Understanding Patient Registries for Diabetes: A Scoping Review of Published Literature.

Diabetes registries have grown in prevalence and incorporated patient engagement opportunities to support diabetes management. We aimed to understand the goals, purpose, and context for diabetes registries defined as patient-focused and how people with diabetes are engaging with these registries. We searched Pubmed, MEDLINE, Embase, and Emcare using the following criteria: (1) the population is people with diabetes mellitus, including type 1, type 2, and/or gestational diabetes; and (2) the study describes a patient focused registry.

Collaborating is increasingly characterized by working across domains and organizations. Teams rapidly form and dissolve, actors and settings frequently change, yet most academic research focuses on stable organizations and team configurations with familiar domains. Background: With the accelerated increase in the population of seniors aged 60 years or older in Saudi Arabia, understanding the utilization of senior residential care homes is crucial for improving service delivery and policy planning to meet the care transformation objectives of Vision 2030.

Objective: To assess the distribution and determinants of senior residential care home utilization across Saudi Arabia's 13 administrative regions, focusing on predictors of functional dependency among different socio-demographic groups.

Methods: This study analyzed data from 283 Saudi individuals aged ≥65 admitted to social residential care homes in 2021.

The Influence of Migration Timing and Local Conditions on Reproductive Timing in Arctic-Breeding Birds.

For birds breeding in the Arctic, nest success is affected by the timing of nest initiation, which is partially determined by local conditions such as snow cover. However, conditions during the non-breeding season can carry over to affect the timing of breeding. We used tracking and breeding data from 248 individuals of 8 species and subspecies of Arctic-breeding shorebirds to estimate how the timing of nest initiation is related to local conditions like snowmelt phenology versus prior conditions, measured by the timing and speed of migration.

Background: Child maltreatment is a significant social problem impacting both health and society, with severe and enduring consequences. Certain children, such as those with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism, may be more at risk of experiencing maltreatment. Introduction: Autism is characterized by social communication differences and repetitive behaviors, affecting 1%-2% of children. Irritability is a disabling condition affecting 19%-80% of autistic children. While extensive research has focused on interventions to reduce irritability symptoms, the underlying correlates remain poorly understood.

Bullying victimization and mental health before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: Bullying victimization is associated with numerous mental health difficulties yet studies from early in the COVID-19 pandemic revealed significant decreases in bullying victimization but significant increases in mental health difficulties for many children and adolescents. It is unclear whether the decrease in bullying victimization early in the pandemic translated to weaker associations between bullying victimization and mental health difficulties.

Methods: Using a population-based design, we examined whether the correlations between bullying victimization and mental health difficulties were significantly weaker in magnitude during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to before the pandemic in a sample of 6,578 Canadian students in grades 4-12.

Child maltreatment during the COVID-19 pandemic: implications for child and adolescent mental health.

As societies worldwide addressed the numerous challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, a troubling concern emerged-the possible rise of child maltreatment, which is a pernicious risk factor for child and adolescent mental health difficulties. This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the many changes and challenges associated with the pandemic influenced worldwide occurrences of child maltreatment and, subsequently, the mental health of children and adolescents. First, we present the well-established evidence regarding the impact of child maltreatment on the mental health of children and adolescents both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spontaneous blinking and brain health in aging: Large-scale evaluation of blink-related oscillations across the lifespan.

Blink-related oscillations (BROs) are newly discovered neurophysiological brainwave responses associated with spontaneous blinking, and represent environmental monitoring and awareness processes as the brain evaluates new visual information appearing after eye re-opening. BRO responses have been demonstrated in healthy young adults across multiple task states and are modulated by both task and environmental factors, but little is known about this phenomenon in aging. To address this, we undertook the first large-scale evaluation of BRO responses in healthy aging using the Cambridge Centre for Aging and Neuroscience (Cam-CAN) repository, which contains magnetoencephalography (MEG) data from a large sample ( = 457) of healthy adults across a broad age range (18-88) during the performance of a simple target detection task.

We conducted individual-level pooled analyses and meta-analyses of cognitive assessments from eight prospective cohorts, comprising 2,105 patients and 1,432 controls from Argentina, Canada, Chile, Greece, India, Italy, Russia, and the UK. The meta-analysis found no differences by country of origin.

Comparing three summary indices to assess diet quality of Canadian children: a call for consensus.

Purpose: The Healthy Eating Index-Canada 2015 (HEI-C 2015), Diet Quality Index-International (DQI-I), and Healthy Eating Food Index 2019 (HEFI-2019) are commonly used to summarize the quality of Canadian diets. This paper sought to compare these three diet quality indices with respect to their ability to capture diets of different quality in Canadian children and to discriminate between population subgroups.

Methods: Data were collected in school-based surveys from grade 4-6 students (9-12 years old) in western Canada through 24-h dietary recall in 2016 ( = 336), 2018 ( = 454), and 2020/2021 ( = 909).

Care coordination for people living with serious mental illness: understanding the caregiver's perspective.

Introduction: Family caregivers of people living with serious mental illness such as bipolar disorder, psychosis and schizophrenia, are continuously burdened with caregiving, following the complexities of navigating the mental health system for their loved ones. The aim of the study was to understand the perspectives of caregivers about care coordination for people living with serious mental illness, highlighting the current landscape and new directions across Canada.

Methods: In this co-designed participatory qualitative research, caregivers of people living with serious mental illness, and service providers were engaged and purposively sampled across Canada.

Pharmacogenetic Testing in Treatment-resistant Panic Disorder: a Preliminary Analysis.

Background: Many pharmacological treatments are considered effective in the treatment of panic disorder (PD), however, about 20 to 40% of the patients have treatment-resistant PD. Pharmacogenetics could explain why some patients are treatment-resistant.

Objective: Our objective was to gather preliminary data on the clinical usefulness of pharmacogenetic testing in this disorder.

Psychosocial wellbeing and risk perception of older adults during COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria: perspectives on the role of social workers.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic presented a 'double-edged sword' for older adults: not only were they more susceptible to the virus, but its broader consequences also exacerbated other challenges, particularly those related to psychosocial well-being. Limited evidence exists on how older adults perceive the pandemic and its impact on their well-being and the role of social workers in addressing these challenges, particularly in resource-limited settings like Nigeria.

Aim: This study explored older adults' perceived risks regarding COVID-19, its impact on their psychosocial well-being, and the role of social workers in addressing these challenges in Nigeria.

Application of low-dose FDG-PET/MRI for quantification of lung changes in pediatric patients with cystic fibrosis: a new inflammatory index.

Background: Clinical severity and progression of lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF) are significantly influenced by the degree of lung inflammation. Non-invasive quantitative diagnostic tools are desirable to differentiate structural and inflammatory lung changes in order to help prevent chronic airway disease. This might also be helpful for the evaluation of longitudinal effects of novel therapeutics.

Evaluation of the recombinant protein -TSP-2 for the serological diagnosis of imported urogenital schistosomiasis and comparison with commercially available tests.

Different agencies have emphasized the need to evaluate current serological methods for screening patients with suspected urogenital schistosomiasis. However, there is still a lack of evidence regarding the most appropriate methods for this purpose. Here we assessed the diagnostic efficacy of a newly developed serological technique that utilizes the recombinant protein -TSP-2, applied to the urine and serum of migrants suspected of having urogenital schistosomiasis.
