Highlights of ionospheric investigations at Comandante Ferraz Brazilian Antarctic Station.

The ionospheric investigations have improved our understanding of the space weather role in the upper atmosphere conditions, particularly at higher latitudes where the geospace phenomena print their signatures. The simultaneous observations using multi-instruments have improved our knowledge of the coupling processes inside the ionosphere, and their connection with the magnetosphere and neutral atmosphere processes under the space weather phenomena. The ionosphere probing at EACF started on 1986 using an analogical very low frequency (VLF) system, and after the year 2004 using digital VLF system, global navigation satellite system (GNSS), riometers and Canadian digital ionosonde (CADI).

Classical Physics and Blackbody Radiation.

We investigate the properties of the blackbody spectrum by direct numerical solution of the classical equations of motion of a one-dimensional model that contains the essential general features of the field-matter interaction. Our results, which do not rely on any statistical assumption, show that the classical blackbody spectrum exhibits remarkable properties: (i) a quasistationary state characterized by scaling properties, (ii) consistency with the Stefan-Boltzmann law, and (iii) a high-frequency cutoff. Our Letter is a preliminary step in the understanding of statistical properties of infinite-dimensional systems.

Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease with Extracellular Vesicles from Mesenchymal Stem Cells and CD133 Expanded Cells: A Comparative Preclinical Analysis.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by structural abnormalities and the progressive loss of kidney function. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) from human umbilical cord tissue (hUCT)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and expanded human umbilical cord blood (hUCB)-derived CD133 cells (eCD133) maintain the characteristics of the parent cells, providing a new form of cell-free treatment. We evaluated the effects of EVs from hUCT-derived MSCs and hUCB-derived CD133 cells on rats with CDK induced by an adenine-enriched diet.

Comparing exercises with and without electromyographic biofeedback in subacromial pain syndrome: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Deficits in movement and muscle activation of scapulohumeral joint are related to Subacromial Pain Syndrome. Electromyography biofeedback during exercise may enhance muscle activation and coordination, and consequently improve pain and shoulder function.

Methods: This study compared the effects of an exercise protocol with and without using electromyographic biofeedback on pain, function and movement of the shoulder complex in subjects with Subacromial Pain Syndrome.

Mental health, art, and deinstitutionalization: an aesthetic-poetic-theatrical account of the city's occupation.

This study aimed to report the experience of an aesthetic, poetic, and theatrical production of the city's occupation from a device of the Psychosocial Care Network to offer space for sociability, production, and cultural intervention. This is an account of an experience from the Social and Cultural Center (CECCO) in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, within madness and mental health deinstitutionalization. The intervention "The Little Prince occupies the Ribeira" was inspired by the work of author Saint-Exupéry.

Knowledge, territories, and drug use: street ways of life and reinventing care.

Through the stigmatization of drug-using People Living on the Streets (PLS) and the reproduction of violence in health services, this paper reflected on this community and the street space beyond the view of decrepitude with which they are usually seen. In this sense, the research contours were shaped from the objective of knowing practice and knowledge constructed in the care processes among the drug-using PLS. A qualitative study was designed, using the triangulation of participant observation techniques, from the inclusion of one of the researchers in a "Street Clinic" (Consultório na Rua), in an inland city of the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, and two types of in-depth individual interviews: the episodic interview and the narrative interview.

Phylogeographic studies primarily focus on the major role of landscape topography in driving lineage diversification. However, populational phylogeographic breaks may also occur as a result of either niche conservatism or divergence, in the absence of geographic barriers to gene flow. Furthermore, these two factors are not mutually exclusive and can act in concert, making it challenging to evaluate their relative importances on explaining genetic variation in nature.

The benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the main source of lower urinary tract symptoms. The BPH is a common age-dependent disease and tamsulosin is an α-adrenoceptor blocker widely prescribed for BPH. Beyond the common adverse effects of tamsulosin, increased diagnosis of dementia after prescription was observed.

Investigations on the adsorption, wettability and zeta potential of anionic surfactant in limestone.

The understanding of the mechanisms that affect oil production in carbonaceous reservoirs has become increasingly necessary, particularly in limestone, which mostly features oil wettability properties that diminishes petroleum recovery. The objective of this work was to investigate the ability of anionic surfactant (coconut oil derived soap) to adsorb in limestone in order to promote wettability change. The finite-bath technique was employed with changes in temperature, mass of adsorbent material (limestone), contact time and surfactant concentration.

