Background: It is uncertain whether the effect of hyperglycemia on mortality among patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) could be adjusted by other modifiable risk factors. Greater body mass index (BMI) might enhance the effect of fasting blood glucose (FPG) on cardiovascular mortality in patients with ACS.
Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients admitted for ACS from 2008 to 2017 in Beijing and divided them into three BMI groups (normal weight ≤ 25 kg/m, overweight 25-29.

Introduction: Physical activity (PA) can improve cardiac function, exercise capacity, and quality of life, in addition to reducing mortality by 20%-30% and preventing the recurrence of adverse cardiovascular events in patients following coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). However, PA levels are low in patients after CABG. This study intends to explore the mediating effect of kinesiophobia between self-efficacy and PA levels in patients following CABG.

Background: As an alternative method to evaluate insulin resistance (IR), triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) was shown to be related to the severity and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases. The main aim of this study was to explore the association between TyG and in-hospital mortality in critically ill patients with heart disease.
Method: The calculation method of TyG has been confirmed in previous report: Ln [fasting TGs (mg/dL) FBG (mg/dL)/2].

Atherosclerosis is characterized by the infiltration of macrophages, accumulation of lipids, activation of endothelial cells and synthesis of extracellular matrix by vascular smooth muscle cells. However, there have been few atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies of the aortic intima in situ in the context of atherosclerosis. By employing a customized liquid cell for AFM, we investigated the aortic intima obtained from male C57BL/6 ApoE-deficient mice (ApoE ) aged 14 weeks and male C57BL/6 ApoE-sufficient mice (ApoE ) aged between 18 and 26 weeks that were fed a high-fat and high-cholesterol diet for 4 weeks and performed force spectroscopy mapping of the biomechanical properties of the intima.

It has been discovered that both inflammation and platelet aggregation could cause crucial effect on the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases. As a combination of platelet and lymphocyte, platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) was proved to be correlated with the severity as well as prognosis of cardiovascular diseases. Exploring the relationship between PLR and in-hospital mortality in cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) patients was the purpose of this study.

Objectives: To summarise the surgical outcomes in patients with cardiogenic shock supported by preoperative extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
Methods: Between May 2012 and August 2017, eight patients with cardiogenic shock, who were supported by ECMO, underwent emergency surgery; four of them had isolated coronary artery bypass grafting, three had coronary artery bypass grafting with mitral replacement, and one had mitral valve replacement with left ventricular posterior wall repair.
Results: All eight patients were successfully weaned off from ECMO after their surgeries.

Advances in endovascular treatment of acute ischaemic stroke from intracranial large vessel occlusions have continued in the past decade. Here, we performed a detailed review of all the new trials and studies that had the highest evidence, the guidelines for mechanical thrombectomy, the selection of the particular population outside the guidelines and endovascular therapeutic strategies for acute ischemic stroke from occluded intracranial arteries.

Background: The posterior descending artery is the most common vessel chosen for an endarterectomy, while endarterectomy to the posterior descending artery is associated with decreased graft patency. The purpose of this study was to describe a distal anastomosis support (DAS) technique and retrospectively investigate the effect of DAS on the mid-term graft patency.
Methods: Between January 2016 and December 2018, 200 patients with a PDA severe lesion who underwent off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) with CE (OPCAB + CE group, = 95) and OPCAB + CE with DAS for anastomosis of PDA grafted by saphenous vein (SVG) (OPCAB + CE + DAS group, = 105) were evaluated retrospectively.

Background: Ventricular arrhythmia is a leading cause of cardiac death among patients with post-infarction left ventricular aneurysm (PI-LVA). The effect of coronary revascularization in PI-LVA patients with ventricular tachyarrhythmia remains unknown. This study aims to investigate the impact of revascularization therapy on clinical outcomes in these patients.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is recognised to be a potent risk factor for hypertension, coronary heart disease, strokes and heart failure with a reduced ejection fraction. However, the association between OSA and heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is less well recognised. Both conditions are very common globally.

Objectives: Takayasu's arteritis (TAK) is a chronic, large vessel systemic vasculitis. Immune inflammatory response plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of TAK. Natural killer (NK) cells are one of the major immunoregulatory cell groups of the immune system, but their role in TAK pathogenesis is unclear.

Objectives: Takayasu's arteritis (TAK) involves inflammatory vasculitis of large vessels and mainly affects the aorta and its major branches. Abnormal immunity may play a vital role in TAK pathogenesis. Regulatory T cells (Treg cells) are important for peripheral tolerance, but under certain conditions Treg cells can differentiate into Th-like cells that have lost immune suppressive function and promote the development of autoimmune diseases.

Background: Left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony (LVMD) is closely associated with left ventricular dysfunction and poor prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, whether mechanical dyssynchrony is present in the noninfarcted areas remains controversial. This research aimed to quantitatively evaluate the global and regional mechanical dyssynchrony early after AMI by phase analysis of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) gated myocardial perfusion imaging (GMPI) and to further explore the related influencing factors.
