Article Synopsis
  • Recent research highlights the potential of immunotherapy as a key treatment for colorectal cancer patients with mismatched repair gene defects (dMMR) or microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H), though data on its safety and practicality in these patients is still lacking.
  • A retrospective study at Sichuan Cancer Hospital involved 20 patients with dMMR/MSI-H CRC who received neoadjuvant immunotherapy, focusing on outcomes like pathological complete response (pCR) and safety profiles.
  • Results showed that 75% of patients who underwent surgery after immunotherapy achieved pCR, with varying success rates between those who received different immunotherapy combinations, suggesting promising short-term effectiveness of these treatments.

Redefining Esophagectomy: The Manual Layered Insertion Method That May Reduce Anastomotic Leakage.

J Surg Res

April 2024

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Sichuan Cancer Hospital and Institute, Sichuan Cancer Center, Cancer Hospital Affiliated to University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Electronic address:

Introduction: Anastomotic leakage post-esophagectomy remains a significant challenge. Despite the use of both mechanical and manual anastomosis, leakage rates remain high. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the manual layered insertion anastomosis technique in addressing this issue.

To investigate the clinicopathological features and prognostic factors of lung metastasis in patients with cervical cancer after treatment. The clinicopathological data of 191 patients with lung metastasis of stage â… a-â…¢b cervical cancer (FIGO 2009 stage) treated in Sichuan Cancer Hospital from January 2007 to December 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. Kaplan Meier method and Log rank test were used for survival analysis, and Cox regression model was used for prognostic factors analysis.

Network and pathway-based analysis of candidate genes associated with esophageal adenocarcinoma.

J Gastrointest Oncol

February 2023

Department of General Internal Medicine, Sichuan Cancer Hospital & Institute, Sichuan Cancer Center, Cancer Hospital Affiliated to University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China.

Background: Previous studies have made some headway in analyzing esophageal adenocarcinoma (EA) with respect to pathogenic factors, treatment methods, and prognosis. However, far less is known about the molecular mechanisms. Thus, a comprehensive analysis focusing on the biological function and interaction of EA genes would provide valuable information for understanding the pathogenesis of EA, which may provide new insights into gene function as well as potential therapy targets.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant immunotherapy in patients with resectable locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Background: Several studies have reported the outcomes of neoadjuvant immunotherapy in patients with ESCC. However, phase 3 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with long-term outcomes and the comparison of different therapeutic strategies are lacking.

Network and pathway-based analysis of genes associated with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Ann Transl Med

January 2023

Department of Head and Neck Oncology and Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Center and State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Background: Although diagnostic methods and treatments have improved over the last few years, the 5-year survival rate of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients remains generally poor. The development of high-throughput technology has facilitated great achievements in localization of ESCC-related genes. To take a further step toward a thorough understanding of ESCC at a molecular level, the potential pathogenesis of ESCC needs to be deciphered.

Adaptive radiotherapy performed on the daily magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an option to improve the treatment quality. In the adapt-to-shape workflow of 1.5-T MR-Linac, the contours of structures are adjusted on the basis of patient daily MRI, and the adapted plan is recalculated on the MRI-based synthetic computed tomography (syCT) generated by bulk density assignment.

Therapy-resistant and -sensitive lncRNAs, SNHG1 and UBL7-AS1 promote glioblastoma cell proliferation.

Oxid Med Cell Longev

April 2022

Key Laboratory of Biological Resource and Ecological Environment of Chinese Education Ministry, College of Life Sciences, Sichuan University, No. 24 South Section 1, Yihuan Road, Chengdu 610064, China.

The current treatment options for glioblastoma (GBM) can result in median survival of 15-16 months only, suggesting the existence of therapy-resistant factors. Emerging evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an essential role in the development of various brain tumors, including GBM. This study aimed to identify therapy-resistant and therapy-sensitive GBM associated lncRNAs and their role in GBM.

A new technique of laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy optimizes perioperative outcome.

J Gynecol Oncol

January 2021

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chengdu Women and Children's Central Hospital, Affiliated to University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to introduce a new technique for laparoscopic para-aortic lymphadenectomy (PAL): an invented retroperitoneum suspension needle combined with modified trocar placement.

Methods: This prospective pilot study randomly categorized women with cervical cancer of stage I-II into 2 groups. The patients in the study group would have laparoscopic PAL with our new technique, while those in the control group with control method.

A Vector-Based Short Hairpin RNA Targeting Aurora B Suppresses Human Prostatic Carcinoma Growth.

Technol Cancer Res Treat

February 2017

1 Key Laboratory of Biological Resource and Ecological Environment of Chinese Education Ministry, College of Life Sciences, Sichuan University, Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Aurora kinase B, playing a vital, important role in mitosis, is frequently detected to be overexpressed in many cancer cell lines and various tumor tissues, including prostatic carcinoma. Given the essential function of Aurora kinase B in mitosis and its association with tumorigenesis, it might be a drug target for prostatic carcinoma treatment. In our study, short hairpin RNA targeting Aurora kinase B was cloned into a pGPU6 plasmid vector and then transfected into human prostatic carcinoma cells.
