In Switzerland, additional vaccinations against influenza, COVID-19, Streptococcus pneumoniae and varicella zoster virus (VZV), are recommended for patients with chronic lung diseases such as COPD, asthma or interstitial lung disease, since infectious diseases often lead to exacerbation of lung diseases resulting in increased disease burden and mortality. In this review we give an overview on recommended vaccinations for patients with chronic lung diseases, also including vaccinations against pertussis and RSV, which are recommended in international guidelines. While continuous development of vaccines against S.

Background: Pancreatic adenocarcinoma remains a challenging malignancy with a poor prognosis. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has emerged as a potential treatment for unresectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma (UPAC) aimed at improving survival and quality of life. This meta-analysis and systematic review evaluates the outcomes of RFA in UPAC.

Unlabelled: Paradoxical deterioration in patients with tuberculous meningitis is a significant diagnostic and treatment challenge. We present the case of a 55-year-old previously healthy male, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative, presenting with headache, fever, agitation and slurred speech, who was ultimately diagnosed with tuberculous meningoencephalitis confirmed by cerebrospinal fluid polymerase chain reaction positive for complex. After initiation of a standard antitubercular therapy combined with glucocorticoids, the patient experienced an initial neurological improvement.

Objectives: To improve precision of secondary resection (SR) after positive surgical margin (PSM) detection by frozen section (FS) during nerve-sparing (NS) robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) by employing a personalised three-dimensional (3D)-printed prostate model derived from pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This model was used to mark positive surgical margins (PSM) and guide intraoperative SR during NS-RARP.
Patients And Methods: Prospective multicentre cohort study with 100 patients undergoing NS-RARP between September 2018 and August 2021.

Diagnosing acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is challenging due to its wide range of symptoms and numerous differential diagnoses. Medical professionals must balance performing all essential examinations and avoiding unnecessary testing. This study aimed to retrospectively audit the diagnosis and treatment of acute PE at a Swiss public teaching hospital to determine the adherence to current guidelines and to identify the factors associated with the delayed initiation of anticoagulation in PE patients.

Radiomics is a method to extract detailed information from diagnostic images that cannot be perceived by the naked eye. Although radiomics research carries great potential to improve clinical decision-making, its inherent methodological complexities make it difficult to comprehend every step of the analysis, often causing reproducibility and generalizability issues that hinder clinical adoption. Critical steps in the radiomics analysis and model development pipeline-such as image, application of image filters, and selection of feature extraction parameters-can greatly affect the values of radiomic features.

Introduction: Serial N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) measurements have proven to be useful for therapy monitoring in patients hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF). The POC-HF pilot study investigated whether serial NT-proBNP measurements influenced treatment decisions in these patients.
Methods: Patients hospitalized for ADHF were randomly assigned to an intervention group (serial NT-proBNP measurements made available to treating physicians) or a control group (care as usual).

Introduction: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is an established pathway to improve short-term outcomes in colorectal surgery. It is unclear whether the efficacy, feasibility, and safety of the ERAS protocol are similar in older and younger patients. The study examined adherence to the ERAS protocol and identified factors leading to deviations in older patients.

Various scoring systems are available for COVID-19 risk stratification. This study aimed to validate their performance in predicting severe COVID-19 course in a large, heterogeneous Swiss cohort. Scores like the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), CURB-65, 4C mortality score (4C), Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology score (COVID-SEIMC), and COVID Intubation Risk Score (COVID-IRS) were assessed in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021.

Background: The DV-QoL is a 17-item questionnaire measuring health-related quality of life in patients affected by symptomatic diverticular disease, covering four domains: physical symptoms, concerns, feelings, and behavioral changes. Given the lack of a diverticulitis-specific questionnaire to be used for German-speaking patients, we prospectively validated the German version of the DV-QoL.
Methods: German-speaking patients with CT-confirmed history of recurrent diverticular disease admitted to a Swiss surgical department completed the German version of the DV-QoL, along with short form-36 (SF-36) and the Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index (GIQLI).

Adjuvant immunotherapy has been recently recommended for patients with metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), but there are no tissue biomarkers to predict treatment response in ccRCC. Potential predictive biomarkers are mainly assessed in primary tumor tissue, whereas metastases (METs) remain understudied. To explore potential differences between genomic alterations and immune phenotypes in primary tumors and their matched METs, we analyzed primary tumors (PTs) of 47 ccRCC patients and their matched distant METs by comprehensive targeted parallel sequencing, whole-genome copy number variation analysis, determination of microsatellite instability, and tumor mutational burden.
