Sigma-1 receptor (S1R) is involved in a large array of biological functions due to its ability to interact with various proteins and ion channels. Crystal structures of human S1R revealed the trimeric organization for which each protomer comprises the ligand binding pocket. PEGylation is currently used for the synthesis of stealth liposomes and to enhance the pharmacokinetic and biopharmaceutical properties of payloads. PEGylated dendron phospholipids can decrease the detachment of polyethylene glycol (PEG) from the liposomal surface owing to an increased hydrophobic anchoring effect on the phospholipid bilayer of liposomes and thus generating super stealth liposomes that are suitable for the systemic delivery of anticancer drugs. Herein, doxorubicin hydrochloride-loaded super stealth liposomes were studied for the treatment of breast cancer lung metastasis in an animal model.

Obstructive sleep apneas (OSAs) and central sleep apneas (CSAs) are the most common comorbidities in Heart Failure (HF) that are strongly associated with all-cause mortality. Several therapeutic approaches have been used to treat CSA and OSA, but none have been shown to significantly improve HF prognosis. Our study evaluated the effects of a 3-months treatment with sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) on polygraphic parameters in patients with sleep apnea (SA) and HF, across the spectrum of ejection fraction, not treated with continuous positive air pressure (CPAP).

Deformable nanovesicles have a crucial role in topical drug delivery through the skin, due to their capability to pass intact the stratum corneum and epidermis (SCE) and significantly increase the efficacy and accumulation of payloads in the deeper layers of the skin. Being aware of the need to develop more efficient therapies against cancer, herein we disclose an innovative approach for the design of selective antiproliferative agents. We have accomplished the conjugation of a coumarin fragment with lipophilic cations (triphenylphosphonium salts, guanidinium) for providing mitochondriotropic agents that simultaneously target also carbonic anhydrases IX and XII, involved in the development and progression of cancer. The new compounds prepared herein turned out to be strong inhibitors of carbonic anhydrases IX and XII of human origin (low-to-mid nM range), also endowed with high selectivity, exhibiting negligible activity towards cytosolic CA isoforms.

The bending angles (tilt and pan) of the robot tip are controlled through tendon-driven actuation; the transmission of the actuation forces to the tip is based on a Bowden-cable solution integrating some channels for optical fibers. The viability of the real-time measurement of the feedback control variables, through optoelectronic acquisition, is evaluated for automated bending of the flexible endoscope and trajectory tracking of the tip angles.

This study aims to provide a thorough characterization of Brij O2-stabilized gliadin nanoparticles to be used for the potential oral administration of various compounds. Different techniques were used in order to evaluate their physico-chemical features and then in vivo studies in rats were performed for the investigation of their biodistribution and gastrointestinal transit profiles. The results showed that the gliadin nanoparticles accumulated in the mucus layer of the bowel mucosa and evidenced their ability to move along the digestive systems of the animals.
