Management of metastatic colorectal cancer: consensus in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) represents a major public health challenge globally, particularly in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, where it is identified as the second most prevalent form of cancer. Despite advancements in management strategies, tailored guidelines specific to the Gulf region are lacking. This paper presents consensus recommendations developed by a panel of experts from the GCC countries to address this gap.

Impact of telomere length for risk assessment and prognosis in papillary thyroid cancer depending on the clinicopathological features.

Objective: . Despite the establishment of a link between telomere status and carcinogenesis, lack of a consensus in the cancer specific pattern of telomere length has a severe impact on the use of relative telomere length (RTL) in cancer diagnosis. The disparity in assessing the relationship between telomere length and cancer risk is complex and may vary as it is influenced by other factors.

A Prospective Evaluation of Chemokine Receptor-4 (CXCR4) Overexpression in High-grade Glioma Using Ga-Pentixafor (Pars-Cixafor™) PET/CT Imaging.

Background: While magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains the gold standard for morphological imaging, its ability to differentiate between tumor tissue and treatment-induced changes on the cellular level is insufficient. Notably, glioma cells, particularly glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), demonstrate overexpression of chemokine receptor-4 (CXCR4). This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of non-invasive Ga-Cixafor™ PET/CT as a tool to improve diagnostic accuracy in patients with high-grade glioma.

Changes in Personal Behaviors During and After the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Nationwide Three-Year Longitudinal Study in Japan.

Few longitudinal studies have examined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on personal behaviors. This study investigated changes in four social behaviors among the Japanese public during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, using four-wave longitudinal data (2020-2023) from the Japan COVID-19 and Society Internet Survey (JACSIS). In total, 8622 respondents continuously participated in the surveys.

The Association between Perinatal Complications and Adverse Childhood Experiences: Findings from a Nationwide Online Survey.

Objective:  This study aimed to evaluate the association between maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) levels and the risk of perinatal complications.

Study Design:  This is a retrospective cohort study of 5,693 mother-child pairs born between 2019 and 2021, who completed questionnaires on maternal ACE scores and perinatal complications such as preterm birth, low birth weight infants, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and premature rupture of membrane (PROM). Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using logistic regression according to the three ACE score groups after adjusting for confounding factors such as maternal age, child's sex, household income, and maternal education.

Breast cancer (BC) in females is the most diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide, followed by lung, colorectal, and cervical cancers. For oligo-metastatic (OM) cancers, the best definition is a maximum of five metastatic foci, not necessarily located in the same organ or anatomic region, all potentially treatable by ablative local treatment: either surgical resection or radiation when accessible. Oligo-metastatic breast cancer (OM-BC) is currently arising as an emerging entity with more focused research needed to upgrade the guidelines for best management.

Background: This study aimed to examine trends in socioeconomic inequalities in sports group participation and daily walking time among older adults in Japan from 2016 to 2019, and to elucidate the association of municipal-level social capital in these trends.

Methods: Using data from the Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study across 2 waves (2016 and 2019), this repeated cross-sectional ecological study included 50 municipalities with 102,575 and 94,022 participants, respectively. We investigated inequalities in sports group participation, and daily walking time by income and education, using the slope index of inequality and relative index of inequality with municipal-level social capital variables, such as civic participation, reciprocity, social cohesion, and social network.
