital University of Physical Education and Sports Beijing, China.

This study aims at comparing the effects of the Baduanjin mind-body (BMB) intervention with a conventional relaxation training program on enhancing the executive function. The study also attempts to explore the neural substrates underlying the cognitive effect of BMB intervention using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technique. Forty-two healthy college students were randomly allocated into either the Baduanjin intervention group or relaxation training (control) group.

Brain Functional Connectivity Is Different during Voluntary Concentric and Eccentric Muscle Contraction.

Front Physiol

November 2016

Human Performance and Engineering Research, Kessler Foundation West Orange, NJ, USA.

Previous studies report greater activation in the cortical motor network in controlling eccentric contraction (EC) than concentric contraction (CC) of human skeletal muscles despite lower activation level of the muscle associated with EC. It is unknown, however, whether the strength of functional coupling between the primary motor cortex (M1) and other involved areas in the brain differs as voluntary movements are controlled by a network of regions in the primary, secondary and association cortices. Examining fMRI-based functional connectivity (FC) offers an opportunity to measure strength of such coupling.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of PKA and neural tube defects (NTDs) in Chinese population.

Method: A total of 183 NTDs cases and 200 healthy controls were used in this study. 7 selected single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) sites in the PKA gene were analyzed with MassArray high-throughput DNA analyzer with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry.
