Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of cordycepin, an adenosine analogue, on prevention of esophageal damage and stricture formation due to esophageal caustic burns in rat model comparing with prednisolone.

Methods: Caustic esophageal burn was introduced by 37.5% of NaOH to distal esophagus.

Background: In the literature, there have been scant studies that compare the effects of totally extraperitoneal (TEP) and Lichtenstein hernia (LH) repairs on men's sexual function and quality of life. Background: Despite the established efficacy and safety of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), controversy still exists on optimal operative technique, the resection distance from pylorus (DP) being among the most controversial issues. This study aimed to examine the effect of resection distance from pylorus on % excess weight loss (EWL) during postoperative period, in patients who underwent LSG for morbid obesity.

Methods: A total of 390 patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for morbid obesity were included in this retrospective study.

Background: Topiramate (TPM) decreases cytokine release and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Cytokine and endothelin-1 (ET-1) secretion and ROS formation play an important role in ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. We aimed to evaluate whether TPM prevents damage occurring in lung tissue during I/R.

Effect of statins on hearing function and subjective tinnitus in hyperlipidemic patients.

Introduction: It is known that hyperlipidemia reduces hearing functions. In this study, we aimed to study the effect of antihyperlipidemic drugs on hearing functions and tinnitus.

Methods: Eighty-four patients aged 18 to 84, who were diagnosed with hyperlipidemia and started treatment with the statin group (atorvastatin 20 mg and 40 mg, rosuvastatin 10 mg and 20 mg, and simvastatin 20 mg) of antihyperlipidemic drugs, were included in this study.

Evaluation of restless legs syndrome and sleep disorders in patients with psoriatic arthritis.

Objectives: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disease with a chronic course that is characterised by sleep disorders and sensorimotor impairment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and severity of RLS in psoriatic arthritis (PSA) patients and those with psoriasis (P).

Patients And Methods: The study included 50 patients with psoriasis (28 females, 22 males), 50 PSA patients (33 females, 17 males) and 50 healthy control subjects (34 females, 16 males), and all 3 groups were matched with respect to age, gender and body mass index (BMI).

Background: Oxidative stress may play an important role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) etiopathogenesis. The thiol group is a very strong antioxidant. In this study, we aimed to investigate the presence of oxidative stress in patients with RA by evaluating thiol/disulfide homeostasis.

Role of Laparoscopic Appendectomy Radix Ligation Techniques on the Formation of Inner Abdomen Abscess.

Objectives: Our aim was to study whether laparoscopic appendectomy radix ligation techniques were eutrophic in the development of intra-abdominal abscess.

Methods: Between September 2009 and April 2017, all emergency cases admitted to our surgery polyclinic were reviewed, and the results of the patients who underwent laparoscopic appendectomy were collected. Appendectomy radix ligation techniques were reviewed from surgical notes on discharge reports.

Atherogenic index of plasma: a useful marker for subclinical atherosclerosis in ankylosing spondylitis : AIP associate with cIMT in AS.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACD). The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), which is the logarithmic transformation of the plasma triglyceride (TG) level to the high-density lipoprotein level (HDL) ratio, has been suggested to be a novel marker in the identification of atherosclerosis risk. Therefore, this study aims to determine if the AIP can act as an accurate marker for the detection of subclinical atherosclerosis.

When should the external approach be resorted to in the arthroscopic treatment of perimeniscal cyst?

Introduction: Meniscal cysts very often cause meniscal tears and especially when it is peripheral, some of the healthy parts of meniscus might be needlessly sacrificed. In particular conditions, extraarticular approaches might save some menisci. In the present study, we evaluated the conditions which required using the extraarticular approach in addition to the arthroscopic procedure, to maximally preserve the meniscus.

A case of mediastinal fibrosis due to radiotherapy and 'downhill' esophageal varices: a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

'Downhill' varices are located in the proximal part of the esophagus. Their etiology differs from the distal types, with most of them usually being related to superior vena cava obstruction. Although bleeding due to 'downhill' varices is very rare, it can be life-threatening.

Background: Polypectomy with jumbo forceps (JF) and polypectomy with hot biopsy forceps (HBF) are still widely used techniques for removal of diminutive colorectal polyps (DCPs). JF may be more effective for the removal of DCPs because of their larger size.

Aim: To evaluate the histological quality and adequacy of DCPs resected using JF compared with HBF.

Objectives: Selective cannulation of the right coronary artery (RCA) in the anomalous aortic origin of the RCA is technically difficult and challenging. In this study, we tested the success of RCA cannulation with a reshaped left Judkins catheter in cases of difficult selective cannulation.

Study Design: The study population consisted of 837 consecutive patients (456 male, 381 female) that were admitted to our hospital with stable angina pectoris and acute coronary syndrome between October 1 and December 31, 2011.
