Background: Previously, we found that was highly expressed in radiation-resistant human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells (CNE-2R) compared with human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells (CNE-2).
Materials And Methods: In this study, we first used the scratch assays and transwell assays to detect the migration and invasion of CNE-2R and CNE-2 cells and tested the epithelial mesenchymal transformation (EMT)-related proteins E-cadherin and N-cadherin by Western blot analysis. Subsequently, was knocked down to establish the effect of on EMT, migration, and invasion of CNE-2R cells both in vitro and in vivo.

BACKGROUND Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is widely accepted and is considered a standard treatment, particularly for unresectable and inoperable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the optimal use of the combined modalities of chemotherapy (CT) and radiotherapy (RT) remains controversial. In addition, no consensus has been reached regarding the exact efficacy of consolidation chemotherapy (CCT) and the most appropriate radiotherapy dose.

Objective: This study aimed to (a) assess the differences in the delineation of target volumes and organs-at-risk (OARs) by different physicians designing an intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and (b) analyze the impact of these differences on the treatment plan optimization.
Materials And Methods: The planning target volumes (PTVs) and OARs for radiotherapy were manually delineated from computed tomography images of a patient with NPC, and a standard delineation was determined using the STAPLE algorithm of ABAS software. IMRT was designed using one standard plan and 10 individual plans based on the same constraints and field conditions.

Background: It is unclear whether Cetuximab (CTX) or Nimotuzumab (NTZ) concurrent with radiotherapy delivers equivalent or improved results with fewer toxicities over standard cisplatin (CDDP) concurrent with radiotherapy in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: The strategy involved searching the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Internet Web, Wanfang and Chinese Biomedical databases. Controlled clinical trials that compared concurrent CTX/NTZ with radiotherapy versus CDDP with radiotherapy in local-regionally advanced NPC were included.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine whether cofilin-2 could serve as a protein marker for predicting radiotherapy response and as a potential therapeutic target in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). MATERIAL AND METHODS Cofilin-2 protein levels in serum and tissue samples from patients with NPC were assessed by sandwich ELISA and IHC. In vitro, cofilin-2 levels in CNE-2R cells were significantly higher than those of CNE-2 cells.

Radioresistance remains a major obstacle for clinicians in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Others and we have reported that signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) may be as an important gene for resistance to radiation. However, the relationship between STAT1 and radioresistance is still elusive.

Radioresistance is a major cause leads to treatment failure in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In our previous study, we identified that QSOX1 is a differentially expressed protein in NPC cell lines with variable radiosensitivities. The present study aimed to investigate the biological behavior of QSOX1 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and its effect on radiosensitivity.

Many studies have reported that inverse planning by simulated annealing (IPSA) can improve the quality of brachytherapy plans, and we wanted to examine whether IPSA could improve cervical cancer brachytherapy plans giving D < 6 Gy (with 7 Gy per fraction) at our institution. Various IPSA plans involving the tandem and ovoid applicators were developed for 30 consecutive cervical cancer patients on the basis of computed tomography: IPSA1, with a constraint on the maximum dose in the target volume; IPSA1-0, identical to IPSA1 but without a dwell-time deviation constraint; IPSA2, without a constraint on the maximum dose; and IPSA2-0, identical to IPSA2 but without a dwell-time deviation constraint. IPSA2 achieved similar results as graphical optimization, and none of the other IPSA plans was significantly better than graphical optimization.

The present study aimed to identify whether CD166 can be used as a biomarker for predicting the response of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) to radiotherapy. The serum concentration of CD166 in patients with NPC were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The secreted level of CD166 with radioresistant NPC was significantly higher than that with radiosensitive NPC.

This study evaluated the short-term effects of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and cisplatin concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CCRT) on attention in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC). Timely detection and early prevention of cognitive decline are important in cancer patients, because long-term cognitive effects may be permanent and irreversible. Thirty-eight NPC patients treated with IMRT (17/38) or CCRT (21/38) and 38 healthy controls were recruited for the study.

To date, there are no serum biomarkers available for the prediction of recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (rNPC). The diagnosis of rNPC mostly depends on imaging and biopsy of diseased tissue; however, both of these methods work mostly if the target tumor is at an advanced stage. Therefore, the identificaqtion of recurrent biomarkers is urgently required.

Purpose: Whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) could improve survival in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remains controversial especially in the era of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and we explored the role of NCT for NPC patients.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of 255 NPC patients treated with NCT+CCRT (n=67) or CCRT alone (n=188) based on IMRT between December 2006 and December 2012. To control the imbalance, a 1:2 match was performed using propensity score matching (PSM) method based on patient's heterogeneity and regimens of concurrent chemotherapy (CCT).

The present study aimed to define high-risk patients who may benefit from additional adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) after concurrent chemotherapy in combination with intensity-modulated radiotherapy among patients with loco-regionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). A cohort of 511 NPC patients who received concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with or without AC between January 2007 and December 2012 were retrospectively analysed. One hundred seventy-seven patients received CCRT alone, whereas 334 received CCRT + AC.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the 2008 Chinese and the 7th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging systems for nasopharyngeal carcinoma and to provide proposals for updating T and N staging systems of the present staging system.
Methods: Between January 2007 and December 2012, a cohort of 752 patients with biopsy-proven, newly diagnosed, non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma who were treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy were retrospectively analysed. Prognoses were compared by T stage, N stage, and clinical stage according to the two staging systems for overall survival (OS), local relapse-free survival (LRFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS).

Radioresistance is the major cause of poor prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). To identify and characterize the secretome associated with NPC radioresistance, we compared the conditioned serum-free medium of radioresistant CNE-2R cells with that of the parental radiosensitive CNE-2 cells using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) with liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) quantitative proteomics. Before proceeding to quantitative proteomics, we investigated the survival curves of CNE-2R and CNE-2 cells by colony formation assay, and the CNE-2R survival curves were significantly higher than those for CNE-2.
