Background: Sensory and motor disturbances are characteristic of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Rehabilitation interventions aimed at remediating these disturbances are traditionally exclusively targeted to the affected area. However, there is some evidence of bilateral changes in sensory and motor function associated with unilateral injuries and conditions suggesting central changes.

The Left Right Judgement Task (LRJT) involves determining if an image of the body part is of the left or right side. The LRJT has been utilized as part of rehabilitation treatment programs for persons with pain associated with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Although studies often attribute changes and improvement in LRJT performance to an altered body schema, imaging studies suggest that the LRJT implicates other cortical regions.

Subscapular vascular system based flaps provide excellent solutions for the coverage of a large variety of soft tissue defects. Dorsal decubitus position allows two teams of surgeons to work simultaneously and to harvest the flap in both an effective and safer way. Previously described for orthopaedic surgery, the Spider limb positioning system offers a precious addition to the technique, giving a simple mean to keep the arm in the desired position while harvesting the flap.

Multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) represent a recognized component of care in the treatment of complex conditions such as burns. However, most institutions do not provide adequate support for the formation of these teams. Furthermore, the majority of specialists lack the managerial skills required to create a team and have difficulties finding the proper tools.

Study Objective: In 2007, the WHO adopted surgical safety as the theme for the 2nd global patient safety challenge. Measurement of surgical services was identified as a surgical care area in need of major improvements. Aware of this recommendation, a preliminary study was conducted in our hospital and showed that the incidence of complete necrosis in free flap surgery was 10.

Objective: After the recent publication of the prospective study of feasibility of mammary reduction in ambulatory setting by Guilbert et al., we would like to present our North-American experience and share some data from the last year.
Methods: We obtained four data from our medical archives: the total number of reduction mammaplasties done during the last year, the number of cases done in ambulatory setting, the number of cases done with hospitalization, and the number of conversions (ambulatory cases transformed into hospitalizations lasting more than 24 hours)
Results: Two hundred and eighteen bilateral mammary reductions were completed between March 2011 and April 2012.

The microsurgical failure rate is almost constant for several decades. We present two case reports describing a novel method of free flap salvage using angioradiological techniques. Our first case shows the potential utility of in situ thrombolysis, our second case describes the first use of stents within a microsurgical anastomosis.

Purpose: Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is a powerful analytical tool that allows the study of interactions between commonly used biomaterials and the human body. In conventional SEM (HiVac), hydrated biological samples cannot be analyzed in their natural state and must be dried and metallized. The primary goal of this study is to present recent developments in SEM, notably Environmental SEM (ESEM).

Background. For the burn surgeon, the treatment of necrotizing soft tissue infections is one of the most demanding surgical emergencies, requiring "radical excisions" of the infected tissue and reconstruction. During the infection period, the excised sites are treated with application of gauzes soaked in saline solution.

Background: Learning plastic surgery in Montreal is different from learning plastic surgery in a French university. In Canada, all residency programs are accredited by a national structure: the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. We tried to highlight the differences that exist between the French and a North American academic system.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the value of discontinuing antiplatelet treatment prior to surgery for skin cancer with loss of skin of up to 10 cm in diameter. The study hypothesis postulated equivalence between discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy and continuation of these drugs during the perioperative period with regard to risk of cutaneous complications.
Patients And Methods: This was a prospective, randomised study comparing two groups of patients on long-term antiplatelet treatment scheduled for surgery for skin carcinoma.
