Characteristics of Patients Presenting to the Academic Emergency Department in Central Anatolia.

Objectives: Determining the properties of patients admitted to the emergency department (ED) is important to plan for future and quality assurance. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the properties of patients admitted to our ED to improve the quality of care within our hospital.

Methods: In the study period, the patients: (i) who have their full information in hospital information and management system (HIMS) and (ii) older than 17 years of age were included into the study.

Background: Drugs administered by intravenous routes may be contaminated during several stages of production or preparation. Sugammadex is a modified gamma cyclodextrin. While research into the antibacterial effects of varieties of cyclodextrin is available, there are no studies focusing on the antibacterial effects of sugammadex.

Effects of white noise and holding on pain perception in newborns.

This experimental study on newborns was conducted to compare the effects of various atraumatic care procedures during an infant's crying response to pain. Included in this study were 120 newborns chosen from among healthy infants admitted to the Obstetrics Department of Çanakkale State Hospital between April 2010 and June 2010. Prognostic Value of the Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio in Patients With ST-Elevated Acute Myocardial Infarction.

The predictive value of leukocyte counts has been reported in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the total leukocyte count and neutrophil-lymphocyte (N/L) ratio for mortality due to AMI. A total of 522 patients with acute ST-elevated MI were included in the study.

Coexistence of thyroid hemiagenesis, nodular goitre and papillary carcinoma.

In this article, we report a very rare case of left thyroid lobe with agenesis, adenomatous hyperplasia and coexisting papillary carcinoma of the right lobe. A 59-year-old asymptomatic woman with no previous thyroid surgery was evaluated sonographically. Ultrasonography and scintigraphy revealed an agenesis in the left lobe and multiple right lobe nodules with one of them diagnosed with papillary carcinoma.

Transudates in malignancy: still a role for pleural fluid.

Introduction: The aims of this study were to determine the distribution of transudates and exudates among pathologically proven malignant pleural effusions, and to demonstrate the necessity for cytologic studies in patients with a transudative effusion.

Materials And Methods: This study is a retrospective review of all subjects diagnosed with malignant or paramalignant pleural effusion over a 10-year period at a tertiary hospital. The study included 67 subjects with malignant mesothelioma, 45 subjects with metastatic disease, and 36 subjects with paramalignant effusions.

Pleural fluid findings as prognostic factors for malignant pleural mesothelioma.

The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic value of pleural fluid glucose, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), albumin, total protein, and total leukocyte levels in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. We retrospectively analyzed 71 consecutive patients (33 men and 38 women) who were referred to the department of chest diseases in a university hospital. Dorsal pedal venous blood gas analysis was performed in 24 patients with arterial occlusive disease requiring revascularizations of the lower extremities.
