Liver transplantation (LT) has become a favorable therapeutic option for patients with end-stage liver diseases. Gilbert's syndrome (GS) is a benign condition characterized by intermittent mild jaundice due to unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia. It is not obvious whether living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT) from a donor with GS could result in a normal outcome for both the recipient and the donor.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic, persistent, and destructive disorder with different forms of clinical behavior and the disease appears to be progressive over the long term. Providing greater levels of mucosal healing and resolution of clinical symptoms may modify the course of CD. This will often necessitate long-term therapy with immunosuppressant or biological therapies.

Department of Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, Uludağ University, Bursa, Turkey.

To investigate relationships between the polymorphisms and social functioning of children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), according to the polymorphism of three oxytocin receptor (OXTR) genes (rs53576, rs13316193, and and rs2268493). A total of 198 children-studying in the same primary and secondary school and matched in terms of age and gender (99 ADHD, 99 control)-were included in this study. The Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version was administered to establish the clinical diagnosis.

Objective: Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measurement is used for assessing the impact of diseases and medical treatments on physical, psychological and social aspects of an individual's health and life. The Paediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ is a widely used instrument to measure paediatric HRQOL in children. The aim of this study is to investigate the HRQOL in paediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and determine the precautions for improving the quality of their life.

Background: Ankaferd blood stopper (ABS) is a herbal extract that enhances mucosal healing. It has therapeutic potential in the management of external hemorrhage and controlling gastrointestinal bleeding associated with various benign lesions refractory to conventional antihemorrhagic measures. The aim of this experimental study was to assess the effects of ABS on hemorrhagic lesions and compare them with omeprazole.

Article Synopsis
  • There are no validated noninvasive markers for liver fibrosis in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), but this study investigates the role of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and serum angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) levels as potential indicators of fibrosis stages.
  • Serum ACE levels were found to significantly increase with the severity of liver fibrosis in 73 AIH patients, showing high sensitivity and specificity for distinguishing between different fibrosis stages using specific cut-off values.
  • The findings suggest that measuring serum ACE can be a simple and cost-effective method to assess liver fibrosis in AIH, and inhibiting RAS may help slow down liver fibrosis progression.

Acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO), also known as Ogilvie's syndrome, is a clinical syndrome characterised by gross dilation of the caecum and right hemicolon, which sometimes extends to the sigmoid colon and rectum in the absence of an anatomic lesion in the intestinal lumen. It is characterised by impaired propulsion of contents of the gastrointestinal tract, which results in a clinical picture of intestinal obstruction. A careful examination of the markedly distended colon can exclude several colonic pathologies, including mechanical obstruction and other causes of toxic megacolon.

Background And Aims: Clinicopathologic and molecular studies have provided new insights and understanding on the pathological events during ovarian carcinogenesis. Moreover, angiotensin II-enhanced tumor cell invasion via type 1 angiotensin II receptor in ovarian cancer cell lines was recently demonstrated. It has been suggested that renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activity increases in diseases involving the female reproductive system.

Objective: Abuse is considered to have a place in the etiology of various psychiatric disorders. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is one of the psychiatric disorders for which abuse could be an etiologic factor; however, few studies have investigated the relationship between abuse and PMDD. In this study, our aim was to investigate childhood abuse in patients with PMDD and compare them with healthy female subjects.

Background: Despite advances in the understanding of the pathophysiological basis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), it is still difficult to delineate the mechanisms involved in progression from hepatic inflammation toward fibrosis. Our aim was to study serum concentrations of NO in AIH of different histological severity and possible effects of immunosuppressive therapy on NO production.

Materials And Methods: We studied serum NO metabolites (NOx) in 47 consecutive patients with AIH and in 28 age- and sex-matched controls.
