Background: Camouflaging, the strategies that some autistic people use to hide their differences, has been hypothesized to trigger mental health ramifications. Camouflaging might reflect ubiquitous impression management experiences that are not unique to autistic people and similarly impact the mental health of non-autistic people.
Aims: We first examined whether individuals in the general population camouflage and manage impressions while experiencing mental health repercussions, and how gender and neurodivergent traits modified these associations.

Background And Objectives: History of nonfatal overdose (NFO) is common among people who use opioids, but little is known about opioid agonist treatment (OAT) outcomes for this high-risk subpopulation. The objective of this study was to investigate the relative effectiveness of buprenorphine/naloxone and methadone on retention and suppression of opioid use among individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and history of NFO.
Methods: Secondary analysis of a pan-Canadian pragmatic trial comparing flexible take-home buprenorphine/naloxone and supervised methadone for people with OUD and history of NFO.

Background: Although young adults and middle-aged adults have borne the brunt of the drug overdose crisis in Canada, older adults are also at an increased risk of harms. We examined trends in drug overdose deaths and opioid overdose deaths among adults 65 years of age and older.
Methods: Age-standardized rates of drug overdose deaths in Canada (2000-2022) and of opioid overdose deaths in Ontario (2003-2021) were computed.

Background: The complement component C4 gene has been identified as a strong marker for schizophrenia (SCZ) risk. The C4 gene has a complex genetic structure consisting of variable structural elements (C4A, C4B, C4L, and C4S) and compound structural forms (C4AL, C4BL, C4AS and C4BS). In addition, the variations in C4 structural forms may have a direct or indirect effect on the brain expression level of C4A and C4B proteins.

Background: Opioid use disorder (OUD) has arguably the highest mortality rate of mental health conditions; opiate-related deaths are identified as the number one cause of accidental deaths in Canada and the United States. Specialized care for OUD is often described as lacking, fractured, and with frequent periods of disengagement. Digital health strategies may support connection to evidence-based resources even during periods of disengagement.

Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2Ds are drug metabolizing enzymes found in brain and liver which metabolize numerous centrally acting drugs. Inhibition and induction of CYP2D-mediated metabolism in rodent brain alters brain drug and metabolite concentrations and resulting drug response. In female rats, brain CYP2D metabolism varies across the estrous cycle and with exogenous estrogen, changing brain drug concentrations and response.

The Pharmacogene Variation Consortium (PharmVar) provides nomenclature for the human CYP2A gene locus containing the highly polymorphic CYP2A6 gene. CYP2A6 plays a role in the metabolism of nicotine and various drugs. Thus, genetic variation can substantially contribute to the function of this enzyme and associated efficacy and safety.

The OurNotes movement aims to support patient collaboration and engagement in care through the implementation of pre-visit notes. By contributing to a pre-visit history or agenda, the patient voice is incorporated into the visit. While OurNotes has been successfully piloted in primary and acute care settings, its implementation in Canadian mental healthcare settings has been limited.

Amidst the current healthcare workforce crisis, nurses continue to experience burnout, with one contributor being the growing amount of required documentation and other electronic health record (EHR) tasks that must be completed. This study aims to identify ways in which nurses can be better supported through consideration for the burden that EHR systems may present due to increasing documentation requirements and areas of inefficient use. This study leverages nursing engagement to ensure the needs of nurses are identified and EHR efficiency is improved.

Only a small number of studies have assessed structural differences between the two hemispheres during childhood and adolescence. However, the existing findings lack consistency or are restricted to a particular brain region, a specific brain feature, or a relatively narrow age range. Here, we investigated associations between brain asymmetry and age as well as sex in one of the largest pediatric samples to date (n = 4265), aged 1-18 years, scanned at 69 sites participating in the ENIGMA (Enhancing NeuroImaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis) consortium.

Despite an increase in the varieties of cannabis products available for consumption, limited evidence is available about the patterns of cannabis consumption methods before and after legalization. To examine the changes in modes of cannabis use and their correlates among adults in Ontario, Canada both prior to and following cannabis legalization in 2018. Data were utilized from the 2017 to 2022 Centre for Addiction and Mental Health's (CAMH) Monitor study, a repeated cross-sectional survey of adults 18 years of age and older ( = 2,665; 56% male).

Objectives: We characterized trends in medical cannabis use; examined characteristics associated with medical cannabis use without medical authorization; and examined the association between recreational cannabis legalization and medical cannabis use in Ontario, Canada.
Methods: Data were from a repeated, population-based, cross-sectional survey of adults (N = 19,543; 2014-2019). Cannabis use was categorized as either medical cannabis use, recreational cannabis use or no cannabis use.

Fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) is a validated measure of resting-state spontaneous brain activity. Previous fALFF findings in autism and schizophrenia spectrum disorders (ASDs and SSDs) have been highly heterogeneous. We aimed to use fALFF in a large sample of typically developing control (TDC), ASD and SSD participants to explore group differences and relationships with inter-individual variability of fALFF maps and social cognition.
