Radiotherapy plays a limited role in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to the development of resistance. Therefore, further investigation of underlying mechanisms involved in HCC radioresistance is warranted. Increasing evidence shows that long non-coding RNAs (linc-RNAs) are involved in the pathology of various tumors, including HCC.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs; also known as tumor-initiating cells) are essential effectors of tumor progression due to their self-renewal capacity, differentiation potential, tumorigenic ability and resistance to chemotherapy, all of which contribute to cancer relapse, metastasis and a poor prognosis. Breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) have been identified to be involved in the processes of BC initiation, growth and recurrence. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non-coding small RNAs of 19-23 nucleotides in length that regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level through various mechanisms, and serve critical roles in cancer progression.

Gastric cancer tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (GC-MSCs) are important resident stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) and have been shown to play a key role in gastric cancer progression. Whether GC-MSCs exert a tumor-promoting function by affecting anti-tumor immunity is still unclear. In this study, we used GC-MSC conditioned medium (GC-MSC-CM) to pretreat peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from healthy donors.

Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) is an endogenous adaptor of innate and adaptive immune responses, and serves a crucial role in tumor necrosis factor receptor and toll‑like/interleukin‑1 receptor signaling. Although studies have demonstrated that TRAF6 has oncogenic activity, its potential contributions to breast cancer in human remains largely uninvestigated. The present study examined the expression levels and function of TRAF6 in breast carcinoma (n=32) and adjacent healthy (n=25) tissue samples.

Accumulating evidence has pointed to a role of the CpG island hypermethylation in the regulation of cancer-related genes in tumor progression. However, the biological impacts in cancer pathogenesis associated with down-regulation of such gene targets remains elusive. Here we focused on a potential target of hypermethylation, DBCCR1 (deleted in bladder cancer chromosome region 1), a gene encoding a candidate tumor suppressor.

MicroRNAs are small noncoding RNAs which regulate gene expressions at post-transcriptional level by binding to the 3'-untranslated region of target messenger RNAs. Growing evidences highlight their pivotal roles in various biological processes of human cancers. Among them, miR-138, generating from two primary transcripts, pri-miR-138-1 and pri-miR-138-2, expresses aberrantly in different cancers and is extensively studied in cancer network.

Chimaeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies, as one of the cancer immunotherapies, have heralded a new era of treating cancer. The accumulating data, especially about CAR-modified T cells against CD19 support that CAR T-cell therapy is a highly effective immune therapy for B-cell malignancies. Apart from CD19, there have been many trials of CAR T cells directed other tumour specific or associated antigens (TSAs/TAAs) in haematologic malignancies and solid tumours.
