Introduction: Despite the acknowledged interconnection between socioeconomic environment and economic crime, research on the relationship between Goods and Services Tax (GST) and economic crime is scarce because of their complicated relationship. This study examines the impact of the GST increase on the illicit tobacco trade.

Methods: Based on China's tobacco excise tax shock in 2015, this study employs a difference-in-difference (DID) method to analyze the impact of the GST increase on economic crime.

Parental history of schizophrenia, a complex and multifaceted psychological disorder, is recognized as a well-established risk factor in the development of the disorder among offspring. However, the developmental patterns of such children and adolescents before the onset of the problem have not yet been systematically documented. We present a comprehensive account of developmental checkpoints essential for preventing it from occurring.

A qualitative analysis of the communication process of subway teams was performed from the perspective of cognitive psychology in this study. The findings revealed that the communication process exhibited characteristics consistent with a Markov process, and then a model was approved to calculate the probability of miscommunication based on Markov processes. As communication within subway teams is a two-way process, a model for the dynamic probability of miscommunication based on the Markov two-way communication mode was derived.

The main advantages of microneedles are precise drug delivery through human skin, minimal tissue damage and painlessness. We conducted structural analysis and skin puncture studies of hollow microneedles using ANSYS for three materials: Hafnium Dioxide (HfO), Polyglycolic acid (PGA) and Polylactic acid (PLA). Firstly, we selected three lengths, three tip diameters and three base diameters to conduct a L(3) orthogonal experiment.

How to utilize modern technological means to provide both accurate scoring and objective feedback for martial arts movements has become an issue that needs to be addressed in the field of physical education. This study proposes an intelligent scoring method based on machine learning. Firstly, the key features are extracted by the feature alignment technique, which eliminates the influence of athletes' movement speed, rhythm and duration on the scoring, thus reflecting the athletes' skill level more realistically.

Flexible micro-sensors have significant application potential in the field of sports performance evaluation. The aim of this study is to assess sports performance by grip pressure using a MMSS sensor (MXene as the sensitive material and melamine sponge as the substrate, a type of flexible piezoresistive pressure sensor). The grip pressures of expert and amateur players are evaluated in single skills events (golf, billiards, basketball, javelin and shot put) and in skills conversion (badminton and tennis).

The development of genome technology has opened new possibilities for comparative primate genomics. Non-human primates share approximately 98% genome similarity and provides vital information into the genetic similarities and variances among species utilized as disease models. DNA study links unique genetic variations to common facial attributes such as nose and eyes.

The dynamic behavior of articular cartilage (a soft porous biological tissue) with strain-dependent nonlinear permeability under cyclic compressive loading and magnetic field is investigated computationally. The compressive force is applied on top surface of the cylindrical plug of the tissue by means of a porous filter. The study of mechanical and deformational behavior of soft porous tissues such as articular cartilage under dynamic compressive loading and magnetic field is useful in understanding the underlying mechano-biological process that may lead to the development of a treatment and recovery protocol in a diseased state.

Digital transformation is crucial for sustainable development of enterprises and for addressing the conundrum of "efficiency and environment". Utilizing a dataset from A-share listed companies in China from 2007 to 2021, this paper investigates the direct impact, underlying mechanism and driving effect of enterprise digital transformation on carbon emission intensity. The findings reveal that: (1) At this stage, digital transformation in listed companies effectively reduces their carbon intensity, but the relationship between the two is not linear; instead, it exhibits a U-shaped trajectory, initially decreasing then increasing.

Background: The economic functions of families are strengthened by the labor supply of family members. However, an in-depth discussion can still be held on the impact of the labor supply of family members on the non-economic functions of families, such as residential, social and psychological functions. This paper sought to understand the household non-economic welfare of women's working hours.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) makes it possible to transmit information in real time between vehicles, providing a modern approach for autonomous driving, traffic safety, and other applications. Roadside units (RSUs) contribute to the enhancement of IoV's reliability and transmission efficiency, while mitigating the impact of low IoV penetration. The objective of RSU deployment optimization is to minimize the total cost with the premise of ensuring IoV reliability.

Numerous studies have demonstrated the positive effects of exercise as a non-pharmacological treatment for hypertensive patients. However, there was a relative lack of research analyzing the effects of different exercise doses on hypertensive individuals. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of different exercise doses on blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) in hypertensive patients through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

The effect of sports participation on the social identity of Chinese university students.

Front Psychol

November 2024

Department of Sport Studies, Faculty of Educational Studies, University Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Malaysia.

Objective: Strengthening youth sports and comprehensively promoting the participation of Chinese university students in sports to enhance their social acceptance are key initiatives for delivering high-quality talent for China's economic and social development.

Methods: Using the China Comprehensive Social Survey as the data source and considering social mentality and social identity, we constructed corresponding statistical models to explore how sports participation influences the social identity (class identity, economic status, and emotional belonging) of Chinese university students.

Results: Regarded from a holistic perspective, sports participation can enhance the social identity of college students in all its aspects, and the benefits of sports participation are positively related to its frequency.

Background: Although previous studies have shown that athletes engaged in endurance sports exhibit unique characteristics of brain plasticity, there has been no systematic investigation into the structural and functional brain characteristics of endurance athletes with varying training levels.

Methods: Utilizing the "expert-novice paradigm" design, we employed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to obtain images of brain structure and functional activity. We compared differences in gray matter volume (GMV), fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF), and degree centrality (DC) among high-level endurance athletes, moderate-level endurance athletes, and non-athlete controls.

Quality of education, ageing and labor productivity.

PLoS One

December 2024

National Academy of Innovation Strategy, China Association for Science and Technology, Beijing, China.

With the decrease in fertility rate and the extension of life expectancy, China's ageing degree is deepening, and there is a decrease in the number of labor force individuals, leading to an increase in the burden of old-age care and constraining economic growth. The improvement of human capital can promote economic growth. Research is rquired to determine whether factors such as the teacher-student ratio (quality of education) and the average number of years of schooling (quantity of education) can help alleviate the negative impacts of ageing.
