The feasibility of repurposing selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors as adjunctive antibacterial agents is an area of current investigation. We sought to evaluate if fluoxetine will achieve synergistic killing with relevant antibacterial drugs against skin and soft tissue pathogens and multidrug-resistant pathogens. : The MIC of fluoxetine was determined using broth microdilution for a diverse isolate collection of 21 organisms.

Oncolytic herpes simplex viruses (oHSV) preferentially replicate in cancer cells while inducing antitumor immunity, and thus, they are often referred to as in situ cancer vaccines. OHSV infection of tumors elicits diverse host immune responses comprising both innate and adaptive components. Although the innate and adaptive immune responses primarily target the tumor, they also contribute to antiviral immunity, limiting viral replication/oncolysis.

Purpose: We aimed to explore the metabolite products of 1,2-diacetylbenzene (DAB) and investigate their harmful effects, physicochemical properties, and biological activities, along with those of DAB itself.
Methods: Key approaches included MetaTox, PASS online, ADMESWISS, ADMETlab 2.0, molecular docking, and molecular dynamic simulation to identify metabolites, toxic effects, Lipinski's rule criteria, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion properties, interactions with cytochrome (CYP) 450 isoforms, and the stability of the DAB-cytochrome complex.

We have developed a bladder cancer-on-a-chip model which supports the 3D growth of cells and can be used to assess and quantify bladder cancer cell invasiveness in a physiologically appropriate environment. Three bladder cancer cell lines (T24, J82, and RT4) were resuspended in 50% Matrigel and grown within a multi-channel organ-on-a-chip system. The ability of live cells to invade across into an adjacent 50% Matrigel-only channel was assessed over a 2-day period.

Diabetes mellitus remains a major global health issue, and great attention is directed at natural therapeutics. This systematic review aimed to assess the potential of flavonoids as antidiabetic agents by investigating their inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase and α-amylase, two key enzymes involved in starch digestion. Six scientific databases (PubMed, Virtual Health Library, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and WHO Global Index Medicus) were searched until August 21, 2022, for in vitro studies reporting IC values of purified flavonoids on α-amylase and α-glucosidase, along with corresponding data for acarbose as a positive control.

Introduction: Efforts to ensure success of pharmacy students in passing pharmacy standardized exams require substantial investments. Engaging students effectively can be a challenge when there are no consequences for non-participation or poor performance. This study examined how engagement reinforcement, including high-stake exam requirements, instructional strategies, and incentives, impacted student performance on the Pharmacy Curriculum Outcomes Assessment (PCOA).

Objectives: Current American Thoracic Society/Infectious Disease Society of America (ATS/IDSA) community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) guidelines expand the CAP definition to include infections occurring in patients with recent health care exposure. The guidelines now recommend that hospital systems determine their own local prevalence and predictors of and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) among patients satisfying this new broader CAP definition. We sought to carry out these recommendations in our system, focusing on the emergency department, where CAP diagnosis and initial empiric antibiotic selection usually ooccur.

Objectives: Cultural, clinical, social, and legally competent patient care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) patients is currently scarcely incorporated in pharmacy curricula. Furthermore, clinical, legal, and socio-cultural training that prepares pharmacists on the job to provide LGBTQIA+ competent patient care is scant. Here, our objectives were to (1) systematically review the literature using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines to identify trends in community pharmacists' professional identity development related to the provision of competent LGBTQIA+ patient care, and (2) create a reference guide for community pharmacists for self-directed learning.

Objective: The objective of this review was to summarize evidence relating to the impact of experiential education on the development of professional identity formation (PIF) and determine areas for future research and development to improve the integration of a professional identity within the student's unique personal identity within experiential education programs.
Methods: A systematic scoping review was conducted using the systematic evidence-based approach following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Articles published between 2012 and 2022 related to the development of PIF in relation to the experiential experience were researched using PubMed, MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Eric, and JSTOR (search engines) to find relevant articles.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a group of pulmonary vascular disorders in which mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) becomes abnormally high because of various pathological conditions, including remodeling of the pulmonary arteries, lung and heart disorders, or congenital conditions. Various animal models, including mouse and rat models, have been used to recapitulate elevated mPAP observed in PH patients. However, the measurement and recording of mPAP and mean systemic arterial pressure (mSAP) in small animals require microsurgical procedures and a sophisticated data acquisition system.

Since pregnant women were excluded from clinical trials for vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), there is limited data on the safety and efficacy of vaccines in this population. This systematic review explored the safety and efficacy of mRNA vaccines in pregnant women. A literature search was performed using Ovid databases through November 2021 for all studies evaluated efficacy and safety of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in pregnant women.

Organizational vitality encompasses organizational mission and identity, organizational purpose and values, and employee engagement, cohesiveness, anxiety, and information sharing. Using the organizational vitality framework consisting of the following five pillars: (1) human, (2) knowledge, (3) intellectual, (4) financial capital, and (5) market value, we propose a reflection guide and specific calls to action for academic leaders including deans, department chairs, assistant/associate deans, and others within pharmacy and healthcare education systems. Our overall aim is to provide a blueprint for academic leaders to assess and enhance the organizational health, vitality, resiliency, and sustainability of their pharmacy educational programs using an established organizational vitality framework.

Given the growing prevalence and accelerating cost of diabetes, there is an urgent need to expand strategies in health care that improve access and outcomes and reduce the financial and human burden of the disease. Diabetes care and education specialists (DCESs) are well positioned to assist health care systems with delivery models that enhance diabetes care through evidence-based standards and quality improvement strategies. DCESs have increased opportunities to apply their competencies in primary, specialty, hospital, and acute care settings; accountable care organizations; community settings; research; and academia.
