Effect of Resection Distance from Pylorus on Weight Loss Outcomes in Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy.

Obes Surg

September 2019

Department of General Surgery, Private Camlica Erdem Hospital, Alemdağ Yanyolu Cad. No:36 Üsküdar, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: Despite the established efficacy and safety of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), controversy still exists on optimal operative technique, the resection distance from pylorus (DP) being among the most controversial issues. This study aimed to examine the effect of resection distance from pylorus on % excess weight loss (EWL) during postoperative period, in patients who underwent LSG for morbid obesity.

Methods: A total of 390 patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for morbid obesity were included in this retrospective study.

Background: Topiramate (TPM) decreases cytokine release and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Cytokine and endothelin-1 (ET-1) secretion and ROS formation play an important role in ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. We aimed to evaluate whether TPM prevents damage occurring in lung tissue during I/R.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACD). The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), which is the logarithmic transformation of the plasma triglyceride (TG) level to the high-density lipoprotein level (HDL) ratio, has been suggested to be a novel marker in the identification of atherosclerosis risk. Therefore, this study aims to determine if the AIP can act as an accurate marker for the detection of subclinical atherosclerosis.

Introduction: Meniscal cysts very often cause meniscal tears and especially when it is peripheral, some of the healthy parts of meniscus might be needlessly sacrificed. In particular conditions, extraarticular approaches might save some menisci. In the present study, we evaluated the conditions which required using the extraarticular approach in addition to the arthroscopic procedure, to maximally preserve the meniscus.
