High Normocapnia and Better Functional Outcome in Patients Undergoing Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation After Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.

Background: The optimal target for partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO₂) remains uncertain in patients undergoing veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Research Question: Are PaCO₂ levels associated with functional outcomes in patients receiving VA-ECMO after OHCA?

Study Design: and Methods: This multicenter, registry-based observational study, conducted from 2014 to 2020, included non-traumatic adult OHCA patients on VA-ECMO with PaCO₂ levels measured within six hours of initiation (initial PaCO₂ set) and at 18-30 hours post-initiation (24-hour PaCO₂ set). PaCO₂ levels were categorized into five groups: hypocapnia (<30 mmHg), low normocapnia (30-<40 mmHg), high normocapnia (40-<50 mmHg), mild hypercapnia (50-<60 mmHg), and moderate to severe hypercapnia (≥60 mmHg).

Lung transplantation and bone health: A narrative review.

Bone health after lung transplantation has not been comprehensively reviewed in over two decades. This narrative review summarizes available literature on bone health in the context of lung transplantation, including epidemiology, presentation and post-operative management. Osteoporosis is reported in approximately 30-50% of lung transplant candidates, largely due to disease-related impact on bone and lifestyle, and corticosteroid-related effects during end-stage lung disease (interstitial lung diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and historically cystic fibrosis).

Impacts of severity and region of gill tissue resection on regeneration in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar).

In a previous study, we demonstrated successful regeneration of Atlantic salmon gill tissue following up to 50 % filament resection. The present study explored 1) the capacity of gill tissue to regenerate following more severe trauma, 2) if regeneration potential varies across regions of the arch, and 3) how tissue loss impacts the physiology of neighboring unresected filaments. Experiments: In a radial Hele-Shaw cell, experiments were conducted on air injection into mineral oil and air injection into a volume of water at the center of the cell which in turn is surrounded by mineral oil.

Chickens are a key species in both the manifestation of avian influenza and the potential for zoonotic transmission. Avian influenza virus (AIV) infection in chickens can range from asymptomatic or mild disease with low pathogenic AIVs (LPAIVs) to systemic fatal disease with high pathogenic AIVs (HPAIVs). During AIV infection in chickens, Toll-like receptor 7 and melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 are upregulated to detect the single-stranded ribonucleic acid genomes of AIV, triggering a signaling cascade that produces interferons (IFNs) and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Disitamab vedotin (DV) is a novel anti-HER2 ADC that binds to a different epitope on HER2 compared to trastuzumab. We assessed the efficacy of DV in breast and gastric cancer cell lines and xenografts, including tumor models resistant to T-DM1 and T-DXd.
