Natural killer (NK) cells can control metastasis through cytotoxicity and IFN-γ production independently of T cells in experimental metastasis mouse models. The inverse correlation between NK activity and metastasis incidence supports a critical role for NK cells in human metastatic surveillance. However, autologous NK cell therapy has shown limited benefit in treating patients with metastatic solid tumors.

This study aimed to evaluate the ability of the preoperative Hemoglobin, Albumin, Lymphocyte count, and Platelet (HALP) score to predict lymph node metastasis (LNM) in patients with rectal cancer (RC) and improve prediction accuracy by incorporating clinical parameters. Data from 263 patients with RC were analyzed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to determine the optimal cutoff value (OCV) for the HALP score in predicting LNM.

This study reports a simple and rapid aptamer-based sensor platform designed for the sensitive and selective detection of human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. Under standard conditions, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) remain dispersed and exhibit a characteristic peak at 520 nm. However, the addition of sodium chloride (NaCl) destabilizes the charge of the solution, leading to the aggregation of AuNPs.

Chronic inflammation is a major characteristic of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and is closely related to the mechanisms of cancer development. Persistent inflammatory responses can lead to DNA damage, gene mutations, and abnormal cell proliferation, all of which may increase the risk of cancer. We also explore the use of biologic therapy of AS and their potential cancer risks.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with smoking being a significant risk factor. Understanding the temporal and spatial patterns of the CRC burden attributable to smoking is crucial for global public health strategies. Data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021 were used to calculate the number of deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) per 100 000 population, and age-standardized disability-adjusted life year rate (ASDR).

Phyllodes tumours of the breast are rare fibroepithelial neoplasms classified histologically into benign, borderline, or malignant; each requiring different treatment strategies. The infrequency of presentation can result in diagnostic and management variability. The aim is to provide evidence-based or expert consensus recommendations for multidisciplinary teams managing patients with phyllodes tumours.

Background: Gastric outlet obstruction due to unresectable tumours is usually managed with a gastrojejunostomy. Unfortunately, the unsatisfactory outcomes of this procedure have led to the search for alternatives, including gastric partitioning.
Methods: Monocentric, randomized, parallel, open-label trial that included patients with obstructive, unresectable distal gastric tumours.

Aims: Crovalimab is a novel C5 inhibitor administered first intravenously and then subcutaneously in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) naive to complement inhibition or switching from eculizumab or ravulizumab. Crovalimab showed efficacy and safety comparable to eculizumab in the pivotal COMMODORE 2 and supporting studies.
Methods: We characterized crovalimab pharmacokinetics and the relationship between exposure pharmacokinetic parameters and pharmacodynamic biomarkers, efficacy and safety endpoints using pooled data (healthy volunteers [n = 9], naive [n = 210] and switched [n = 211] patients).

Background: This study analyzed the clinical features of patients with recurrent or metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), who developed progressive disease (PD) after immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 256 patients with R/M HNSCC treated with ICIs at 11 medical centers. Associations between the treatment outcomes-best response, overall survival, and progression-free survival-and various clinical factors were analyzed.

This study evaluated the association between age at first full-term pregnancy (FFTP) and mammographic breast density (MBD) in postmenopausal women. 1,034 women, age 50-69y, were recruited from the Flemish (Belgium) population-based breast cancer screening program. Participants completed a questionnaire on lifestyle and reproductive factors.

Objectives: Our previous studies have found that low-frequency, low-pressure, weakly focused ultrasound (FUS) can induce acoustic droplet vaporization (ADV) of perfluoropentane (PFP) droplets and result in localized liver and prostate tissue controllable cavitation resonance and mechanical damage. To further investigate the mechanical erosion induced by ultrasound and locally injected phase-shift acoustic droplets in rabbit liver.
Methods: The liver of each rabbit was treated with perfluoromethylcyclopentane (PFMCP) alone, FUS combined with PFMCP (FUS + PFMCP), and FUS combined with PFP (FUS + PFP).

Background: Although the genetic interplay with the environment has a major impact on obesity development, little is known on whether breastfeeding could modulate the genetic predisposition to obesity.
Objectives: To investigate whether breastfeeding attenuates the effect of an obesity genetic risk score (GRS) on adiposity in European adolescents.
Methods: Totally 751 adolescents from the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence (HELENA) cross-sectional study were included, divided according to breastfeeding status into never breastfed, 1-3 months and ≥4 months.

Objectives: Spingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) and ceramides are bioactive sphingolipids that influence cancer cell fate. Anti-ceramide antibodies might inhibit the effects of ceramide. The aim of this study was to assess the potential role of circulating S1P and anti-ceramide antibody as biomarkers in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Objectives: Concerns about erythropoietin (EPO) therapy for anemia in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) contributing to potential bone loss and increased fracture risks are growing. This study investigated the impact of EPO administration on the risk of common osteoporotic fractures in ESRD patients.
Methods: This population-based retrospective cohort study compared EPO users and non-EPO users among ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis, diagnosed with ESRD between 2000 and 2014 identified from the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan.

The burden of disease and death attributable to environmental pollution is a growing public health challenge worldwide, particularly in developing countries. While the adverse effects of environmental pollution on oral health have garnered increasing attention, a comprehensive and systematic assessment remains lacking. This article delves into the intricate relationship between environmental pollution and oral health, highlighting significant impacts on various aspects such as dental caries, periodontal diseases, oral facial clefts, cancer, as well as other oral diseases.

Lung cancer is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality in China and worldwide. Once it metastasizes to the brain, its prognosis is very poor. Brain metastases are found in about 20% of newly diagnosed non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Purpose: The transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) is distinguished by its ability to leave no visible scars on the body's surface. Currently, there is still a lack of single-center large sample size analysis on the learning curve of TOETVA, especially for the treatment of thyroid cancer. This study aims to fill this void by presenting a comprehensive analysis of the learning curve and assessing the procedure's feasibility in managing thyroid cancer.

Osteosarcoma is a common malignant tumor found in adolescents, characterized by a high metastatic potential and poor prognosis, but it is sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Ferroptosis is a novel form of regulated cell death induced by excessive iron accumulation, leading to lipid peroxidation that results in cellular dysfunction and death. Naringenin is a flavonoid known for its anti-cancer properties, yet its role in osteosarcoma has not been thoroughly studied.
