Objectives: The aim of study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of the renal parenchyma elasticity with the shear wave elastography (SWE) and microvascularization with the superb microvascular imaging (SMI) technique before kidney biopsy and to predict the complication of hemorrhage before kidney biopsy.

Methods: A total of 75 patients were included in the prospective study. Before the biopsy, vascularity features of the kidney parenchyma in the area to be biopsied were assessed by SMI and parenchymal stiffness by SWE and were examined by 2 independent radiologists.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a sample of 387 patients, 14.7% showed optimal adherence, 71.3% had moderate adherence, and 14.0% had low adherence to the MD. Those with poor adherence experienced higher levels of depression and worse disease symptoms.
  • * The findings suggest that better adherence to the MD may lead to improved mood and QoL in SSc patients, indicating a need for further research on the diet's impact on managing the disease.

Introduction: Alterations in collagen subtypes and matrix can potentially cause fluid loss in surgery which is important in terms of liquid loss.

Objectives: The study aimed to analyze stria gravidarum (SG) and its severity in pregnant women who had undergone cesarean section (CS) and to evaluate surgical fluid loss (SFL) that occurred during CS operation.

Methods: The research was designed as a prospective clinical cohort study to compare the amount of SFL in the second cesarean section with the severity of SG at 34-37 weeks pregnant (N 308).

Objective: Determining the predictive factors for cardiac arrest may be helpful in the management of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and in estimating the outcome. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of demographic data, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) initiating setting, compression method, and laboratory parameters on survival from cardiac arrest.

Methods: A total of 414 patients who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study.

Objective: This study aimed to find out the level of the gracilis and semitendinosus tendons that would provide the closest information about the size of the quadruple-stranded hamstring autograft using magnetic resonance images before anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Methods: Ninety-six patients (44 males, 52 females) who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with quadruple hamstring tendon autografts between January 2015 and March 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The cross-sectional areas of the gracilis and the semitendinosus tendons at 6 different levels (pes anserinus insertion site, tibial tuberosity, fibular head, tibial plateau, and the proximal insertion sites of the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament were measured on the magnetic resonance images.

Objectives: Retrocochlear pathology associated with audiovestibular symptoms is detected in very few of the patients, and most of the internal acoustic canal magnetic resonance imaging examinations (IAC-MRIs) are either completely normal or include accompanying incidental findings (IFs). The aim of our study is to reveal the presence and frequency of IFs in IAC-MRIs, together with retrocochlear lesions. In addition, we intend to emphasize the clinical importance of these IFs.

Prognostic nutritional index (PNI), consisting of inflammatory-nutritional parameters, has been investigated in terms of outcomes and renal function in patients with coronary artery disease. The objective of this study is to assess the predictive power of the PNI in predicting the risk for developing contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI), an important complication following coronary angiography in patients with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). The study population (336 patients with the diagnosis of NSTEMI) was divided into two groups: patients with CA-AKI and patients without CA-AKI.

This study aims to investigate the anatomical factors that are effective in the formation of peroneal tendon tears comparing with the control group. The patients with ankle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) due to pain on the lateral side of the ankle were retrospectively analyzed using the clinical archive between July 2015 and January 2020. Peroneal tendon tears, peroneal tubercle type and size, presence of peroneal quartus, presence and type of retromalleolar groove, retromalleolar groove area, lateral malleolus type, presence of os peroneum, peroneus brevis-lateral malleolus distance (PBLMD), and accompanying pathologies in coronal, axial, and sagittal planes MRI were evaluated.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic prediction of germline BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations by comparing the maximum standardized uptake value (SUV) obtained from fluoride-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-FDG PET/CT), which is considered a prognostic factor in breast cancer (BC).

Methods: Retrospective interdisciplinary laboratory results of 92 patients with BC who had germline BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation profiles and underwent F-FDG PET/CT were compared. Genotyping was made by next-generation sequencing, and PET/CT scans were re-evaluated.

Central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) is a neurological disorder characterized by demyelination on the bottom of pons. CPM is known to be the most common clinical presentation of osmotic demyelination syndrome. Osmotic stress formed by rapid correction of hyponatremia in glia cells is thought to be important in pathogenesis.

Pulmonary barotrauma during hookah diving: a case report.

Undersea Hyperb Med

January 2021

Department of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey.

When commercial sea harvesters have dive accidents, it is sometimes difficult to obtain an accurate dive history and make a definitive diagnosis. We report a sea harvest diver who dived to collect sea snails (Rapana venosa) by using a hookah dive system. He experienced mediastinal and subcutaneous emphysema due to interruption of breathing airflow.

Introduction: The aim of the present study is to investigate the diagnostic value of the CD4+, CD8+ and CD103+ lymphocyte sub-groups in mediastinal lymph nodes, as an adjunctive marker in sarcoidosis.

Materials And Methods: The present study is a single-center, prospective cohort study designed in a reference center for chest diseases. Forty-six patients who underwent endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)-guided mediastinal lymph node sampling with a preliminary diagnosis of sarcoidosis were enrolled.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a well-known complication of spinal cord injury (SCI). Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) may be used in SCI patients who develop DVT, but can lead to subcutaneous bleeding. If subcutaneous bleeding occurs, then lymphedema, cellulitis, muscle or tendon tearing, or baker's cyst rupture should be considered in the differential diagnosis.

  • The study explored how inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) affect the outcomes of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and their association with mortality risk.
  • 172 ICS users had COPD and fewer reported symptoms like fever, muscle pain, and gastrointestinal issues compared to non-users.
  • The results indicated ICS use did not significantly impact hospitalization duration or mortality in CAP patients, but might reduce fever and other respiratory signs, warranting further investigation.

Aim: Injuries are among the main causes of mortality and morbidity all over the world, and effective initial triage of these patients can determine the thin line between death and life. Tractor accidents and related injuries are significant problems particularly in rural areas. However, major trauma classification systems do not include tractor accidents as a criterion for trauma team activation or transportation of the patients to a trauma center.

  • The study examines the effectiveness of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) analysis as a diagnostic tool for sarcoidosis amid varying clinical and radiological factors.
  • The retrospective analysis included 257 patients, revealing that BALF was diagnostic in 56% of cases, with a significant correlation between diagnostic results and instances of extrapulmonary involvement.
  • Findings suggest that BALF analysis is a reliable method for diagnosing sarcoidosis, particularly in patients with additional organ system involvement.
