Background: Social media is used as a tool for information exchange, entertainment, education, and intervention. Intervention efforts attempt to engage users in skin health.

Objective: This review aimed to collect and summarize research assessing the impact of social media on skin health promotion activities undertaken by social media users.

Background: Liver fibrosis is caused by chronic toxic or cholestatic liver injury. Fibrosis results from the recruitment of myeloid cells into the injured liver, the release of inflammatory and fibrogenic cytokines, and the activation of myofibroblasts, which secrete extracellular matrix, mostly collagen type I. Hepatic myofibroblasts originate from liver-resident mesenchymal cells, including HSCs and bone marrow-derived CD45+ collagen type I+ expressing fibrocytes.

Frequency of emergency medical service contacts after hospital admissions.

Identifying frequent users of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the post-discharge period can potentially direct interventions to prevent deterioration at home. This study aimed to describe the frequency of post-discharge emergency phone calls within 30 days after common medical and surgical categories of hospital admission. A retrospective cohort study retrieved data from the electronic medical record and the EMS Capital Region Denmark database after approval by the Danish Health Data Authority.

Introducing robot-assisted kidney transplantation in a high-volume centre in Denmark: a pilot and feasibility study.

Robot-assisted kidney transplantation (RAKT) may reduce surgical complications compared to open kidney transplantation (OKT), but no randomised trials have explored this to date. The aim of the present study is to explore the feasibility of introducing RAKT at our institution, making it available in deceased donor transplantation and evaluate early surgical outcomes prior to performing a randomised trial comparing RAKT to OKT. RAKT was performed at Department of Urology, Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, Denmark.

Exploring pet owners' attitudes toward compounded and human approved medicines: a questionnaire based pilot study.

With the growing global pet population and increased spending on veterinary care, compounded medications offer customized, often more suitable and affordable treatment options compared to the limited available veterinary medications. This research aims to understand pet owners' attitudes towards compounded medications, focusing on their challenges and needs. A total of 300 respondents from the territory of Novi Sad, province of Vojvodina, Republic of Serbia completed the questionnaire, through face-to-face interviews at veterinary clinics.

Antipyretic Effect of Dexibuprofen Versus Ibuprofen in Children With Fever Caused by Upper Respiratory Tract Infection.

Dexibuprofen is the pharmacologically active enantiomer of ibuprofen. However, its application as an antipyretic in children with fever caused by upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) requires more evidence. This study aimed to compare the antipyretic effect between dexibuprofen and ibuprofen in children with fever caused by URTI.

Background: The proportion and impact of minimal pleural effusion (PE) on prognosis remain blurred in operable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients who reported minimal PE on imaging.

Methods: Clinical and prognostic data of operable NSCLC patients who presented no distant metastasis, no direct pleural invasion, but minimal PE on preoperative imaging were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into surgical (81 cases) and non-surgical (10 cases) cohorts.

Good Practices for Health Technology Assessment Guideline Development: A Report of the Health Technology Assessment International, HTAsiaLink, and ISPOR Special Task Force.

Objectives: Health technology assessment (HTA) guidelines are intended to support the successful implementation of HTA by enhancing consistency and transparency in concepts, methods, processes, and use, thereby enhancing the legitimacy of the decision-making process. This report lays out good practices and practical recommendations for developing or updating HTA guidelines to ensure successful implementation.

Methods: The task force was established in 2022 and comprised experts and academics from various geographical regions, each with substantial experience in developing HTA guidelines for national health policy making.

In recent years, bone conduction intervention has emerged as a promising solution for patients with SSD, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional air conduction hearing aids.

Inter-city movement pattern of notifiable infectious diseases in China: a social network analysis.

Background: Co-existence of efficient transportation networks and geographic imbalance of medical resources greatly facilitated inter-city migration of patients of infectious diseases in China.

