Background: This study compared the clinical efficacy of first-, second-, and third-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in previously untreated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring uncommon epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 19delins variants.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical outcomes of NSCLC patients with EGFR exon 19delins mutations who were treated with third- and first-generation EGFR TKIs. In vitro and in vivo studies were conducted to verify the sensitivity of these mutations to distinct generations of TKIs.

Background: Bladder cancer is one of the most lethal malignancy in urological system, and 20-25% of bladder cancer patients are muscle invasive with unfavorable prognosis. However, the role of alternative splicing (AS) in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) remains to be elucidated.
Methods: Percent spliced in (PSI) data obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) SpliceSeq database (n = 394) were utilized to evaluate the AS events in MIBC.

Introduction: A refractory cervical anastomotic fistula which postoperatively remains unhealed for more than 2 months under conservative care severely impacts the quality of life of the patient and potentially leads to anastomotic stricture after the fistula heals. It is widely accepted that, to avoid this complication, refractory cervical anastomotic fistulas should undergo more aggressive treatments. However, when and which surgical intervention should be considered is unclear.

The purpose of this article is to study whether the overexpression of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) can promote the proliferation and fibrinolytic activity of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The recombinant adenovirus vectors containing the human uPA gene were constructed and transfected into HUVECs. In this study, the mRNA of uPA was detected by qPCR, and the uPA protein was measured by Western blot.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are frequently dysregulated in cancer and their aberrant expression has been associated with cancer diagnosis and prognosis, which suggests that they may be promising molecular biomarkers. However, understanding of the expression pattern of lncRNAs and their prognostic roles in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is relatively limited. In the current study, the prognostic value of lncRNA expression profiles in predicting the OS of patients with HNSCC was investigated by integrating clinical and profiling data from The Cancer Genome Atlas.

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a common and refractory disease affecting newborn children and infants with alveolar dysplasia and declined pulmonary function. Several microRNAs (miRNAs) have been found to be differentially expressed in BPD progression. This study further explores the role of miR-421 via fibroblast growth factor 10 (Fgf10) in mice with BPD.

As an endocrine disruptor, tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and DNA methyltransferase inhibitor, genistein can interfere with breast cancer development. However, as the results of numerous studies are contradictory, it is unclear whether genistein plays a positive or negative role. Retrospective epidemiological studies have indicated that high genistein intake is related to reduced breast cancer risk, but this protective effect has not been reported in clinical trials.

Background: Many studies have combined sorafenib with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) to treat patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the results are disputable. Thus, we conducted this meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of the combination treatment in patients with advanced HCC.
Methods: Clinical data were collected from a computer search of literature published from January 2009 to June 2016 in PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wan Fang and the China Science and Technology Journal Database (CSTJ).

Background And Aim: Gastric cancer (GC) has the fifth highest incidence rate of all cancers and has a poor prognosis. However, no recent large-scale and long-term studies have evaluated the incidence and survival rates of individuals with GC.
Methods: In order to explore the change of GC incidence and survival rates by age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status (SES), incidence data and survival status of patients with GC between 1984 and 2013 were abstracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.

Synovial sarcoma (SyS) is a rare malignancy that typically invades the extremities and occurs predominantly in adolescents. Studies on incidence and survival in SyS that were based on a large population had not been reported yet. To evaluate changes in incidence and survival in SyS over three decades, we accessed data on SyS cases in each decade between 1983 and 2012 (1983-1992, 1993-2002, and 2003-2012) from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a malignant tumor, which severely threatens human's life, moreover, the multi-drug resistance (MDR) under RCC undoubtedly strengthen the difficulties in the treatment. MiR-451 has been considered to play an important role in regulation of MDR in several cancers, but the role of it in MDR of RCC has not been explored. This study aims to explore the mechanism of miR-451 as a target to regulate chemotherapy resistance, which is crucial for further exploring novel therapy for RCC.

The identification of markers for disease diagnostic, prognostic, or predictive purposes will have a great effect in improving patient management. Proteomic‑based approaches for biomarker discovery are promising strategies used in cancer research. In this study, we performed quantitative proteomic analysis on four patients including clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and paired adjacent non‑cancerous renal tissues using label‑free quantitative proteomics and liquid chromatography‑tandem mass spectrometry (LC‑MS/MS) to identify differentially expressed proteins.

It has been reported that lncRNA PANDAR (promoter of CDKN1A antisense DNA damage-activated RNA) is induced as a result of DNA damage, and it regulates the reparation of DNA damage. In this study, we investigated the role of lncRNA PANDAR in the progression of breast cancer and found that PANDAR was up-regulated in breast cancer tissues and cell lines. The knockdown of PANDAR suppresses G1/S transition of breast cancer cells.

Increasing evidences reveal that Aurora-B may be involved in metastasis of malignant tumor. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of Aurora-B on invasion and migration of OS cells and the activity of PI3K/Akt/NF-κB signaling pathway in vitro. The expression of Aurora-B and p-Akt (Ser473) proteins was detected by immunohistochemistry in OS tissues from 24 patients with pulmonary metastatic disease, and the relationship between Aurora-B and p-Akt was investigated.
