Neoadjuvant systemic treatment (NST) is the standard treatment for HER2+, triple-negative (TN), and highly proliferative luminal HER2- early breast cancer. Pathologic complete response (pCR) after NST is associated with improved outcomes. We evaluated the predictive factors for axillary-pCR (AXpCR) and its impact on the extent of axillary node surgery.

Pulmonary Tumor Thrombotic Microangiopathy in a Patient with Rapid Progressive Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

Introduction: Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a rare complication of metastatic carcinoma, which occurs in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension, and is mostly fatal. Circulating tumor cell clusters have been recognized as critical factors during breast cancer progression.

Case Presentation: An 80-year-old woman with triple-negative breast cancer was admitted to our hospital with progressive dyspnea and lower back pain.

Cancer related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is a common and persistent symptom in breast cancer patients. The Attentional Function Index (AFI) is a self-report measure that assesses CRCI. AFI includes three subscales, namely effective action, attentional lapses, and interpersonal effectiveness, that are based on working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility.

The metastatic spread of breast cancer accelerates during sleep.

The metastatic spread of cancer is achieved by the haematogenous dissemination of circulating tumour cells (CTCs). Generally, however, the temporal dynamics that dictate the generation of metastasis-competent CTCs are largely uncharacterized, and it is often assumed that CTCs are constantly shed from growing tumours or are shed as a consequence of mechanical insults. Here we observe a striking and unexpected pattern of CTC generation dynamics in both patients with breast cancer and mouse models, highlighting that most spontaneous CTC intravasation events occur during sleep.

Recurrence of IgA nephropathy after kidney transplantation: experience from the Swiss transplant cohort study.

Background: Recurrence of IgA nephropathy (IgAN) after kidney transplantation occurs in about 30% of patients. The relevance of recurrence for the long-term graft survival is expected to increase, since graft survival continues to improve.

Methods: In a nested study within the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study the incidence of IgAN recurrence, predictive factors, graft function and graft and patient survival were evaluated.

Distinct Cognitive Function Profiles Are Associated With a Higher Presurgery Symptom Burden in Patients With Breast Cancer.

Background: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is a common symptom in patients with breast cancer. In our previous study of 397 women with breast cancer, we identified 3 groups of patients with distinct CRCI profiles (ie, high, moderate, and low-moderate attentional function). Compared with the other 2 classes, the low-moderate class was younger, had more comorbidities, and with lower functional status.

Combined Simplified Molecular Classification of Gastric Adenocarcinoma, Enhanced by Lymph Node Status: An Integrative Approach.

Gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) is a heterogeneous disease and at least two major studies have recently provided a molecular classification for this tumor: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Asian Cancer Research Group (ARCG). Both classifications quote four molecular subtypes, but these subtypes only partially overlap. In addition, the classifications are based on complex and cost-intensive technologies, which are hardly feasible for everyday practice.

Hepatic stellate cells suppress NK cell-sustained breast cancer dormancy.

The persistence of undetectable disseminated tumour cells (DTCs) after primary tumour resection poses a major challenge to effective cancer treatment. These enduring dormant DTCs are seeds of future metastases, and the mechanisms that switch them from dormancy to outgrowth require definition. Because cancer dormancy provides a unique therapeutic window for preventing metastatic disease, a comprehensive understanding of the distribution, composition and dynamics of reservoirs of dormant DTCs is imperative.

Reliability of liquid biopsy analysis: an inter-laboratory comparison of circulating tumor DNA extraction and sequencing with different platforms.

Liquid biopsy, the analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), is a promising tool in oncology, especially in personalized medicine. Although its main applications currently focus on selection and adjustment of therapy, ctDNA may also be used to monitor residual disease, establish prognosis, detect relapses, and possibly screen at-risk individuals. CtDNA represents a small and variable proportion of circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA) which is itself present at a low concentration in normal individuals and so analyzing ctDNA is technically challenging.

Effects of Steam Sterilization on 3D Printed Biocompatible Resin Materials for Surgical Guides-An Accuracy Assessment Study.

Computer-assisted surgery with three-dimensional (3D) printed surgical guides provides more accurate results than free-hand surgery. Steam sterilization could be one of the factors that affect the dimensions of surgical guide resin materials, leading to inaccuracies during surgeries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of steam sterilization on the dimensional accuracy of indication-specific hollow cube test bodies, manufactured in-house using Class IIa biocompatible resin materials (proprietary and third-party).

Multi-fungal sepsis and mucormycosis of the central nervous system in a patient treated with ibrutinib, a case report and review of the literature.

We report the case of a 71 years old patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), who developed a rapidly progressing multi-fungal infection including mucormycosis of the central nervous system (CNS) during treatment with ibrutinib. On autopsy mucorales species were demonstrated intravascularly by histomorphology of several organs and lymph nodes and were characterized as by polymerase-chain reaction (PCR) - analysis. In addition, invasive pulmonary was found and also confirmed by PCR.

Metabolic syndrome in patients on first-line antiretroviral therapy containing zidovudine or tenofovir in rural Lesotho, Southern Africa.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among patients in rural Lesotho who are taking first-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) containing either zidovudine or tenofovir disoproxil.

Methods: Cross-sectional survey in 10 facilities in Lesotho among adult (≥16 years) patients on non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)-based first-line ART for ≥6 months. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria.
