Objective: The detrimental effects of cigarette smoking on overall health are well-documented, with nicotine and carbon monoxide contributing to peripheral vasoconstriction and impaired oxygen delivery to tissues. This study reviews the impact of smoking on wound and bone healing, specifically in foot and ankle surgery, given its significant role as a modifiable risk factor for complications in orthopedic procedures.
Materials And Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted in May 2024 following PRISMA guidelines.

Background: The rising prevalence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in young adults, particularly with undetermined pathogenesis, is a growing concern. This study assessed risk factors, treatments, and outcomes between young AIS patients with undetermined and determined pathogeneses.
Methods And Results: This was a retrospective cohort study including AIS patients aged 18 to 55 years in Switzerland, treated between 2014 and 2022.

In fit patients with newly diagnosed myeloma, high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is considered standard of care. For mobilization of CD34+ cells for ASCT, combined cytotoxic chemotherapy and G-CSF is commonly used. However, the importance of cytostatic chemotherapy for reliable mobilization remains unclear.

Purpose: Approximately 7% of patients with rectal cancer experience local recurrence within 5 years of curative surgery. A positive circumferential resection margin (CRM) is among the most significant risk factors. Other reported risk factors include histopathologic type, anastomotic leakage, positive distal margins, and more recently, the anterior localization of the tumor.

Background: In patients with resectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), induction chemoimmunotherapy followed by surgical resection has shown unprecedented rates of pathological response and event-free survival. However, a triple-induction including radiochemotherapy and immunotherapy followed by surgical resection has not been routinely established in clinical practice.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 47-year-old patient with stage IIIA NSCLC who was treated in a combined concept including induction concurrent radiochemotherapy, followed by 4 cycles of pembrolizumab and subsequent intrapericardial left-sided pneumonectomy.

Illusory neuropsychiatric symptoms such as hallucinations or the feeling of a presence (FOP) can occur in diffuse brain lesion or dysfunction, in psychiatric diseases as well as in healthy individuals. Their occurrence due to focal brain lesions is rare, most probably due to underreporting, which limits progress in understanding their underlying mechanisms and anatomical determinants. In this single case study, an 86-year-old patient experienced, in the context of an acute right central opercular ischemic stroke, visual hallucinatory symptoms (including palinopsia), differently lateralized auditory hallucinations and FOP.

Background: Quantification of the T2 signal by means of T2 mapping in acute pancreatitis (AP) has the potential to quantify the parenchymal edema. Quantitative T2 mapping may overcome the limitations of previously reported scoring systems for reliable assessment of AP.
Purpose: To evaluate MR-derived pancreatic T2 mapping values in AP and correlate them with markers of disease severity.

Background: Predictive weight loss models can help patients meet their expectations after bariatric surgery and assist physicians in responding to deviations from the predicted weight. A model published by Seyssel et al. appears to accurately predict postoperative body mass index.

Introduction/aims: Lumbosacral radiculopathy (LR) is a common disorder. Neuromuscular ultrasound (NMU) is a rapidly evolving technique for the investigation of peripheral nerve and muscle disorders, but studies using NMU in LR are lacking. The aim of the present study was to investigate ultrasonographic neuromuscular changes distant from root compression in patients with subacute to chronic compressive LR with motor impairment.

Introduction: Vaccination hesitancy is an important barrier to vaccination among IBD patients. The development of adverse events is the main concern reported. The purpose of this monocentric study was to assess SARS-CoV-2 vaccination safety in IBD patients by evaluating the postvaccination flare risk and incidence of overall adverse events.

Background: Good data quality is essential when rare disease registries are used as a data source for pharmacovigilance studies. This study investigated data quality of the Swiss cystic fibrosis (CF) registry in the frame of a European Cystic Fibrosis Society Patient Registry (ECFSPR) project aiming to implement measures to increase data reliability for registry-based research.
Methods: All 20 pediatric and adult Swiss CF centers participated in a data quality audit between 2018 and 2020, and in a re-audit in 2022.

Background: Ischaemic stroke may occur despite antiplatelet therapy (APT). We aimed to investigate frequency, potential causes and outcomes in patients with ischaemic stroke despite APT.
Methods: In this cohort study, we enrolled patients with imaging-confirmed ischaemic stroke from the Swiss Stroke Registry (01/2014-07/2022).

Immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment has the potential to prolong survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), however, some of the patients develop resistance following initial response. Here, we analyze the immune phenotype of matching tumor samples from a cohort of NSCLC patients showing good initial response to immune checkpoint inhibitors, followed by acquired resistance at later time points. By using imaging mass cytometry and whole exome and RNA sequencing, we detect two patterns of resistance¨: One group of patients is characterized by reduced numbers of tumor-infiltrating CD8 T cells and reduced expression of PD-L1 after development of resistance, whereas the other group shows high CD8 T cell infiltration and high expression of PD-L1 in addition to markedly elevated expression of other immune-inhibitory molecules.

Aims: Visualization of the subtalar joint surface in surgical management of calcaneal factures remains a big challenge and anatomic reduction of the articular surface is essential for a good clinical outcome. We hypothesize that video-assistance can provide superior fracture reduction compared to fluoroscopy and that nanoscopy (NSC) achieves more extensive visualization compared to fracturoscopy (FSC).
Methods: Ten human cadaveric feet with artificially pre-fractured intraarticular calcaneal fractures with involvement of the posterior facet were treated via a minimal invasive subtalar approach.

Background: Molecular tumor profiling to identify oncogenic drivers and actionable mutations has a profound impact on how lung cancer is treated. Especially in the subgroup of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), molecular testing for certain mutations is crucial in daily clinical practice and is recommended by international guidelines. To date, a standardized approach to identify druggable genetic alterations are lacking.

Background: There is evidence on the clinical effectiveness of the Lemaire technique for lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) in patients undergoing revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), but the best fixation technique is unknown.
Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes of 2 fixation techniques after revision ACLR: (1) onlay anchor fixation, which would avoid tunnel conflict and physis injury, and (2) transosseous tightening and interference screw fixation. Pain at the area of LET fixation was also assessed.

Based on a case report, this review explores the genomic landscape for patients with liposarcomas and possible relationships with gene mutations related to craniosynostosis. We describe the case of a 40-year-old man, known for a surgical correction of craniosynostosis before the age of 1 year, who underwent a radical resection of a voluminous retroperitoneal liposarcoma; histopathological analysis revealed a low-grade well-differentiated, mostly sclerosing, liposarcoma. A genetic analysis searching for mutations in blood DNA was performed and did not detect any specific mutation.

Background: The clinical role of perfusion-weighted MRI (PWI) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains to be defined. The aim of this study was to provide evidence-based recommendations for the use of PWI sequence in HNSCC with regard to clinical indications and acquisition parameters.
Methods: Public databases were searched, and selected papers evaluated applying the Oxford criteria 2011.
