Street adolescents in low income setting exposed to hepatitis B and C, and disadvantaged by lifestyle: a Togolese cross-sectional study.

Background: In Togo, few data are available on viral hepatitis in street adolescents, a vulnerable population due to their lifestyle. The aim of this study was to describe the lifestyle of street adolescents (sexual practices and drug use), to estimate the prevalence of hepatitis B and C viruses, and to describe their HBV immunization profile in Togo.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Lomé (Togo) in July 2021.

Background: Our study aimed to describe the clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic and outcomes of patients with venous thromboembolic event (VTE) associated with cancer in the context of limited resources.

Materials And Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study over a period of six years from March 1, 2016 to March 31, 2022, in the cardiology department and the oncology unit of the Sylvanus Olympio Teaching Hospital of Lome. Our study examined medical records of patients who were at least 18 years old and had venous thromboembolic disease and cancer that was histologically confirmed.

Solitary neurofibroma of the right lateral wall of the oropharynx.

Solitary neurofibroma of the oropharynx is extremely rare. Imaging explorations may be necessary, but the diagnostic certainty is pathological. We report a case of benign tumour of the oropharynx in a 25-year-old woman who was seen for a consultation with dysphagia, a change in voice and dyspnea in the supine position.

Methods: cross-sectional study conducted from April 8 to June 7 2020 including radiologists practicing in French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries. Data were collected electronically via a google form.

Knowledge and attitudes of ultrasonography physicians regarding the biological effects of ultrasound in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa.

Objective: To assess the knowledge and practical attitudes of ultrasonography physicians regarding the biological effects of ultrasound in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa.

Materials And Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study carried out over a period of 03 months (from 1st August to 31st October 2019) which included doctors carrying out ultrasound examinations in French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries via an electronic survey form.

Results: The 137 ultrasonography physicians came from 13 different countries and included 58% radiologists, 15% gynecologists, 14% cardiologists and 13% general practitioners.

Objective: To assess the entrance surface dose (ESD) of pediatric chest X-ray examinations in order to establish a diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) in Togo.

Materials And Methods: The study was carried out in 13 radiology departments within the 6 health regions of the country. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study relating to the dosimetric assessment of the skin of children aged from 0 to 15 years during chest X-ray examinations.

Carotid Dissection and Isolated Paralysis of Ipsilateral Half Tongue: Clinical Cases.

Objective: We report two cases of carotid dissection revealed by isolated paralysis of the ipsilateral half tongue. . First patient, 52 years old, with no particular medical or surgical history, presented with isolated paralysis of the left half tongue preceded by two weeks of moderate-intensity cervicalgia and having been the subject to cervical manipulation.

Intrauterine Growth Retardation Complicated by Biermer's Disease: An Observation in Togo.

Objective: To report the first case in Togo of Biermer's disease associated with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) in a 39-year-old pregnant woman.

Observation: The patient with phenotype AA, born on 20/02/1978, GP (a spontaneous abortion at 3 months), was referred to hematology on 17 March 2017 for anemia at 26 weeks of amenorrhea (WA). She had received martial treatment with ferrous fumarate 66 milligrams daily.

Ocular and Mucocutaneous Sequelae among Survivors of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis in Togo.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess ocular and mucocutaneous sequelae among SJS/TEN survivors and identify risk factors of ocular sequelae.

Patients And Method: Late complications among SJS/TEN survivors were assessed using 2 methods: a retrospective assessment of medical records only or a retrospective assessment of medical records and physical examination of survivors who were contacted by phone.

Results: Between January 1995 and December 2017, 177 cases of SJS/TEN (138 cases of SJS, 29 cases of TEN, and 10 cases SJS/TEN overlap) were admitted into two university hospitals of Lomé (Togo).

Acne in Lomé, Togo: clinical aspects and quality of life of patients.

Background: Acne is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the pilosebaceous follicle that mainly affects adolescents and young adults. The aim of this study was to assess the quality of life (QOL) of patients with acne, and to determine the correlation between the QOL and the severity of acne, in Lomé (Togo).

Method: From July 2017 to February 2018, we conducted a study in three dermatology departments of Lomé.

Bilateral Divergent Shoulder's Fracture Dislocation Case in an Ischemic Stroke Patient.

Introduction: The literature review revealed that nowadays only about 15 cases of bilateral shoulder dislocation associated with the fracture of the upper end of the humerus have been published. The triad of lesional mechanism designated by the triple syndrome E composed of epilepsy, electrocution, and external trauma was the circumstances noted in which these fractures dislocations occur with migration of the two humeral heads either forward or backward.

Can atlas spina bifida-occulta be a cause of cervicogenic headaches?

Cervicogenic headaches are a nosologic entity recently recognized. In our common practice, we have noticed a relative frequency of the atlas spina-bifida occulta during the brain CT scan realized for headaches without cranio-encephalic causes or any other anomaly of the upper cervical region. The aim of this study was to determine a possible connection between cervicogenic headaches (CEH) and atlas spina-bifida occulta.

Clonal hypereosinophilic syndrome: two cases report in black men from sub-saharan Africa and literature reviews.

The first case is about a man of 60 years old suffering of hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) developed since 1998. He presented chronic cough, insomnia, and negative parasitical test. We observed hypereosinophilia and fibroblastic hyperplasia at the bone marrow biopsy.

Mini-ventilation for improved oxygenation during lung resection surgery.

Lung separation is frequently used during lung resection to facilitate surgery and hypoxaemia may occur because of increasing pulmonary shunt. In this study, we tested a method of mini-ventilation to the non-dependent lung and compared it to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) to improve oxygenation during lung resection. Thirty-eight adult patients participated in this randomised, single-blinded crossover study.
