Simultaneous triple peptic perforations: a report of an extremely rare case.

J Surg Case Rep

January 2025

Faculty of Medicine, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, 179 Nguyen Van Cu Street, An Khanh Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho 900000, Vietnam.

Peptic ulcer perforations are common in surgical emergencies, whereas double perforations are rare, and triple peptic perforations are even exceedingly rare, with only a few cases documented. While undetected perforation during surgery can be fatal, the absence of standardized procedures for managing multiple perforations remains an ongoing challenge for surgeons. Herein, we describe a rare case of simultaneous triple peptic perforations in an elderly man with a prolonged history of analgesic and corticosteroid use.

Background: Aging population is a significant issue in Viet Nam and across the globe. Elderly individuals are at higher risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those with diabetes. Several studies found that the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) determined using creatinine-based equations was not as accurate as that determined using cystatin C-based equations.

Background: Undernutrition in children is predominantly linked to lack of a balanced diet resulting from inadequate nutrition intake. This form of malnutrition remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality under-five children, especially prevalent in low-income countries. Understanding the specific factors contributing to undernutrition among this group, particularly those associated with caregivers, is vital yet insufficiently explored.

Vertebro-vertebral arteriovenous fistula (VV-AVF) is an uncommon vascular disorder characterized by an abnormal direct connection between the extracranial vertebral artery (VA), as well as the first and second branches of subclavian arteries, and the draining veins of the paravertebral venous plexus. Endovascular occlusion or surgical ligation of the high-flow arteriovenous fistula is the main goal of treatment for VV-AVF, but there are no guidelines for the best treatment to date. Endovascular treatment is the primary treatment procedure due to its safety, effectiveness, and simplicity.

Introduction: The Longan fruit tree of the Vietnam Mekong Delta is grown in raised beds to improve water drainage during the rainy season and can live as long as 100 years.

Objective: This research explores the extent to which the soil microorganisms as well as soil physical and chemical properties of these raised beds degrade over a period of 60 years under traditional management practices.

Materials And Methods: Raised bed topsoil samples at depths of 0-20 cm were obtained from four different Longan orchards raised bed age groups: group 1) 15-25 years (L1-L5); group 2) 26-37 years (L6-L10); group 3) 38-45 years (L11-L15); and group 4) 46-60 years.

Introduction And Importance: Basal cell carcinoma is the most common non-melanoma skin cancer, tightly connected to ultraviolet exposure, and typically occurs on sun-exposed areas, including the nose. Reconstructing defects in the nasal tip following the removal of basal cell carcinoma lesions presents significant challenges, requiring a balance between completely removing the cancerous cells and achieving an optimal aesthetic result, especially since this area is central to the face.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 62-year-old male patient with a 2 × 3 cm tumor located at the nasal tip, initially diagnosed as a benign vascular tumor based on clinical examination and imaging results.

Background: Septic arthritis is a rare but devastating complication after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). While early treatment can prevent significant graft complications, outcomes are often inferior to those in uncomplicated ACLR. Furthermore, whether to retain or remove the graft after infection remains debatable.

Survivors of COVID-19 are susceptible to diminished health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and adverse psychological health, which may be exacerbated by their experiences of fear and the impact of the pandemic itself. This study aims to identify distinct fear and impact patterns related to the COVID-19 pandemic among survivors through latent profile analysis (LPA) and examine the associations of fear and impact patterns with post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and HRQoL. A total of 5,890 Vietnamese COVID-19 survivors completed the COVID-19 Impact Battery- Disability Scale (CIB-D), the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCoV-19 S), the Impact of Event Scale-Revised for PTSS, and the 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36) for HRQoL.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how different concentrations of diluted seawater (SW) in drinking water affect the health and habits of dairy goats in tropical regions, where saline intrusion is a growing concern due to climate change.
  • Twenty dairy goats were divided into four groups and were given varying levels of saline water over a period of 49 days, with daily measurements of food and water intake and blood samples taken.
  • Results showed that while dry matter intake wasn't affected, higher salinity significantly impacted water consumption and caused changes in urinary excretion and physiological responses, indicating that goats can adapt to low and moderate salinity but struggle more with high salinity levels.