Applications on electromagnetic waves in the field of biotelemetry have increased in the latest years, being used to prevent, diagnose, and treatment of several diseases. In this context, biotelemetry allows minimally invasive monitoring of the physiologic, improving comfort and patient care and significantly reducing hospital costs. Aiming to assist the mineral bone density classification, through a radio frequency signal (RF), for a later diagnosis of osteoporosis, Osseus was proposed in 2018.

Clinical and genetic spectrum of a large cohort of patients with δ-sarcoglycan muscular dystrophy.

Sarcoglycanopathies include four subtypes of autosomal recessive limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMDR3, LGMDR4, LGMDR5 and LGMDR6) that are caused, respectively, by mutations in the SGCA, SGCB, SGCG and SGCD genes. Delta-sarcoglycanopathy (LGMDR6) is the least frequent and is considered an ultra-rare disease. Our aim was to characterize the clinical and genetic spectrum of a large international cohort of LGMDR6 patients and to investigate whether or not genetic or protein expression data could predict a disease's severity.

Photocatalytic degradation of Novacron blue and Novacron yellow textile dyes by the TiO/palygorskite nanocomposite.

The photocatalytic discoloration of industrial dyes, Novacron blue (NB) and Novacron yellow (NY), was investigated using composites based on TiO and natural palygorskite (Pal-Ti10 and Pal-Ti30). The method consisted of synthesizing the composites starting from a physical mixture of TiO and natural palygorskite in the presence of alcohol, for impregnation through calcination under conditions of temperature equal to 450 °C and atmospheric air. The characterization techniques used in this work were FTIR, XRD, XRF, SEM, particle size analysis and zeta potential.

The shape of the secondary sexual characters is, traditionally, used to discriminate the marine shrimps at the species level. However, the qualitative evaluation of structures that are morphologically variable in the taxonomy of species can favor misunderstandings and misidentifications. These possibilities of taxonomic inaccuracies are especially alarming when there is a need to evaluate the invasion of introduced species.

Artisanal fisheries of native spiny lobster Panulirus meripurpuratus and smoothtail spiny lobster Panulirus laevicauda in the northeast region of Brazil.

Spiny lobsters (Family Palinuridae) are a popular seafood in Brazil. We characterize the fishing activity and analyze the population of lobster species captured in the coast of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Northeast Brazil. We monitored the landings of lobster fishermen at the start of the fishing season, from May 24 to November 21, in 2010, at Pirangi beach, the main landing point in the metropolitan area of Natal.

Urinary Incontinence in Physically Active Older Women of Northeast Brazil.

Low- and moderate-impact physical activity (PA) is associated with the prevention of urinary incontinence (UI). The objective of the cross-sectional study presented herein is to analyze the factors associated with UI in physically older active women who participate in senior community groups. The variable UI was measured by the International Consultation Incontinence Questionnaire Short Form (ICIQ-SF).

COVID Health Structure Index: The Vulnerability of Brazilian Microregions.

Many developing countries have highly unequal health systems across their regions. The pandemic of COVID-19 brought an additional challenge, as hospital structures equipped with doctors, intensive care units and respirators are not available to a sufficient extent in all regions. Using Data Envelopment Analysis, we create a COVID Index to verify whether the hospital structures in 543 Brazilian microregions are adequate to deal with COVID-19 and to verify whether public policies were implemented in the right direction.

The clinical spectrum of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) is determined by the interplay between environmental and genetic factors, most of which remains unknown. ERAP1, ERAP2 and LNPEP genes code for multifunctional aminopeptidases involved with antigen processing and degradation of small peptides such as angiotensin II (Ang II), vasopressin and oxytocin. We aimed to test for associations between genetic variants in aminopeptidases and HDP.

Hydrometeorological conditions in the semiarid and east coast regions of Northeast Brazil in the 2012-2017 period.

Various studies have identified that between 2012 and 2017, Brazil's semiarid region suffered severe drought. However, few studies have analyzed whether this drought also affected the eastern coastal region of Northeast Brazil (ENEB). Therefore, the objective of this work is to identify rainfall anomalies in these regions and verify the hydrometeorological impact on reservoirs in the 2012-2017 interval.
