Department of Drug Sciences, University of Pavia, Viale Taramelli 12, 27100 Pavia, Italy.

In recent decades, the demand for replacement of damaged or broken tissues has increased; this poses the attention on problems related to low donor availability. For this reason, researchers focused their attention on the field of tissue engineering, which allows the development of scaffolds able to mimic the tissues' extracellular matrix. However, tissue replacement and regeneration are complex since scaffolds need to guarantee an adequate hierarchical structured morphology as well as adequate mechanical, chemical, and physical properties to stand the stresses and enhance the new tissue formation.

Departamento de Análisis Geográfico Regional y Geografía Física, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, Campus Universitario de Cartuja, University of Granada, 18071, Granada, Spain.

Evaluation of grazing impacts on land degradation processes is a difficult task due to the heterogeneity and complex interacting factors involved. In this paper, we designed a new methodology based on a predictive index of grazing susceptibility to land degradation index (GSLDI) built on artificial intelligence to assess land degradation susceptibility in areas affected by small ruminants (SRs) of sheep and goats grazing. The data for model training, validation, and testing consisted of sampling points (erosion and no-erosion) taken from aerial imagery.

In the present work, we evaluated the potential of maslinic acid (MA) to improve currently available keratinocyte culture methods for use in skin tissue engineering. Results showed that MA can increase cell proliferation and WST-1 activity of human keratinocytes after 24, 48, and 72 h, especially at the concentration of 5 μg/ml, without affecting cell viability. This effect was associated to a significant increase of KI-67 protein expression and upregulation of several genes associated to cell proliferation (PCNA) and differentiation (cytokeratins, intercellular junctions and basement membrane related genes).

Mind, Brain and Behaviour Research Center and Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Granada, Campus Universitario de Cartuja, 18011 Granada, Spain.

Bearing in mind that cognitive control is a complex function that includes several processes, it is not clear exactly which ones deteriorate with age. In fact, controversial results have been found. For example, some studies indicate that age-related deficits are observed in proactive and not in reactive control, others show that it is reactive control that is impaired and not proactive control, and some studies find no deficits at all (e.

Department of Environmental Protection, Estación Experimental del Zaidín, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, Granada, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) serves as a key auxin influencing plant growth, and it also facilitates interactions between plants and certain bacteria by regulating bacterial functions.
  • A specific strain of Pseudomonas putida shows chemotaxis towards IAA, independent of its ability to metabolize the auxin, and this motion is driven by the PcpI chemoreceptor.
  • PcpI can detect various aromatic compounds, including salicylic acid, and is the first identified bacterial receptor responsive to multiple phytohormones, highlighting the complex signaling roles of IAA and salicylic acid across different life forms.
