Background: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) was once considered a contraindication for laparoscopic surgery, but it is becoming more common to use laparoscopic surgery for GBC treatment. The aim of this study was to analyze the long- and short-term outcomes of patients with more advanced T-staged GBC treated with curative intent as defined by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) after laparoscopic resection (LR) versus open resection (OR).
Methods: A multicenter database was used to select consecutive GBC patients treated with curative-intent resection as defined by the NCCN between 2016 and 2020.

Delirium in critical ill patients is a complex and common neurological syndrome in the intensive care unit (ICU) that is caused by a range of structural or functional abnormalities. ICU Delirium is associated with reduced compliance, prolonged hospital stays, greater use or delayed withdrawal of sedatives, higher rates and durations of mechanical ventilation, and higher rates of mortality. The aetiology and pathogenesis of ICU delirium are unclear, and the lack of better prediction, prevention, and treatment measures leads to a non-standardized control of delirium.

Background: Chemokines and cytokines are components of the tumor microenvironment and also influence tumorigenesis and its composition. However, whether they genetically proxy tumorigenesis is unclear. For causal inferences, eQTL and pQTL were used to determine the role of chemokines and cytokines in pan-cancer.

Forming the data of publication of each database through 13 September 2022, PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were surveyed. A total of seven meta-analyses were included in the umbrella review.

High-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (HAMN) has been separated from appendiceal adenocarcinoma recently as an independent entity and categorized into appendiceal mucinous neoplasms. These neoplasms demonstrate distinct histological characteristics, including architectures and appendiceal mural changes similar to low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm but with high-grade cytology, and no infiltrative invasion. Overt mucinous feature are not evident in some cases as the high-grade neoplastic epithelium may show intracytoplasmic mucin reduction.

Objectives: With the widespread clinical application of prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), there has been an increasing demand for lesion detection and accurate diagnosis in prostate MR, which relies heavily on satisfactory image quality. Focusing on the primary sequences involved in Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS), this study have evaluated common quality issues in clinical practice (such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), artifacts, boundaries, and enhancement). The aim of the study was to determine the impact of image quality on clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) detection, positive predictive value (PPV) and radiologist's diagnosis in different sequences and prostate zones.

Introduction: Anastomotic leakage (AL) is defined as the failure of complete healing or disruption of the anastomosis subsequent to rectal cancer surgery, resulting in the extravasation of intestinal contents into the intra-abdominal or pelvic cavity. It is a serious complication of rectal cancer surgery, accounting for a considerable increase in morbidity and mortality. The use of fluorescence imaging technology in surgery allows surgeons to better evaluate blood perfusion.

Helminths produce calreticulin (CRT) to immunomodulate the host immune system as a survival strategy. However, the structure of helminth-derived CRT and the structural basis of the immune evasion process remains unclarified. Previous study found that the tissue-dwelling helminth produces calreticulin (TsCRT), which binds C1q to inhibit activation of the complement classical pathway.

Background And Purpose: Acute mountain sickness is a series of brain-centered symptoms that occur when rapidly ascending to high altitude. Predicting acute mountain sickness before high-altitude exposure is crucial for protecting susceptible individuals. The present study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of predicting acute mountain sickness after high-altitude exposure by using multimodal brain MR imaging features measured at sea level.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) represents a diverse range of conditions characterized by high incidence and mortality rates, and it is mainly associated with immune-mediated mechanisms and mitochondrial metabolism dysfunction. Cuproptosis, a recently identified form of programmed cell death dependent on copper, is closely linked to mitochondrial respiration and contributes to various diseases. Our study aimed to investigate the involvement of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in AKI.

Background: To explore whether postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) has an impact on the incidence of late atrial fibrillation (AF) and late ischemic stroke after isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) compared to non-POAF patients.
Methods: A total of 243 eligible patients were followed for five years, and divided into a POAF group (n = 69) and a non-POAF group (n = 174). The primary end point was the incidence of late AF, and late ischemic stroke.

Germline mutation has been reported to be associated with subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) leading to Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Several studies have indicated that mutation can cause HLH even in the absence of lymphoma, though the exact mechanism remains unclear. In this article, we reported five cases of mutation-associated HLH.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association between novel inflammatory markers (NIMs) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Methods: A total of 6306 subjects were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. NIMs, including neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR), lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI), were calculated.

Background: Left atrial flutter without prior cardiac interventions is uncommon, especially dual-loop macro-reentry atrial flutter. The critical step to ablate dual-loop macro-reentry atrial flutter is to identify the dominant loop and key isthmus. Although entrainment mapping could help identify the dominant loop and key isthmus, it may alter or terminate tachycardia.

Patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) are particularly vulnerable to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and are at increased risk of developing severe infection. However, given the exclusion of such patients from clinical trials, there are limited data regarding the effectiveness of the antiviral drug nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (N/R) in patients on HD. We prescribed N/R to 4 patients on HD with COVID-19 after obtaining informed consent.

Background: Cholecystectomy, hepatectomy, and lymphadenectomy are recommended as the curative treatment for resectable gallbladder cancer (GBC). Textbook outcomes in liver surgery (TOLS) is a novel composite measure that has been defined by expert consensus to represent the optimal postoperative course after hepatectomy. This study aimed to determine the incidence of TOLS and the independent predictors associated with TOLS after curative-intent resection in GBC patients.

Shock is the clinical manifestation of acute circulatory failure, which results in inadequate utilization of cellular oxygen. It is a common condition with high mortality rates in intensive care units. The intravenous administration of Shenfu Injection (SFI) may attenuate inflammation, regulate hemodynamics and oxygen metabolism; inhibit ischemia-reperfusion responses; and have adaptogenic and antiapoptotic effects.
