Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to develop a list of items for potential inclusion in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines for network meta-analysis (NMA), scoping reviews (ScRs), and rapid reviews (RRs).

Introduction: The PRISMA extensions for NMA and ScRs were published in 2015 and 2018. However, since then, their methodologies and innovations, including automation, have evolved.

Background: Understanding the dietary patterns of populations is crucial in addressing chronic health conditions that are influenced by diet and lifestyle. We aimed to identify the dietary patterns among adult Caucasian Canadians and examine their associations with socioeconomic and sociodemographic factors and chronic health conditions.

Sevoflurane and its metabolic byproduct compound A induce nephrotoxicity: a systematic review and meta-analysis of animal studies.

Animal models investigating sevoflurane or compound A and renal function serve as the initial basis for concerns regarding renal injury following sevoflurane anesthesia and subsequent recommendations of minimum fresh gas flow, but this evidence basis has not been critically appraised. Primary literature searches were performed in MEDLINE OVID, PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the International HTA Database, CINAHL, and Web of Science to identify randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies in animals utilizing sevoflurane or compound A. The primary outcomes included renal function as determined by blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, creatinine clearance, and urine volume.

Alpha and Theta Oscillations Associated With Behavioral Phenotypes of Pain-Attention Interaction.

Purpose: Pain is inherently salient and so draws our attention in addition to impacting performance on attention-demanding tasks. Individual variability in pain-attention interactions can be assessed by two kinds of behavioral phenotypes that quantify how individuals prioritize pain versus attentional needs. The intrinsic attention to pain (IAP) measure quantifies the degree to which a person attends to pain (high-IAP) or mind-wanders away from pain (low-IAP).

Bridging Needs and Expectations of Individuals With Physical Disabilities and Community Services Stakeholders for the Cocreation of an Adapted Physical Activity Platform in Virtual Reality: Qualitative Study.

Background: Physical activity supports the health and well-being of individuals with physical disabilities. Despite the significance of engaging in physical activity, barriers faced by individuals with disabilities, such as limited access to adapted facilities and lack of transportation, can restrict their participation. Community organizations play a role in addressing these challenges, but virtual reality (VR) also offers a way to diversify adapted activities.

Periprocedural Skincare for Nonenergy and Nonablative Energy-Based Aesthetic Procedures in Patients With Skin of Color.

Background: Anti-aging facial procedures with nonenergy and nonablative energy devices are increasingly popular among patients with skin of color (SOC). Algorithms have addressed the measures to reduce the side effects related to aesthetic procedures, but few focus on SOC patients and periprocedural integrating skincare.

Methods: Eight dermatologists from Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Mexico, and the USA participated in a meeting and an online follow-up to develop an algorithm for periprocedural skincare for nonenergy and nonablative energy-based facial aesthetic procedures in patients with SOC.

Adult Neurogenesis in the Subventricular Zone of Patients with Huntington's and Parkinson's Diseases and following Long-Term Treatment with Deep Brain Stimulation.

Objective: Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases are characterized by progressive neuronal loss. Previous studies using human postmortem tissues have shown the impact of neurodegenerative disorders on adult neurogenesis. The extent to which adult neural stem cells are activated in the subventricular zone and whether therapeutic treatments such as deep brain stimulation promote adult neurogenesis remains unclear.

Optokinetic After-Nystagmus: A Marker for Migraine? A Prospective Observational Study.

Introduction: Vestibular migraine (VM), particularly its chronic variant, poses a diagnostic challenge. Patients suffering from VM may not have the characteristic headaches associated with the dizziness. In these cases, a marker for migraine pathology in general could help appropriately diagnose certain types of dizziness as migrainous despite these patients not meeting current diagnostic criteria for VM.

Effect of A-DNA and B-DNA Conformation on the Interplay between Local Excitations and Charge-Transfer States in the Ultrafast Decay of Guanine-Cytosine Stacked Dimers: A Quantum Dynamical Investigation.

We here simulate in the gas phase the population dynamics of guanine/cytosine (GC) and cytosine/guanine (CG) stacked dimers in B-DNA and A-DNA arrangement, following excitation in the lowest-energy band, and considering the four lowest-energy ππ* bright excited states, the three lowest-energy π* states, and the G → C charge-transfer (CT) state. We resort to a generalized Linear Vibronic Coupling (LVC) model parametrized with time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) computations, exploiting a fragment-based diabatization and we run nonadiabatic quantum dynamical simulations with the multilayer version of the Multiconfigurational Time-Dependent Hartree (ML-MCTDH) approach. G → C CT results in a major decay process for GC in B-DNA but less in A-DNA arrangement, where also the population transfer to the lowest-energy excited state localized on C is an important intermonomer process.

Background: Storage of packed red blood cells (RBCs) for transfusion leads to biochemical and morphological changes, increasing hemolysis risk. Urate levels in blood bags at donation contribute to the molecular heterogeneity and hemolytic propensity of stored RBCs. However, studies to date have been underpowered to investigate at scale the contribution of donor demographics and genetics to the heterogeneity in urate levels across donations.

