Objective(s): We conduct a comparative study that employs the use of multiple dynamic deep learning algorithms to develop predictive models with video-based echocardiographic images using sample size determination as a key variable to assess optimal performance metrics.
Methods: Our study compares performance of 3D convolutional neural networks, video vision transformers, and hybrid convolutional neural networks and Long Short-Term Memory models within both supervised and semi-supervised domains using variable sample sizes.
Results: For supervised learning, the ResNet3D model achieved the lowest Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) across all training set sizes (200, 400, and 800-video datasets), with the best performance observed on the 800-video training set (MAE: 7.

Background: Higher levels of CRF have been demonstrated to attenuate or negate the adverse cardiovascular impacts of other risk factors. We aimed to assess the interplay between body mass index (BMI), CRF and sudden cardiac death (SCD) risk.
Methods: Body mass index was calculated based on guideline recommendations and CRF assessed using a respiratory gas exchange analyzer during clinical exercise testing at baseline in 2308 men aged 42-61 years of age.

Retinoic-acid-related orphan receptors (RORs) are transcription factors belonging to the nuclear receptor subfamily consisting of RORα, RORβ, and RORγ. By binding to the ROR response elements (ROREs) on target gene promoters, RORs regulate a wide variety of cellular processes, including autophagy, mitophagy, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Vitamins are known to affect the regulation of several biochemical and metabolic pathways that influence cellular function. Adequate amounts of both hydrophilic and lipophilic vitamins are required for maintaining normal cardiac and vascular function, but their deficiencies can contribute to cardiovascular abnormalities. In this regard, a deficiency in the lipophilic vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, and E, as well as in the hydrophilic vitamins, such as vitamin C and B, has been associated with suboptimal cardiovascular function, whereas additional intakes have been suggested to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, and heart failure.

Purpose: In 2023, Osteoporosis Canada updated its 2010 clinical practice guidelines based upon consideration of fracture history, 10-year major osteoporotic fracture (MOF) risk, and BMD T-score in conjunction with age. The 2023 guidelines eliminated risk categories, including the moderate-risk group that did not provide clear treatment guidance.

Oxidative stress is associated with asthma pathobiology. We reported that oxidized phosphatidylcholines (OxPCs) are mediators of oxidative stress and accumulate in the lung in response to allergen challenge. The current study begins to unravel mechanisms for OxPC accumulation in the lung, providing the first insights about how OxPCs underpin allergic airway pathophysiology, and pre-clinical testing of selective neutralization of OxPCs in a murine model of allergic asthma.

In order to investigate the subcellular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of sarpogrelate-a 5-HT receptor antagonist-on diabetic cardiomyopathy, diabetes was induced in rats by injecting streptozotocin (65 mg/kg). Diabetic animals were treated with or without sarpogrelate (5 mg/kg daily) for 6 weeks; diabetic animals were also treated with insulin (10 units/kg daily) for comparison. Elevated plasma levels of glucose and lipids, depressed insulin levels, hemodynamic alterations and cardiac dysfunction in diabetic animals were partially or fully attenuated by sarpogrelate or insulin treatment.
