Cancer develops from abnormal cell growth in the body, causing significant mortalities every year. To date, potent therapeutic approaches have been developed to eradicate tumor cells, but intolerable toxicity and drug resistance can occur in treated patients, limiting the efficiency of existing treatment strategies. Therefore, searching for novel genes critical for cancer progression and therapeutic response is urgently needed for successful cancer therapy.

In many rapidly urbanizing and industrializing countries, atmospheric pollution causes severe environmental problems and compromises the health of humans and ecosystems. Atmospheric emissions, which encompass gases and particulate matter, can be transported back to the earth's surface through atmospheric deposition. Atmospheric deposition supplies chemical species that can serve as nutrients and/or toxins to aquatic ecosystems, resulting in wide-ranging responses of aquatic organisms.

Background: Thyroid hormones (TH) regulate the basal metabolic rate through their receptors THRα and THRβ. TH activates lipid metabolism via THRβ, however, an excess amount of TH can lead to tachycardia, bone loss, and muscle wasting through THRα. In recent years, TH analogs that selectively bind to THRβ have gained attention as new agents for treating dyslipidemia and obesity, which continue to pose major challenges to public health worldwide.

Introduction: Pericytes wrap microvessels and interact with endothelial cells to regulate vascular growth. Though pericyte dropout has been reported in pathological human placentae and mouse models of placental pathology, there has been limited investigation of the role and function of placental pericytes in vascular health and pathology. This study aimed to investigate the angiogenic potential of human placental pericytes relative to other villous cell populations.

GBasis is a free and open-source Python library for molecular property computations based on Gaussian basis functions in quantum chemistry. Specifically, GBasis allows one to evaluate functions expanded in Gaussian basis functions (including molecular orbitals, electron density, and reduced density matrices) and to compute functionals of Gaussian basis functions (overlap integrals, one-electron integrals, and two-electron integrals). Unique features of GBasis include supporting evaluation and analytical integration of arbitrary-order derivatives of the density (matrices), computation of a broad range of (screened) Coulomb interactions, and evaluation of overlap integrals of arbitrary numbers of Gaussians in arbitrarily high dimensions.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) diagnosis and treatment are challenging since symptoms appear late in the disease's progression. Despite clinical risk scores, cardiac event prediction is inadequate, and many at-risk patients are not adequately categorised by conventional risk factors alone. Integrating genomic-based biomarkers (GBBM), specifically those found in plasma and/or serum samples, along with novel non-invasive radiomic-based biomarkers (RBBM) such as plaque area and plaque burden can improve the overall specificity of CVD risk.

Two-dimensional MXenes were discovered in 2011 and, because of their outstanding properties, have attracted significant attention as electrode materials for supercapacitors, rechargeable batteries, and hybrid energy storage devices. Numerous studies were dedicated to identifying feasible charge storage mechanisms in MXenes and investigating the effects of structural and superficial properties on the corresponding mechanisms. The results clarify that interlayer distance and surface termination groups in MXenes significantly determine the deliverable energy and power density in respective energy storage devices.

Our ability to skillfully manipulate objects is supported by rapid corrective responses that are initiated when we experience perturbations that interfere with movement goals. For example, the corrective lifting response is triggered when an object is heavier than expected and fails to lift off the surface. In this situation, the absence of expected sensory feedback signalling lift off initiates, within ~ 90 ms, an increase in lifting force.

Grasping and object manipulation have been considered key domains of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) since the beginning of automation, as they are the most common interactions between systems, or a system and its environment. As the demand for automation is spreading to increasingly complex fields of industry, smart tools with sensors and internal decision-making become necessities. CPS, such as robots and smart autonomous machinery, have been introduced in the meat industry in recent decades; however, the natural diversity of animals, potential anatomical disorders and soft, slippery animal tissues require the use of a wide range of sensors, software and intelligent tools.

Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) for cervical cancer screening (CCS) in lower-resource settings; however, quality varies widely, and it is difficult to maintain a well-trained cadre of providers. The Smartphone-Enhanced Visual Inspection with Acetic acid (SEVIA) program was designed to offer secure sharing of cervical images and real-time supportive supervision to health care workers, in order to improve the quality and accuracy of visual assessment of the cervix for treatment. The purpose of this evaluation was to document early learnings from patients, providers, and higher-level program stakeholders, on barriers and enablers to program implementation.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) represent an effective class of agents for the treatment of several tumor types, including breast cancer (BC), featuring approved molecules such as trastuzumab-emtansine, trastuzumab-deruxtecan, and sacituzumab-govitecan. Immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) also showed activity in selected BC subtypes, and two agents, pembrolizumab and atezolizumab, are currently approved for the treatment of triple-negative BC patients. The potential synergy between ADCs and immunotherapy in BC remains an area of active investigation.

Declarative memory encompasses episodic and semantic divisions. Episodic memory captures singular events with specific spatiotemporal relationships, whereas semantic memory houses context-independent knowledge. Behavioural and functional neuroimaging studies have revealed common and distinct neural substrates of both memory systems, implicating mesiotemporal lobe (MTL) regions such as the hippocampus and distributed neocortices.

In this paper, we use nested tensor-train contractions to compute vibrational and ro-vibrational energy levels of molecules with five and six atoms. At each step, we fully exploit symmetry by using symmetry adapted basis functions obtained from an irreducible tensor method. Contracted basis functions are determined by diagonalizing reduced dimensional Hamiltonian matrices.

In solution, analogues of the Breslow intermediate formed during catalysis by benzoylformate decarboxylase (BFDC) undergo rapid, irreversible fragmentation. The ability of BFDC to prevent this reaction and preserve its cofactor is a striking example of an enzyme 'steering' a reactive intermediate towards a productive pathway. To understand how BFDC suppresses the off-pathway reactivity of this Breslow intermediate, a clear mechanistic understanding of the fragmentation reaction is required.

Quantum photonic integrated circuits, composed of linear-optical elements, offer an efficient way for encoding and processing quantum information on-chip. At their core, these circuits rely on reconfigurable phase shifters, typically constructed from classical components such as thermo- or electro-optical materials, while quantum solid-state emitters such as quantum dots are limited to acting as single-photon sources. Here, we demonstrate the potential of quantum dots as reconfigurable phase shifters.