Mental Health-Related Disability Days and Costs Among Patients with Treatment-Resistant Depression Initiated on Esketamine Nasal Spray and Conventional Therapies in the USA.

Introduction: Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is related to disproportionate unemployment and productivity burden in the USA. The current study describes real-world mental health (MH)-related disability days and costs of patients with TRD initiated on esketamine nasal spray or conventional therapies in the USA.

Methods: Adults with TRD were selected from Merative™ MarketScan Commercial database (from January 2016 to January 2023) and classified into four cohorts (esketamine, ECT [electroconvulsive therapy], TMS [transcranial magnetic stimulation], and SGA [second-generation antipsychotics] augmentation) based on therapy initiated (index date) on/after 5 March 2019 (esketamine approval date for TRD).

Selective toxicity of a novel antimicrobial peptide Acidocin 4356 against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii in human cell-based in vitro infection models.

Prior studies examined Acidocin 4356's antibacterial and antivirulence effects against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including cell membrane penetration abilities. Building on prior research, an in-vitro co-culture of human cells was established to evaluate the selectivity of Acidocin (ACD) by concurrently cultivating human cells and bacterial pathogens. This study evaluated the antibacterial effectiveness of ACD against Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Effects of converting cropland to grassland on greenhouse gas emissions from peat and organic-rich soils in temperate and boreal climates: a systematic review.

Background: To align with climate goals, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture must be reduced significantly. Cultivated peatlands are an important source of such emissions. One proposed measure is to convert arable fields on peatlands to grassland, as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) default emission factors (EF) for organic soils are lower from grasslands.

Serum β-secretase 1 (sBACE1) activity in subjective cognitive decline: an exploratory study.

β-Secretase-1 (BACE1) plays a key role in the regulation of cerebral amyloid-β homeostasis, being involved in amyloidogenic and, as recently found, amyloidolytic pathways. Growing evidence indicates that increased serum BACE1 (sBACE1) activity might represent an early biomarker for Alzheimer's disease. Here, we tested the hypothesis that an increase in sBACE1 activity may already occur in individuals with subjective cognitive decline (SCD).

Glucagon-like peptides agonists promote maturation of intestinal organoids derived from neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis.

Purpose: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) majorly affects premature infants, causing not only necrosis and inflammation but also feeding intolerance and gastrointestinal dysmotility, hinting at gut hormone secretion impairment. Particularly critical is the gestation period before 26 weeks where intestinal hormonal activity is partially developed, rendering preterm neonates highly susceptible to NEC. Emerging evidence suggests a role of gut hormones, especially glucagon-like peptides (GLP) in ileum development.

Cannabis legalization: a call for the integration of main health and crime indicator domains towards comprehensive policy impact assessments.

Several jurisdictions have implemented legalization policies for non-medical cannabis, mainly towards improving public health and reducing illegal cannabis markets and crime. As some legalization initiatives are approaching maturity, conducting policy impact assessments has become timely. Emerging data, however, suggest rather mixed pictures for key outcomes and indicators.

Quantifying intratumoral biomarker heterogeneity in tubo-ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma to optimize clinical translation.

Intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) is spatial, phenotypic, or molecular differences within the same tumor that have important implications for accurate tumor classification and assessment of predictive biomarkers. The Canadian Ovarian Experimental Unified Resource (COEUR) has created a cohort of 437 FFPE tissue specimens from 108 tubo-ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) patients to quantify ITH across the anatomical sites and between primary and recurrence. We quantified the ITH of six clinically used immunohistochemical diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers (WT1, p53, p16, PR, CD8, and Ki67).

Proteasome inhibition enhances oncolytic reovirus therapy in multiple myeloma independently of its direct cytotoxic effects.

Background: Reovirus (RV) is an oncolytic virus with natural tropism for cancer cells. We previously showed that RV administration in multiple myeloma (MM) patients was safe, but disease control associated with viral replication in the cancer cells was not observed. The combination with proteasome inhibitors (PIs) has shown to enhance RV therapeutic activity, but the mechanisms of action have not been fully elucidated.

Background: Aerobic capacity measured by maximal oxygen uptake (VOmax) is related to functional capacity and is a strong independent predictor of all-cause and disease-specific mortality. Sex-specific cardiac and vascular responses to endurance training have been observed, however, their relative contributions to VOmax are less understood. The purpose of this study was to evaluate sex-specific ventricular-vascular interactions associated with VOmax in healthy males and females.

Outcomes of operative and nonoperative management of myotendinous Achilles tendon ruptures: a systematic review.

Background: Achilles tendon ruptures are the most common lower extremity tendinous rupture. While there has been extensive research into the management of mid-substance Achilles tendon ruptures, there is a paucity of literature on the management of myotendinous Achilles tendon ruptures.
