Overweight and obesity have become international public health problems, so there is an urgent need to implement effective interventions that prevent these concerning health issues. Designing personalized (tailored) dietary communications has become one of the most effective tools in reducing unhealthy eating behavior, when compared with one-size-fits-all messages (untailored). However, more research is required to gain a complete understanding of the underlying mechanisms by which tailored nutritional messages elicit reductions in unhealthy dietary behavior.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of biofunctionalization with two TGF-β1 inhibitor peptides, P17 and P144, on osseointegration of CP-Ti dental implants. A total of 36 implants (VEGA, Klockner®) with 3.5 × 8 mm internal connection were used in this study, divided in three groups: (1) control group (n = 12), (2) implants which surfaces were biofunctionalized with P17 peptide inhibitor (n = 12), (3) implants with surfaces biofunctionalized by P144 peptide (n = 12).

The aim of this research was to determine the osseointegration of two presentations of biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) biomaterial-one untreated and another submitted to biofunctionalization with a TGF-β1 inhibitor peptide, P144, on dental alveolus. A synthetic bone graft was used, namely, (i) Maxresorb (Botiss Klockner) ( = 12), and (ii) Maxresorb (Botiss Klockner) biofunctionalized with P144 peptide ( = 12). Both bone grafts were implanted in the two hemimandibles of six beagle dogs in the same surgical time, immediately after tooth extraction.

Despite the enormous growth of e-commerce, consumers still come against risk-related barriers while carrying out online purchases. Specialists of e-commerce have therefore explored the facets of online risk perception with the aim of identifying which has the greatest impact. There is, nonetheless, no consensus as to the facets of risk perception or their relative importance.

This article explores neural and self-report responses to gender congruence in product-voice combinations in commercials. An fMRI study was carried out in which participants (n = 30) were presented with gender-targeted pictures of characteristic male or female products accompanied by either gender congruent or incongruent voices. The findings show that attitudes are more positive toward commercials with gender congruent than with gender incongruent product-voice combinations.

This papers aims to verify to what extent the presentation of a restaurant dish and the origin of its food provoke reactions in the consumer's brain during the visualization and the decision-making process, from an exploratory approach. The two independent variables singled out for study were whether the presentation was well or poorly presented and if the ingredients were ecological or non-ecological. The results applying the functional magnetic resonance image (fMRI) methodology reveal that well-presented dishes activate areas in the brain linked to the network of emotions indicating that the visualization in restaurant menus is not a purely cognitive and self-reflexive process but retains a strong affective component.

Flavonoids possess several biological/pharmacological activities including anticancer, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antioxidant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of flavonoids on macrophage physiology. For this purpose we selected some flavonoids belonging to the most common and abundant groups (flavonols--quercetin and kaempferol; flavones--diosmetin, apigenin, chrysin and luteolin; isoflavones--genistein and daidzein and flavanones--hesperetin).

The aetiology of Crohn's disease--a chronic intestinal disorder that involves an immune response against the commensal bacterial flora--remains fiercely debated. Two hypotheses exist: (i) those who think that the disease is caused by genetic defects that produce exaggerated innate responses to the flora, leading to excessive inflammation; and (ii) those who think that the genetic defects cause diminished inflammatory responses, in turn leading to uncontrolled accumulation of the inducer stimuli and, thus, activation of the adaptive immune system. Importantly, Marks and colleagues have recently investigated the immune response of Crohn's disease patients directly, convincingly showing impaired innate immunity.

Purpose: The short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) are produced via anaerobic bacterial fermentation of dietary fiber within the colonic lumen. Among them, butyrate is thought to protect against colon carcinogenesis. However, few studies analyze the effects of butyrate, and other SCFA, on normal epithelial cells and on epithelial regeneration during disease recovery.

Background And Aims: Previous studies have described the intestinal anti-inflammatory effects exerted by the bioflavonoid quercitrin (QR) and by an n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)-enriched diet in experimental models of rat colitis. The aim of the present study was to test if the combination of both treatments would result in an improvement in the intestinal anti-inflammatory effect achieved separately.
Methods: Colitis was induced in female Wistar rats by incorporating dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) in drinking water at 5% (w/v) for 5 days and at 2% (w/v) for the following 10 days.

Background And Aims: Inflammatory bowel disease is associated with intestinal oxidative stress. In the present study we test the preventative effect of Lactobacillus fermentum, a probiotic that produces per se glutathione, in the trinitrobenzenesulphonic acid (TNBS) model of rat colitis.
Methods: Colitis was induced in rats by intracolonic administration of 10 mg of TNBS dissolved in 0.

Cancer of the oral cavity and oropharynx is a major public health problem in Spain. Tobacco and alcohol have been identified as the two major risk factors for oral cancer in most western populations. Other risk factors include diets low in fruits and vegetables, but the impact of dietary habits on the risk of these cancers has never been assessed in Spain.
