Objective: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a complex cardiovascular syndrome. Along with pro-inflammatory and metabolic factors, epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is believed to play a key role in the pathogenesis of HFpEF. Studies have increasingly shown a critical role of circRNAs in the development of cardiovascular diseases; however, their role in the pathogenetic mechanism of HFpEF is not well characterized.

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a highly prevalent cardiac arrhythmia that affects approximately 1-2% of the general population. The mechanism of AF pathogenesis remains unclear. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), a metabolically active visceral fat depot surrounding the heart, has been shown to be closely related to AF.

In blood vessels, endothelial cells (ECs) grow along the direction of blood flow, while smooth muscle cells (SMCs) grow circumferentially along the vessel wall. To mimic this structure, a polycaprolactone (PCL) tubular scaffold with orthogonally oriented bilayer nanofibers was prepared electrospinning and winding. ECs were cultured on the inner layer of the scaffold with axial nanofibers and SMCs were cultured on the outer layer of the scaffold with circumferential nanofibers.

Poor viability of transplanted mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) within the ischemic heart has limited their therapeutic potential for cardiac repair. We have previously shown that adiponectin (APN) treatment inhibits MSCs apoptosis under ischemic conditions . In this study, we investigated whether APN promoted the survival of MSCs and further contributed to cardiac repair in a rat model of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by activating the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway.

Aim: Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) exert cardioprotective effects on myocardial infarction (MI). In this investigation, we elucidated the protective effects of BMMSCs-exosomes (Exo) expressing microRNA-30e (miR-30e) against heart failure (HF) in MI rats.

Methods: First, the differentially expressed miRNAs were analyzed using a miRNA-based microarray of MI.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a leading health issue globally, compounded by a high rate of coexisting mental illnesses that affects patient prognosis.
  • Current treatments for CVD, including medication and surgery, often fall short, highlighting the need for integrated approaches that address both cardiovascular and mental health issues.
  • Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) are emerging as a potential innovative treatment in psychocardiology due to their ethical advantages and low immunogenicity, with ongoing research aimed at understanding their clinical applications.

A CRISPR/Cas9 system has emerged as a powerful tool for gene editing to treat genetic mutation related diseases. Due to the complete endothelial barrier, effective delivery of the CRISPR/Cas9 system to vasculatures remains a challenge for in vivo gene editing of genetic vascular diseases especially in aorta. Herein, it is reported that CHO-PGEA (cholesterol (CHO)-terminated ethanolamine-aminated poly(glycidyl methacrylate)) with rich hydroxyl groups can deliver a plasmid based pCas9-sg1 system for the knockout of exon 10 in 1 gene.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a lethal idiopathic interstitial pulmonary disease characterized by progressive deterioration in lung function that commonly affects eldly people. The pathogenesis of the disease is incompletely understood and therefore lacking effective therapy. Ouabain a digitalis has been reported to be able to suppress lung fibroblast activation via downregulating TGF-β-smad signal pathway .

Metastasis-associated antigen 1 (MTA1) is a chromatin modifier mediating DNA modification and gene expression. Ku70/Ku80 complex has been reported to be essential in DNA damage response. In an effort to explore the MTA1 interactome, we captured the Ku70/Ku80 complex with two specific MTA1 antibodies in a colon cancer cell line.

A number of patients with diabetes suffer from retinopathy; the pathogenesis is to be further investigated. Recent reports indicate that micro RNA (miR) plays critical roles in the development of immune inflammation. This study test a hypothesis that miR-17-92 cluster is associated with the pathogenesis of diabetes retinopathy (DR).

Department of Stomatology,Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University Beijing 100029,China.

Objective: To investigate the feasibility of periodontal mechanical therapy for chronic periodontitis and coronary heart disease patients with low dose of aspirin.

Methods: Sixty nine chronic periodontitis patients with coronary heart disease were randomly selected as the experimental group (medication group, group A), the control group (withdrawal group, group B) including 20 chronic periodontitis patients with coronary artery disease, stopping the drug for one week and another control group with 50 chronic periodontitis patients (group C). The three groups were examined with pocket probing, and received supragingival scaling, subgingival scaling, and root planning.

Atherosclerosis is an immune-mediated inflammatory process, which acts as the main cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Regulatory CD4+CD25+FOXP3+T cells (Tregs) are thought to play a major role in inhibiting the formation and progression of atherosclerosis. However, the exact role played by Tregs in the pathogenesis of ACS is yet remained unclear.

This study aims to explore the treatment methods for patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) that required occlusion of the openings of the bilateral internal iliac arteries (IIAs) in endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and to evaluate the efficacy of these treatments. Four patients with AAA were treated with endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and the crossover chimney technique in the bilateral internal iliac arteries (IIAs). We inserted and released the abdominal aortic stent as usual and implanted the bypass stent graft simultaneously.

Zinc finger protein, X-linked (ZFX) gene locus on the human X chromosome is structurally similar to the zinc finger protein, Y-linked gene. Its role in human laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is still not clearly defined. This study was focused on investigating the role of zinc-finger protein X-linked (ZFX) in human LSCC.

Background: Compared with non-reversible, indirect P2Y12 inhibitor clopidogrel, ticagrelor is a reversible, direct acting inhibitor. The CYP2C19*2 allele is a common genetic variant in individuals that need given higher clopidogrel in acute coronary syndrome patients.

Objective: We aimed to assess a pharmacogenetic approach of doubling dose clopidogrel compare with standard dose of ticagrelor among carriers with the CYP2C19*2 homozygotes.

Autophagy involving age-related cognitive behavior and hippocampus injury is modulated by different caloric intake in mice.

Int J Clin Exp Med

September 2015

Department of Central Laboratory, Xuan Wu Hospital, Capital Medical University, Key Laboratory for Neurodegenerative Disease of Ministry of Education, Beijing Geriatric Medical Research Center, Center of Alzheimer's Disease, Beijing Institute for Brain Disorders Beijing 100053, China.

Recent studies indicated that different caloric intake may influence neuronal function. Excessive caloric intake associated with accelerated aging of the brain and increased the risk of neurodegenerative disorders. And low caloric intake (caloric restriction, CR) could delay aging, and protect the central nervous system from neurodegenerative disorders.