Methods: To characterize the migration patterns of major notifiable infectious diseases (NIDs) during 2016-2020 in China, we collected migratory cases, who had illness onset in one city but were diagnosed and reported in another, from the National Notifiable Infectious Disease Reporting System, and conducted a nationwide network analysis of migratory cases of major NIDs at the city (prefecture) level.

Findings: In total, 2,674,892 migratory cases of NIDs were reported in China during 2016-2020.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) as a preventable and potentially fatal noncommunicable disease was believed to have a lower incidence in Asian populations compared to Western populations. However, the incidence and mortality rates of PE in China and the impact of venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention system constructions on PE still lack nationwide evidence.

IL-12 family cytokines and autoimmune diseases: A potential therapeutic target?

In recent years, the discovery of IL-12 family cytokines, which includes IL-12, IL-23, IL-27, IL-35, and IL-39, whose biological functions directly or indirectly affect various autoimmune diseases. In autoimmune diseases, IL-12 family cytokines are aberrantly expressed to varying degrees. These cytokines utilize shared subunits to influence T-cell activation and differentiation, thereby regulating the balance of T-cell subsets, which profoundly impacts the onset and progression of autoimmune diseases.

Background: According to World Health Organisation data, on the top ten causes of death in the world in 2019, ischemic heart diseases ranked first, followed by stroke and chronic respiratory diseases. This study aimed to make cross-section of the current mortality rates of indicators of circulatory diseases, ischemic heart diseases and cerebrovascular diseases, access the trends of indicators in Serbia more than two decades and to find the correlation of these observed indicators between males and females.

Methods: Medical indicators were taken from the publicly available Health for all databases that deals with long-term evaluation and monitoring of indicators obtained from national authorities.

DNA exonucleases and endonucleases are key executors of the genome during many physiological processes. They generate double-stranded DNA by cleaving damaged endogenous or exogenous DNA, triggering the activation of the innate immune pathways such as cGAS-STING-IFN, and enabling the body to produce anti-viral or anti-tumor immune responses. This is of great significance for maintaining the stability of the genome and improving the therapeutic efficacy of tumors.

Differential expression of phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B and Toll-like receptor/nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathways in experimental obesity Wistar rat model.

This study aimed to investigate the differential expression of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway in relation to the Toll-like receptor (TLR)/nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway in an obese rat model. A total of 200 8-week-old male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to a control group (Ctrl, = 40) and an observation group (Obs, = 160), with obesity induced through a high-fat diet. Following modeling, the Obs group was further divided into a model group, a PI3K/AKT inhibition group, a TLR/NF-κB inhibition group, and a combined PI3K/AKT + TLR/NF-κB inhibition group, with 40 rats in each.

Association Between Dietary Selenium Intake and Kidney Stones Disease Among Patients with Metabolic Syndrome: A Cross-Sectional Study from the NHANES Database.

Background: Clinically, metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with the formation and relapse of kidney stones diseases (KSD). In the general population, dietary selenium can reduce renal damage by reducing oxidative stress and other physiological pathways. Less is known, however, about the association between dietary selenium and KSD in patients with MetS.

Impact of thrombocytopenia on failure of endoscopic variceal treatment in cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding.

Background: Acute variceal bleeding (AVB), a life-threatening complication of liver cirrhosis, can be effectively treated by endoscopy, but there is a risk of early rebleeding after endoscopic variceal treatment (EVT). Thrombocytopenia is the most common hemostatic abnormality in liver cirrhosis. However, it is still unclear about whether thrombocytopenia increases the failure of EVT in cirrhotic patients with AVB.

Predicting the effectiveness of omalizumab in patients with refractory chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps comorbid with asthma based on inflammatory biomarkers.

Background: The treatment of refractory chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) with omalizumab has been well studied based on clinical evaluation. Nevertheless, ideal quantitative or qualitative biomarkers for predicting a different response to biologics urgently need to be explored. We aim to identify potential biomarkers for predicting a good or poor response in patients with refractory CRSwNP.
